Take the screenshot in your browser, then add it to Google Sheets with Insert > Image, paste it, or display a hosted image with =IMAGE(url). For repeatable placement, use Apps Script. The right method depends on whether the screenshot should sit inside a cell, float over the grid, or be inserted automatically.
Choose how to capture and place the screenshot
Google Sheets handles image insertion; your browser or another capture tool creates the screenshot. For a one-off image, save it as a PNG or JPG and insert it, or copy it from your desktop or the web and paste it into the spreadsheet. Google’s help says it supports PNG, JPG, and GIF images under 50 MB. Google Sheets: Add an image to a spreadsheet
- Capture the website in your browser and save the image, or copy the screenshot to your clipboard.
- In Sheets, select the destination cell.
- Choose Insert > Image.
- Select Image in cell to keep it within the grid, or Image over cells to position it as a floating visual.
- Select the saved file and insert it. If you copied the screenshot, paste it directly into the spreadsheet instead.
A cell containing an image cannot also contain text. For a row-based record, put the screenshot in one column and its page URL, label, or notes in neighboring columns. In-cell images suit records that should stay aligned with rows; over-cell images are better for visuals that need independent placement.
Display a screenshot from an image URL
If the screenshot is available at a URL that Sheets can fetch as an image, enter a formula such as =IMAGE("https://example.com/screenshot.png"). The URL needs to point to an image, and Google says URLs hosted at drive.google.com are not supported. Google also documents a restriction on directly or indirectly using a volatile function in the base URL. Google Sheets IMAGE function

The optional mode controls how the image fits in the cell:
| Mode | Behavior | Example |
|---|---|---|
| 1 (default) | Fits within the cell while preserving aspect ratio. | =IMAGE(A2) |
| 2 | Stretches the image to fill the cell. | =IMAGE(A2,2) |
| 3 | Displays the image at its original size. | =IMAGE(A2,3) |
| 4 | Uses custom height and width, in pixels. | =IMAGE(A2,4,120,200) |
The documented syntax is IMAGE(url, [mode], [height], [width]). If the formula does not display the image, first check that the URL is a direct, fetchable image URL rather than a Google Drive link.

Insert screenshots repeatedly with Apps Script
When screenshots arrive at predictable URLs and need to be placed at known positions, Apps Script can insert a publicly accessible image URL or a blob. The URL-based method takes a column and row; other overloads accept a BlobSource and optional pixel offsets. Scripts require spreadsheet authorization scopes. See the Apps Script Sheet reference for method signatures and authorization details.
const sheet = SpreadsheetApp.getActiveSpreadsheet().getSheets()[0];
sheet.insertImage('https://example.com/screenshot.png', 1, 1);
In this example, the image is placed at column 1, row 1. Use the blob overload when your workflow already has the image content rather than a publicly accessible URL.

Capture a full page or selected region
If the website is longer than the browser viewport, use a browser capture tool that supports full-page capture, then insert its output into Sheets using one of the methods above. The FireShot Chrome Web Store listing describes full-page, visible-area, and selected-region capture, with PDF, JPEG, GIF, and PNG export, clipboard copying, and annotations. This is an optional capture step; Sheets does not require a browser extension. Check the listing for current availability and terms before installing.
