Microsoft Edge on a Windows PC or Mac can let you attach a file from your Android phone or iPhone directly to a website open on the computer. Start the website’s normal upload flow, choose Upload from mobile, scan the QR code with your phone, then select the file. Microsoft says the feature supports up to 10 files at a time, up to 1 GB each; the website may set stricter limits.
What “Upload from mobile” does
This feature starts in desktop Microsoft Edge, at a website’s file-upload control. Edge displays a QR code; your phone scans it and supplies the selected file to that website’s upload process. It is useful when the site is already open on your computer but the photo, PDF, or other file is on your phone.
Microsoft describes the transfer as working without a cable or a cloud-storage step. You do not have to put the file in OneDrive, Google Drive, or Dropbox first. The destination website still receives and handles the file under its own policies. This is not the same as syncing files between Edge profiles, uploading from a site open in your phone’s browser, OneDrive backup, or Edge Drop, which is a separate cross-device sharing feature. - Desktop Edge: Microsoft’s policy documentation lists support for Edge 117 or later on Windows and Edge 118 or later on macOS. Availability can still vary by device, market, and browser build.
- Phone and network: Use a compatible phone or tablet with a camera or QR scanner. Microsoft recommends connecting the computer and phone to the same Wi-Fi or network. A work or guest network may prevent the devices from pairing.
- Mobile browser: Microsoft says other mobile browsers can be used for 10 trial uploads; for continued use without that limitation, it directs users to the Edge mobile browser.
- Batch and size: Up to 10 files at once, with a maximum of 1 GB per file. The website may allow fewer files or impose a smaller size limit.
- File types: The website decides which formats it accepts. A file being selectable on the phone does not mean the site will accept it.
The phone may ask for permission to use the camera, photos, files, or local network. Allow the relevant access if you want to continue. The documented feature flow does not establish that a Microsoft account is required, so do not assume account sign-in is the fix if pairing fails.

Upload a phone file to a website in desktop Edge
- Open the website in Edge on your Windows PC or Mac and sign in if the site requires it.
- Start the site’s usual upload action—such as Upload, Choose file, or Attach.
- In the file-selection interface, choose Upload from mobile. Edge should display a QR code.
- Open the phone’s camera or QR-scanning function and scan the code. Follow any prompt to open a browser or connect.
- Choose the file or files on the phone. If asked, grant access to the appropriate photo library or file location.
- Confirm the selection and wait for the website’s upload progress to finish.
- Check that the file appears in the site’s attachment list or form before submitting the page.
The exact appearance of the picker can vary by Edge build, operating system, and website. If you do not see the option, see the troubleshooting section below.
Find photos, PDFs, and other files on your phone
On a phone, a photo picker may show images but not documents. Look for a Files or Browse option and check Downloads, Documents, or the folder used by the app that created the file. If the item exists only inside another app or a cloud provider, that app may need to export or save a local copy before the phone’s picker can expose it. Edge cannot select files the operating system or source app does not make available.

- Note: Make sure your smartphone is equipped with OTG function and need to open OTG function in Settings when you plug memory stick, then you can transfer easily data bewteen different devices
For videos, ZIP files, and other less common formats, the same principle applies: the file must be within Edge’s stated size limit and accepted by the destination site. A site may reject an unsupported extension, a file over its own size cap, a password-protected archive, or a file that fails its security checks.

- Update desktop Edge, then reopen the website’s upload control. Check that you are using Edge on the computer, not Edge on the phone.
- Try another ordinary website upload field. Some site controls may not invoke the file-selection interface that exposes the feature.
- Check the computer’s Edge version against Microsoft’s documented thresholds: Windows 117+ or macOS 118+.
- If this is a work or school computer, ask the administrator whether the feature is disabled by policy. The desktop policy is named
UploadFromPhoneEnabled; when disabled, the feature cannot be used. See Microsoft’s policy documentation.
Do not confuse UploadFromPhoneEnabled with EdgeFileUploadAllowedForUrls. The former controls the desktop QR-based Upload from mobile feature; the latter concerns websites’ access to local-device uploads in Edge mobile and is a separate policy.

If the QR code will not scan or the devices will not pair
- Use Retry if Edge reports a lost connection, then scan the newly generated QR code. Keep the QR-code page open on the computer.
- Confirm both devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi or local network. Being on Wi-Fi is not always enough: guest networks, client isolation, captive portals, VPNs, or corporate network segmentation can prevent device-to-device communication.
- If permitted by your security rules, temporarily test without a VPN. Do not bypass workplace network controls; ask IT if the device is managed.
- Update Edge on both devices, then close and reopen the phone’s browser or Edge app. Approve camera, file, and any requested local-network permissions.
- For a scanning problem, raise the computer’s screen brightness, enlarge the code if possible, clean the camera lens, and ensure the code is unobstructed. Generate a fresh code if needed.
- Try a small file first. If policy allows, test another network such as a personal hotspot. Microsoft notes that enterprise network configurations can complicate pairing and suggests trying an alternative network when problems persist.
These network checks are diagnostic possibilities, not a guarantee that a particular setting is the cause. Microsoft’s documented guidance is to use the same network and retry after a lost connection.
If the file is selected but does not upload
Separate the failure into two stages: Edge must first transfer the selection into the website’s upload flow; then the website must accept and upload it.

- The phone cannot find it: Switch from Photos or Gallery to Files/Browse, look in the relevant folder, or export a local copy from the app where the file lives.
- The transfer stops: Pair again with a fresh QR code, test a smaller file, and check network stability.
- The site rejects the file: Check the site’s file-type, file-size, and quantity rules. Try a supported format or fewer files. A website’s malware/content scanner can also reject a selection.
- Only large files fail: Remember Edge’s 1-GB-per-file ceiling and the possibility of a lower website limit. A connection drop may also interrupt a large transfer.
- The whole upload form fails: Test the website with a small local file from the computer. If that fails too, the problem may be the site or its upload control rather than the phone pairing.
When another method is a better fit

For a one-time attachment, Upload from mobile avoids manually storing a cloud copy. For repeated access, backup, or shared folders, cloud storage is more appropriate. Neither OneDrive nor a paid Microsoft 365 plan is required for the Edge QR upload feature.
