On Windows or Linux, press Ctrl+P. On a Mac, press Command+P. In the print preview, choose Save as PDF, Save to PDF, or the available PDF destination, then save the file. The label and final dialog vary by browser and operating system.
This is the standard print-to-PDF workflow documented for Chrome, Firefox and Edge. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau summarizes it plainly: “Your web browser can likely ‘print’ the page to a PDF.”

How to save any webpage as a PDF
- Open the page. Wait for the text, images and other important content to finish loading.
- Open the print workflow. Press Ctrl+P on Windows or Linux, or Command+P on macOS. You can also open the browser menu and choose Print if your keyboard does not have the expected modifier key.
- Pick a PDF destination. Chrome presents a destination and settings area. Firefox explicitly lists Save to PDF. Windows may show Microsoft Print to PDF or Save as PDF. On a Mac, the system print dialog places Save as PDF in the PDF menu.
- Check the preview. Look for clipped columns, missing images, unwanted navigation, blank pages or a layout that differs from the screen.
- Set the output options. Choose a page range, portrait or landscape orientation, paper size, scale and margins as necessary. Decide whether headers, footers and background graphics should be included.
- Save the file. Select Save, Print or the equivalent action, then choose a filename and folder when prompted.
The exact controls depend on the browser and operating system. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s instructions describe choosing a location on both Windows and Mac and note that older Windows installations might not include Microsoft Print to PDF. Chrome’s own Save as PDF destination can serve as a fallback when it is available.

Browser-specific details
Chrome: Ctrl+P or Command+P
Chrome’s print window asks you to select a destination and then exposes the relevant settings. On Windows and Linux, press Ctrl+P; on macOS, press Command+P. If you do not see a PDF destination immediately, open the destination selector and choose the browser’s Save as PDF option or an installed system PDF printer. See Chrome’s print instructions for the current labels and workflow.
Firefox: choose Save to PDF, not Save Page As
Firefox’s print shortcut is Ctrl+P on Windows and Linux and Command+P on Mac. In the Destination dropdown, select Save to PDF. Mozilla documents controls for orientation, page selection, color, paper size, scale, pages per sheet, margins, headers and footers, and backgrounds; a Simplified format option may appear for some pages.
Do not confuse this with Firefox’s Save Page As command. Mozilla’s shortcut table assigns Ctrl+S or Command+S to Save Page As, which saves the webpage and its resources in a web format, not necessarily as a PDF. Use Print and Save to PDF when the required result is a PDF. The relevant references are Firefox keyboard shortcuts and Firefox web-page printing.

- Things to Note 1: The HOME and END keys are now on the number pad—make sure the number pad is unlocked to use them. Press FN + M to switch to Mac mode so the Alt key works as Command for shortcuts (Command+C, Command+V, etc.)
Edge: use More settings or print a selection
Edge uses Ctrl+P on Windows and Command+P on Mac. Its print panel includes page range, margins, scale, headers and footers, and background graphics. If a page contains a lot of surrounding navigation, Immersive Reader may reduce the clutter before printing, although it is not available on every website. Edge can also print selected content: highlight the part you need, open Print, and choose the option to print the selection when it appears. Microsoft’s current controls are listed in Print in Microsoft Edge.
Make the PDF readable before saving
Use the preview as a quality check
A PDF is generated from the print representation of the page, not necessarily from the pixels you see in the browser. A responsive site may reflow a wide table, move a sidebar, or omit elements that are screen-only. Check every page in the preview before saving.
Fix clipping and awkward page breaks
- Switch between portrait and landscape for wide tables or dashboards.
- Reduce scale slightly when a right-hand column is cut off.
- Increase margins if text is too close to the edge.
- Use a page range to exclude cover pages, navigation or unrelated sections.
- Turn on background graphics when the design relies on color or background imagery; this can make a printed copy use more ink or toner.
Handle cluttered pages
Firefox may offer Simplified format, and Edge may offer Immersive Reader, but both are site- and browser-dependent. If neither is available, select only the relevant content where the browser supports selection printing, or adjust the page’s own reader view before opening Print.

Troubleshooting common failures
No Save as PDF option appears
Open the destination list rather than accepting the default physical printer. On Windows, look for Microsoft Print to PDF or Save as PDF. If the system printer is missing, Chrome’s built-in Save as PDF destination may still work. On a Mac, open the PDF menu in the system print dialog and choose Save as PDF.
The preview is blank or missing images
Return to the webpage and wait for lazy-loaded content to appear, then reopen Print. Some pages load content only after scrolling or interaction. A print preview cannot guarantee that dynamic, interactive or paywalled content will reproduce completely.
Text or columns are cut off
Try landscape orientation, a smaller scale, narrower margins or a different paper size. Use the preview after each change; the browser may insert different page breaks as the scale changes.

Headers, URLs or page numbers are unwanted
Open the expanded print settings and turn headers and footers off if that option is offered. Settings differ by browser, so confirm the change in the preview rather than assuming it applies globally.
The result looks different from the screen
That is normal for print CSS. Firefox notes that pages can be designed to appear differently on paper than on screen. Try Simplified format in Firefox or Immersive Reader in Edge when available, then inspect the revised preview.
Ctrl+S created a webpage folder instead
That shortcut is Save Page As in Firefox, not its print-to-PDF command. Press Ctrl+P on Windows or Command+P on Mac and select the PDF destination.
