Yes—but only with compatible hardware. Android 16 can share audio through Auracast and Bluetooth LE Audio, allowing multiple compatible earbuds, headphones, or hearing aids to listen to one stream. Android 16 alone is not enough: Google’s native Pixel feature is documented for Pixel 8 and later, and every receiving accessory must support Bluetooth LE Audio. For broadcast reception, it must also support Auracast-related broadcast profiles.
Ordinary Bluetooth earbuds that support only Classic Audio will not work with Pixel’s Audio sharing controls.
What Auracast and Audio sharing mean
Traditional Bluetooth audio is usually a point-to-point connection between one phone and one accessory. Newer Bluetooth LE Audio supports more efficient audio connections, including unicast connections and multi-stream features. Android’s LE Audio platform documentation describes the underlying capabilities.
Auracast is the broadcast part of LE Audio. One transmitter publishes an audio stream that multiple compatible receivers can join. A phone, television, airport, theater, classroom, or other venue can act as the transmitter.

On compatible Pixel phones, Google presents private phone broadcasting as Audio sharing or Share audio. That feature uses related Auracast technology but should not be confused with a public venue broadcast: the menus and joining process can differ.
Bluetooth 5.x branding is not proof of Auracast support. The Bluetooth SIG says Auracast depends on capabilities introduced with Bluetooth Core Specification 5.2 and the Public Broadcast Profile. The exact LE Audio and broadcast implementation still depends on the phone, accessory, firmware, and software.

What you need
- A compatible phone: Google documents native Pixel Audio sharing on Pixel 8 and later. Other Android 16 phones may support Auracast, but Android 16 does not guarantee that every manufacturer exposes the feature.
- Android 16 or a current supported software build: Update the phone before troubleshooting.
- LE Audio accessories: Every listener’s earbuds, headphones, or hearing aids must support Bluetooth LE Audio.
- Auracast reception: Required when joining a broadcast rather than using a manufacturer-specific sharing implementation.
- Updated accessory firmware: Some products add or expose Auracast features only after an update.
- Bluetooth enabled: The phone and receiving accessories must be nearby during setup.
Compatibility is fragmented. A phone can support LE Audio without exposing native Auracast controls, while an accessory can support Auracast through its own app but not through Android’s system interface.
How to share audio from a Pixel phone
Use these steps on a Pixel 8 or newer with a compatible LE Audio accessory:
- Pair the first compatible headset, earbuds, or hearing aids with the phone.
- Play audio and confirm that it is audible through that accessory.
- Swipe down from the home screen to open Quick Settings.
- Tap Bluetooth.
- Tap Share audio in the Bluetooth panel. The control may be unavailable until a compatible LE Audio accessory is connected.
- Select another already-paired LE Audio accessory, or tap Pair new device to add one.
- Alternatively, display the QR code so another compatible Android device or accessory can join.
- Confirm the stream, then open the audio-sharing controls to manage the connected listeners.
- Use Play a test sound to confirm that each listener can hear the broadcast.
Google’s documented settings path is Settings > Connected devices > Connection preferences > Audio sharing. You can also open Quick Settings, tap or hold Bluetooth, and select the audio-sharing option. Labels can vary slightly by software build or language.
Google documents separate volume controls for connected LE Audio headphones. You can also choose which connected headphones handle Call audio. That setting does not mean every connected listener automatically receives a complete two-way phone-call experience.

How to add a second or additional listener
After the first LE Audio accessory is connected, the Pixel sharing panel can offer several ways to add listeners:
- Already paired: Select another compatible accessory from the list.
- New accessory: Choose Pair new device, put the second headset or hearing aid into pairing mode, and complete pairing.
- QR-code invitation: Display the broadcast QR code for another compatible Android device or supported accessory to use.
Google documents support for “two or more” listeners but does not publish one universal maximum in its Pixel help page. Do not assume that every phone can support an unlimited number of receivers; the practical limit can depend on the phone, firmware, stream settings, and accessories.
How another Android user joins with a QR code
The joining device is not simply pairing another set of ordinary Bluetooth headphones. It normally acts as an Auracast assistant while the listener’s LE Audio accessory plays the audio.

- Connect the joining Android device to compatible LE Audio earbuds, headphones, or hearing aids.
- Open the device’s Camera app.
- Scan the host phone’s QR code.
- When the playlist or media control appears, tap it.
- Tap Listen to join the broadcast.
The receiving accessory should be connected before scanning. If the QR code opens as ordinary text or no Listen option appears, the phone may not recognize the broadcast invitation or the attached accessory may lack Auracast reception.
How to find a public Auracast broadcast
Public Auracast is designed for broadcasts from places such as airports, theaters, classrooms, televisions, and other venues. A venue may publish a stream for anyone nearby, protect it with an invitation, or provide a QR code.
The general process is to connect LE Audio headphones or hearing aids, open the phone’s broadcast-discovery control, scan for nearby streams or scan a venue QR code, select the desired broadcast, and tap Listen or the equivalent join control.

