Zygisk is Magisk’s framework for running compatible module code inside Android app processes. To use it, open Magisk, go to Settings, enable Zygisk, reboot, then install a compatible module from Modules → Install from storage. Zygisk does not root a phone by itself or automatically hide root.
These steps apply to Magisk users. Back up important data and make sure you have a recovery route before installing modules: a faulty module can cause app crashes or prevent Android from booting.
Before you enable Zygisk
You need a compatible Android device with Magisk already installed and working. Zygisk is a Magisk feature, not a separate rooting method: enabling it will not root a phone that does not already have Magisk root.

- Download Magisk and modules from their developers’ official project or release pages. Magisk identifies its GitHub repository as its official source: Magisk on GitHub.
- Back up important data and note your Android version, device model, ROM, and processor architecture.
- Keep a recovery option available. Depending on your device, that could mean ADB with USB debugging already enabled, the correct stock
bootorinit_bootimage, and access to the appropriate recovery or manufacturer flashing method. - Check that each module supports your Android version, device architecture, and Magisk setup. Installing successfully does not prove that a module is compatible.
Magisk’s interface and menu labels can change between releases, so follow the labels in your installed app rather than relying on a screenshot from an older version. Check the official releases page for current downloads and release details.

What Zygisk does—and what it does not do
Android starts apps by forking processes from a system process called Zygote. Zygisk lets compatible modules run code as those app processes are prepared. The code runs in the resulting app or system-server process; Zygisk is not simply a separate app running in the background. Magisk’s Zygisk guide and API documentation describe the mechanism.
- Magisk provides systemless root and a module framework.
- Zygisk is Magisk’s framework for compatible code injection into app processes.
- A Zygisk module uses that framework to change or extend behavior.
- LSPosed is a framework that can use Zygisk (or, in some setups, Riru) to support separate hooking modules. It is one use for Zygisk, not a prerequisite.
- Shamiko is a Zygisk-dependent module intended to reduce root-related visibility to selected apps. It is not a replacement for Zygisk and does not guarantee that an app will accept the device.
- DenyList lets you select processes for which Magisk should revert or withhold certain changes. It is not a guarantee of complete root concealment.
Magisk introduced Zygisk in v24 and removed MagiskHide in that release; old MagiskHide instructions are not current guidance. See the Magisk changelog and FAQ.
How to enable Zygisk in Magisk
- Open the Magisk app.
- Tap Settings.
- Find the Magisk feature settings and turn on Zygisk.
- Reboot the phone. Enabling the switch alone is not enough; the change needs a reboot.
- Open Magisk again. Confirm Zygisk remains enabled and that the app does not show an installation error.
Do not mistake the Zygisk switch for DenyList. They are separate settings with different purposes. You can use Zygisk without LSPosed, Shamiko, or any other third-party module.
How to install a Zygisk module
- Find the module’s official developer release or repository and read its requirements, release notes, and installation instructions. Avoid unofficial re-uploads.
- Download the module ZIP that matches your setup. Check any stated Android, architecture, Magisk, or Zygisk API requirements.
- In Magisk, open Modules, choose Install from storage, and select the ZIP.
- Wait for the installation log to finish. If it reports an error, resolve that before rebooting.
- Reboot when prompted, then open the module’s companion app or configuration interface if it has one.
- Apply only the settings and app scope you need. Reboot or force-stop affected apps if the module’s instructions require it.
A module ZIP and a regular Android APK are not interchangeable. Some modules install their Zygisk component through Magisk and also offer an APK for configuration; installing the APK alone may not install the module. Follow the module author’s directions.
Install one module at a time, especially when testing a new setup. That makes conflicts easier to identify and limits the damage if a module is incompatible.

Using LSPosed with Zygisk
Zygisk is the loading mechanism; LSPosed is a framework; LSPosed modules provide the individual modifications. A typical setup is:
- Enable Zygisk in Magisk and reboot.
- Download the correct LSPosed Zygisk release from the official LSPosed project, following its usage guide.
- Install the LSPosed module ZIP through Magisk and reboot.
- Open LSPosed from its notification, shortcut, or available interface and confirm the framework is active.
- Install a compatible LSPosed module, then open LSPosed’s Modules page, enable that module, and select only the apps it needs to affect.
- Force-stop the affected app or reboot if the module requires it.
Do not enable a module for every app by default. A smaller scope reduces the chance of crashes, compatibility problems, and unnecessary injection into apps that do not need the modification.
Zygisk, DenyList, root hiding, and Play Integrity
Enabling Zygisk does not hide root. DenyList can target selected app processes and revert or withhold some Magisk-related changes for them. It cannot guarantee complete concealment, Play Integrity success, or compatibility with banking, payment, streaming, gaming, or enterprise apps. An app may also detect an unlocked bootloader, altered partitions or properties, hooks, or other signals.
Shamiko requires Zygisk and uses Magisk’s DenyList as configuration input. Its documented setup may involve adding target processes to DenyList while leaving DenyList enforcement off; that behavior is specific to Shamiko’s instructions and can change by version. Consult the Shamiko documentation for the version you install. Do not treat that configuration as a universal Magisk rule, and do not assume Shamiko will make every app work.
For advanced troubleshooting, Magisk documents DenyList command-line operations such as:

