To turn off ASUS router lights quickly, press and hold the router’s LED button for about three seconds. On routers without that button, use the web interface at AiMesh > Topology > Management > LED, if available. ASUS models and firmware differ: newer interfaces may put the control under AiMesh > System Settings, and decorative Aura RGB lighting may have its own controls.
Use the router’s LED button
- Look for a button labeled LED or LED On/Off on the front, back, or side of the router.
- Press and hold it for about three seconds, then release it when the lights turn off.
- Repeat the hold to turn them back on.
Do not assume a quick tap switches the lights off. On some Aura RGB models, a short press changes the lighting effect instead. For the RT-AX82U family—including the GUNDAM and KIMETSU editions—ASUS specifies a three-second hold to switch off both the indicator LEDs and Aura lighting. See ASUS’s RT-AX82U instructions.
Turn off LEDs in the web interface
- Connect to the router by Wi-Fi or Ethernet and open http://www.asusrouter.com in a browser. You can also use the router’s LAN IP address.
- Sign in with the router administrator account.
- Look for
AiMesh > Topology > Management > LEDand switch the LED control off. Apply or save if prompted.
Menu labels vary by model and firmware. On newer supported Wi-Fi 7 models, ASUS documents system lighting controls under AiMesh > System Settings > System LED control. If you do not see the first path, check this alternative and consult the manual for your exact model. ASUS’s general LED-control guide and its Wi-Fi 7 lighting guide describe the different paths.
Use the ASUS Router app
Where supported, open the ASUS Router app and go to Device > Management > LED ON/OFF, then switch the LEDs off. The option may be absent on some models, older firmware, app versions, or AiMesh nodes. ASUS lists remote LED control for firmware later than the 3.0.0.4.386.6xxxx branch; that is a branch threshold, not a universal current-version number. Use the WPS button if there is no LED button
Some supported routers let you reassign the physical WPS button to control lighting:
- Sign in to
http://www.asusrouter.com. - Open
Administration > System. - Find WPS Button behavior, select Turn LED On/Off, and apply the change.
- Press the physical button to toggle the lights.
ASUS illustrates this option with the RT-AX53U, but availability and button placement depend on the model. Reassignment changes what the button does: it may no longer start WPS in its usual way. To restore WPS behavior, return to Administration > System > WPS Button behavior and select the original function. ASUS’s WPS-button instructions.

Status LEDs and Aura RGB are not always the same
Status indicators report things such as power, internet/WAN, wireless, LAN, or USB activity; the exact lights vary by router. Selected gaming routers also have decorative Aura RGB lighting, which may be controlled separately. If the status indicators go dark but decorative lighting remains—or vice versa—look for separate system LED and Aura RGB settings. On some models, the physical LED button controls both; on others, their behavior differs. ASUS lists Aura RGB on selected gaming-router models in its Aura RGB support information.

Schedule lights to turn off at night
Scheduling is available only on supported models and firmware. ASUS’s scheduling guidance, checked August 18, 2026, identifies the GT-BE19000 AI as the currently supported model for the described Wi-Fi 7 scheduling rollout; ASUS says support is being added over time, so verify your exact model rather than treating that as a permanent compatibility list.

Schedule system LEDs
On a supported router, open AiMesh > System Settings, enable System LED control or System LED Night mode, and use the calendar control to add a schedule. Choose LED Offline to switch indicators off during the selected hours. LED Night Mode dims lighting where supported; ASUS says this dimmed mode is limited to Wi-Fi 7 Zen-series models in the cited guide.
Schedule Aura RGB
For supported Aura RGB routers, open the web-interface dashboard, find AURA RGB, and select the calendar icon. Enable an offline schedule, add a profile, choose days and hours, and save. ASUS also documents an Aura Night Mode schedule that dims rather than fully switches off the lighting.

ASUS says an LED Offline schedule also turns off Aura lighting. If you want to schedule Aura independently, use the Aura schedule without enabling the system LED schedule. AiMesh schedule synchronization depends on whether the individual nodes support the relevant lighting feature. If the lights will not turn off
- The setting is missing: Confirm the exact model and firmware, check both web-interface paths above, and look at the model’s manual. Firmware, interface version, and router-versus-node status can affect which controls appear. ASUS provides model manuals and downloads through its support resources.
- The physical button seems ineffective: Try holding it for about three seconds rather than tapping. Check whether it controls Aura effects, has been reassigned, or is subject to a schedule.
- A light remains on: It may be a separate status indicator or Aura RGB lighting. Controls are model-specific; not every model can switch off every individual light.
- Lights return after a reboot or update: Revisit the LED setting, confirm it was applied, check for schedules, and consult the manual. Settings persistence and hardware-button behavior can vary.
- WPS no longer works from the button: Restore its function under
Administration > System > WPS Button behavior.
Turning off indicator lights is intended to change their visibility, not the router’s network settings. If the lights go dark and you are unsure whether the router is still working, check the connection from a phone or computer rather than relying on the indicators.
Turn the lights back on
Use the same control you used to switch them off: hold the LED button again, turn LED control on in the web interface or app, or press the WPS button if you assigned it to LED control. For scheduled lighting, edit or disable the schedule. Exact controls vary by ASUS model and firmware, so the model manual takes precedence.