Public-broadcast discovery is not necessarily located in the same menu as Pixel private Audio sharing. Model, One UI version, accessory, firmware, and region can change the available controls.
How to start or join Auracast on Samsung
Google’s Android Help documentation gives these Samsung-specific paths for compatible devices.
Find a broadcast
- Open Quick Settings.
- Tap Bluetooth.
- Tap the gear icon beside the connected LE Audio accessory.
- Tap Find a broadcast.
- Select the broadcast you want to hear.
Start a broadcast
- Open Quick Settings.
- Tap Bluetooth, then Details.
- Tap the three-dot More menu.
- Tap Broadcast sound using Auracast.
These labels are documented for compatible Samsung hardware, but not every Galaxy phone or Galaxy Buds model necessarily exposes the same features. Check the exact phone, One UI version, accessory, and firmware combination.

Compatible headphones, earbuds, and hearing aids
Look for explicit statements that the exact product supports:
- Bluetooth LE Audio
- Auracast receive, if you want to join broadcasts
- The required firmware version
- Your phone brand and model
- Any required companion app or assistant
Potential examples reported in current compatibility coverage include Google Pixel Buds Pro 2, Samsung Galaxy Buds2 Pro, and Galaxy Buds3 Pro. Treat these as product families to verify—not automatic guarantees for every hardware revision, firmware version, or phone combination. Secondary compatibility coverage also notes that implementation can vary.
For hearing aids, verify the exact family and firmware with the manufacturer or hearing-care provider. Bluetooth streaming from a phone does not automatically mean that a hearing aid can receive Auracast. Some manufacturers provide their own Auracast assistant app when native phone controls are unavailable. For example, Oticon documents its Auracast sharing process.
Why Auracast may not work

If the control remains unavailable, confirm the exact phone model, install Android and accessory updates, disconnect and reconnect the accessory, remove and re-pair it, and test with a different accessory known to support LE Audio. Google specifically says the Pixel Share audio control appears only when compatible LE Audio headphones are connected.

Important limitations
Battery, range, and reliability
Broadcasting to multiple receivers can use more phone power than playing to one accessory, but Google does not publish a universal battery-runtime figure. Range depends on distance, obstructions, interference, phone position, and accessory design. Keep the phone reasonably close to listeners and do not assume reliable operation through walls or across a large venue.
Latency and sound quality
LE Audio commonly uses the LC3 codec, but the codec settings, bitrate, buffering, and latency depend on the specific devices and stream. Auracast does not guarantee identical delay or perfect lip-sync across different brands.
Calls
Audio sharing is primarily documented for shared media. Pixel settings include a separate Call audio choice, but that is not evidence that every connected listener receives both sides of every call.
Privacy
A private broadcast should be treated as an invitation-based feature, not an absolute security boundary. Depending on the implementation, anyone who obtains the relevant broadcast information or password may be able to join. Do not distribute a private QR code or broadcast credentials publicly.
Auracast versus other ways to share audio

If the group is small and seated near the source, a USB-C audio adapter with a wired splitter may be simpler and more predictable than replacing otherwise-good headphones.
What to verify before buying hardware
- Check the exact phone model, not merely whether it runs Android 16.
- Confirm native LE Audio and Auracast support in the manufacturer’s documentation.
- Check whether the feature is available on the US software build.
- Look for a documented Audio sharing, Share audio, or Auracast menu.
- Confirm the exact accessory supports LE Audio and Auracast receive—not just Bluetooth 5.2, 5.3, or 5.4.
- Check whether both earbuds support the required mode, rather than assuming the product family or charging case does.
- Install required firmware and companion apps before judging compatibility.
- Prefer a manufacturer compatibility table for your specific phone and accessory.

Can any Bluetooth earbuds use Auracast?
No. Earbuds must support Bluetooth LE Audio and, for a broadcast, Auracast reception. Classic Bluetooth-only earbuds are not eligible.

Can I share phone calls?
Call routing is handled separately. Pixel provides a Call audio choice, but it does not establish that every connected listener will hear a complete two-way call.
Can I join an airport or television Auracast broadcast?
Yes, if the venue or television publishes an Auracast stream and your phone and LE Audio accessory support broadcast discovery and reception.
Do I need a QR code?
No. QR codes are one joining method. Compatible devices may also discover broadcasts nearby or pair through the sharing controls.
Does the phone need internet?
Auracast is a local Bluetooth broadcast technology, so internet access is not inherently what carries the audio. Specific discovery, companion-app, or account features may have separate requirements.
Does the other person need an Android phone?
Not always. A compatible LE Audio receiver may join directly, while a second Android phone can act as an Auracast assistant in the QR-code workflow.
Can hearing aids receive Auracast?
Some do, but verify the exact hearing-aid family, firmware, phone support, and any required manufacturer app with the provider or manufacturer.
Why does my accessory say LE Audio but not appear?
LE Audio support alone may not include Auracast reception, or the feature may require updated firmware, a companion app, or a specific phone implementation.
