You can read transcripts for some podcast episodes in Spotify’s mobile app: start the episode, open the full Now Playing screen, then look for Transcript or Read Along. Spotify also says transcripts may appear on mobile episode pages, but not every show or episode has one. Spotify’s interface can change, so the label and placement may vary.
View a podcast transcript in the Spotify mobile app
Spotify documents transcript access in the mobile app on both the Now Playing screen and podcast episode pages. The steps below apply to iPhone and Android; the exact label and layout can differ by app version.
- Open Spotify and start playing the podcast episode.
- Tap the mini-player or episode artwork to open the full Now Playing screen.
- Scroll down past the artwork and episode information.
- Tap Transcript or Read Along, if either appears.
The transcript may scroll or highlight text in time with playback. Spotify’s current guidance confirms where listeners can find transcripts, but does not promise the same presentation or controls for every episode. Spotify’s transcript guidance
Open a transcript from an episode page
In the mobile app, open the podcast’s episode page and look for transcript or read-along content on that page. Spotify documents episode pages as another place transcripts can appear. Its public instructions do not specify one permanent button name or position, so check below the episode details as well as the Now Playing screen.

Does Spotify show transcripts on desktop or the web player?
Spotify’s official listener guidance describes transcripts in the mobile app; it does not establish guaranteed transcript access in the desktop app or web player. Some users have reported seeing Read Along in the desktop Now Playing panel, but that is community guidance and may reflect a limited rollout or a different interface. Spotify Community discussion

Why a transcript may be missing
Spotify says only some shows have auto-generated transcripts, and transcripts are not available to all creators. A missing option may therefore be normal for that episode, rather than a problem with your subscription or phone. Spotify’s transcript guidance

Check these possibilities in order:
- Playback has not started: Start the episode, then open the full Now Playing screen. Community guidance reports the read-along option may appear only once playback is underway.
- You are still in the mini-player: Open the full Now Playing view and scroll below the artwork and episode information.
- The label or position is different: Look for either Transcript or Read Along. Placement can change between app versions. Spotify Community placement discussion
- The episode has no transcript: Try another episode from the same show. If only some episodes have transcripts, availability is likely episode-specific.
- Your app may be out of date: Update Spotify from your device’s app store, then close and reopen the app.
- Availability may differ for your account, device, or market: If transcripts are absent across episodes, the feature may not be available in your current setup or rollout.
- The player presentation may differ: Video podcast episodes can have a different layout, so check the episode page as well as Now Playing.
Reinstalling Spotify is not a transcript-specific fix and may remove offline downloads. Try the checks above first.

Does Spotify Premium include podcast transcripts?
Spotify does not document Premium as a requirement for podcast transcripts. Its transcript guidance does not list a paid plan prerequisite, and its general podcast help treats listening access separately from transcript availability. Do not subscribe to Premium solely to try to unlock a transcript; whether the particular episode has transcript data is the more relevant question. Spotify’s podcasts and shows help page

A transcript is written text representing an episode’s spoken content. Spotify may provide auto-generated transcripts, and some creators can manage transcript data for eligible shows. Transcripts can help listeners who are deaf or hard of hearing, make long episodes easier to scan, and help locate a spoken passage without scrubbing through the whole recording.

Auto-generated text is not guaranteed to be verbatim. Names, acronyms, technical terms, punctuation, speaker attribution, accents, background noise, overlapping speech, music, and inserted advertisements can all lead to errors. Treat the transcript as a reading and navigation aid, not as a definitive legal or scholarly record.

Can podcasters add or manage transcripts?
Eligible creators can manage transcripts through Spotify for Creators on the web, not in the Spotify for Creators mobile app. Spotify says transcript access is not available to all creators. Spotify for Creators
- Sign in to Spotify for Creators.
- Open Episodes and select an episode.
- Choose Details.
- Find Transcript, then select View or Edit, depending on the task.
Creators can turn transcripts on or off for an individual episode or for an entire show. Uploaded transcript files must be in VTT or SRT format, no larger than 5 MB, and include timestamps for synchronization. Depending on the podcast host, synchronization may not be possible. Enabling auto-generated transcripts can replace an uploaded transcript, so creators should check which version will be used before switching that setting. Spotify’s transcript guidance

Alternatives when Spotify has no transcript
- Check the publisher’s site or show notes: The podcast publisher may post an edited transcript on its website, episode page, newsletter, or member portal. This is often the best option for accuracy and attribution.
- Look for an official video version: A YouTube or other video-platform version may include captions. Automatically generated captions are a fallback, not necessarily an edited transcript.
- Use transcription software only with appropriate rights: A third-party service or local speech-to-text tool may help with audio you own or are authorized to process. Do not bypass DRM or other access controls, assume Spotify downloads are ordinary editable audio files, or upload copyrighted audio without permission.
Transcript, captions, and show notes are different
- Transcript: Written representation of spoken episode content.
- Captions: Text associated with video playback, often including speech and other audio cues.
- Show notes: Publisher-supplied summary, links, and episode details; they are not necessarily a word-for-word record.