Recommended Free Tools
A checker reporting a successful integrity result does not mean every app will accept the device. Detection rules and app policies are controlled by the app developers and can change. For a critical banking or payment app, an unmodified device with a locked bootloader may be the dependable option. Avoid stacking concealment modules: overlap can increase instability without guaranteeing acceptance.
How to check whether Zygisk and a module are working
- After reboot, confirm the Zygisk setting remains enabled in Magisk.
- Check that the module appears installed in Magisk and, if applicable, that its companion interface reports it active or loaded.
- Test the specific function the module is meant to provide. A successful install alone is not proof that its code loaded or works correctly.
- If something fails, check the module’s own logs and Magisk logs. Advanced users can inspect Android logcat for relevant loading errors.
- Watch for new app crashes, abnormal battery use, or boot instability. Stop using the module if it causes problems.
No generic “Zygisk checker” can prove that every module is compatible or that a particular app will tolerate a modified environment.
Troubleshooting common problems
Zygisk is enabled, but the module is inactive
- Confirm Magisk root is working and Zygisk stayed enabled after a reboot.
- Make sure you installed the module ZIP through Magisk, rather than installing only a companion APK.
- Check the module’s stated Android, architecture, Magisk, and API requirements.
- Look for unmet dependencies, conflicts with another module, or a required second reboot.
- Open the module’s companion app if one is required, and check its permissions and logs.
- Confirm you used the developer’s current, official release.
Apps crash after enabling Zygisk
Disable the newest module first. Test Zygisk with no third-party Zygisk modules, then add modules one at a time. If you use LSPosed, narrow its scope to the app that needs it. Remove overlapping modules that alter the same app or framework. Clear app data only as a last resort and only after backing up relevant data; this can erase local settings or sign-in information.
An app still rejects the device
DenyList, Shamiko, or a successful integrity check cannot guarantee an app will run. The app may use several signals, including boot state, hardware-backed attestation, root traces, hooks, or its own checks. Avoid repeated changes that make the setup harder to diagnose, and use a stock, locked device when access to a critical service depends on it.

Recovering from a module bootloop
A module-caused bootloop does not necessarily mean the phone is permanently bricked. The recovery route depends on the device and what access you prepared in advance. Magisk’s FAQ documents module-removal and Safe Mode options.
If ADB was enabled before the failure
Connect the phone to a computer and check whether ADB can see it:
adb devices
If the device is listed and the shell is available, follow the current Magisk FAQ’s module-removal instructions. Magisk documents the following command for removing installed modules:
adb shell magisk --remove-modules
Do not assume this will work if ADB debugging was not enabled, the device cannot complete boot, or the shell is unavailable. Follow the command format and recovery behavior documented for your Magisk version.

If your device supports Safe Mode
Boot Android into Safe Mode using the key combination for your specific manufacturer and model. Magisk can detect Safe Mode and disable modules; once Android starts, reboot normally and remove or disable the offending module in Magisk. There is no universal Safe Mode key combination, so consult your manufacturer’s instructions.

If ADB and Safe Mode do not work
Use the recovery method for your device, such as restoring the correct stock boot or init_boot image or using the manufacturer’s flashing procedure. Match the image and firmware to the exact model, region, and build. Do not flash a boot image from a different Android release or device variant. Avoid wiping user data unless it is necessary.
Magisk, KernelSU, APatch, and standalone Zygisk implementations
Magisk users should normally use Magisk’s built-in Zygisk. KernelSU or APatch users may need a separate implementation if their chosen module supports it. Projects such as ReZygisk have their own compatibility rules; its documentation tells Magisk users to disable built-in Zygisk before installing ReZygisk. See the ReZygisk information and the specific project’s official repository. Do not run two Zygisk providers together unless their maintainers explicitly support that combination.
- Magisk: Start with built-in Zygisk.
- KernelSU or APatch: Use the implementation explicitly recommended by the root manager, module author, and implementation project.
- Unclear or mixed setup: Identify the active root manager and Zygisk provider before installing anything.
Keep the setup maintainable
- Use modules from official developer sources and read release notes before updating.
- Install one module at a time and keep a list of what you have installed.
- Limit each module to the processes it needs.
- Remove modules that are abandoned or not declared compatible with your Android version.
- Keep a recovery path and the exact stock firmware files for your device.
- Treat modules as powerful software: injected code can run in sensitive app processes, so do not grant root access or install modules from sources you do not trust.
Version note: Magisk releases and module compatibility change over time. Check the live Magisk releases page and each module’s official documentation before following version-specific steps.

Does Zygisk root my phone?
No. Zygisk is a feature of Magisk. Magisk must already be installed and providing root access.
Do I need LSPosed to use Zygisk?
No. LSPosed is one framework that can use Zygisk; other compatible modules can use it directly, and Zygisk can be enabled without installing LSPosed.
Can Zygisk and Zygisk Next or ReZygisk run together?
Do not assume they can. Magisk users normally use built-in Zygisk; standalone implementations have their own rules, and ReZygisk tells Magisk users to disable built-in Zygisk first.
Does turning off Zygisk uninstall my modules?
Turning off the Zygisk setting does not itself uninstall modules, but Zygisk-dependent modules may stop working. Follow each module’s removal or disable instructions.
What happens to Zygisk after an Android update?
Compatibility can change after updates to Android, Magisk, or a module. Check the release notes and compatibility statements for your exact versions before updating or reinstalling modules.
