On a Dell computer running Windows, press Windows + Shift + S to capture a selected part of a webpage. Press Windows + PrtScn to save the entire screen automatically. If you need the complete webpage, including content below the fold, use Microsoft Edge’s Screenshot → Capture full page command.
Choose the capture you actually need
A keyboard shortcut captures pixels currently displayed by Windows. It does not automatically capture content farther down a webpage. Use this guide according to the result you need:
| What you need | Best method | Where the result goes |
|---|---|---|
| A rectangle or selected part of the page | Windows + Shift + S | Snipping Tool, with options to copy or save |
| The whole screen, saved immediately | Windows + PrtScn | PicturesScreenshots |
| Only the active browser window | Alt + PrtScr | Clipboard; paste into Paint or another app |
| The whole webpage, including below-the-fold content | Microsoft Edge Screenshot → Capture full page | Edge’s save or copy controls |
Capture part of a webpage with Snipping Tool
- Open the webpage in your browser and bring the portion you want into view.
- Press Windows + Shift + S. The screen dims and the Snipping Tool toolbar appears.
- Choose rectangular snip, then drag around the webpage area. Other snip modes may be available on your Windows installation, including window and full-screen capture.
- Select the Snipping Tool notification or window that appears. From there you can annotate, copy, share, or save the image.
- Use Ctrl + C to copy the snip or Ctrl + S to save it. Pick a filename, location, and image format in the Save dialog.
This method is usually the fastest way to capture what is visible. It intentionally captures a selected rectangle, not the hidden part of a long webpage.
Save the entire visible screen automatically
- Arrange the browser window and any other visible content exactly as you want it captured.
- Press Windows + PrtScn at the same time.
- Open File Explorer and go to Pictures → Screenshots. Windows documents this folder as the default destination for this shortcut.
The resulting file includes the entire display, so notifications, the taskbar, other windows, and browser chrome can appear in the image. Close or hide anything confidential before pressing the shortcut.

Capture only the browser window
- Click the browser window so it is the active window.
- Press Alt + PrtScr. Windows copies the active window to the clipboard.
- Open Paint, Word, an email, or another image-capable application and press Ctrl + V.
- Save the pasted image from that application.
This avoids capturing the rest of the desktop, but it still captures only what fits inside the browser window. A long page will be cut off below the visible viewport.
Use Edge for a full-page webpage screenshot
For an article, dashboard, documentation page, or other page that extends below the screen, Microsoft Edge provides a browser-level capture. It can capture content beyond the visible screen without requiring you to scroll manually.
- Open the target webpage in Microsoft Edge.
- Press Ctrl + Shift + S, or open Edge’s Screenshot command from the right-click menu or Settings menu.
- Choose Capture full page.
- Use Edge’s markup tools if needed, then choose the command to copy or save the result.
Microsoft notes that Screenshot functionality can vary by device type, market, and browser version. If the command or full-page choice is missing, update Edge when updates are offered or use the visible-area methods above. Do not mistake a normal screen snip for a full-page capture: a screen-bound tool cannot include content that was never rendered in the viewport.

Where Windows puts screenshots
Files saved automatically
Windows + PrtScn normally creates an image in PicturesScreenshots. In File Explorer, select Pictures in the left navigation pane and open Screenshots. You can right-click a file to rename, move, or open its Properties dialog.

Captures stored temporarily
PrtScr and Alt + PrtScr copy an image to the clipboard rather than creating a file. Paste it into Paint or another suitable program before copying something else, because a later clipboard operation can replace it. Save from that program when you need a permanent file.
Snipping Tool results
A Windows + Shift + S snip is copied to the Snipping Tool workflow and commonly triggers a notification. Select the notification to annotate or save it. If you dismiss the notification, press the shortcut again and save the new snip immediately.
Make the capture readable and safe
- Zoom the webpage to a practical level before capturing. Excessive zoom-out can make text unreadable; excessive zoom-in can cut off important columns.
- Wait for images, charts, and menus to finish loading. A shortcut captures the current rendered state, not a future state after scripts complete.
- Close personal tabs, account details, notifications, and unrelated windows before using a full-screen shortcut.
- For a selected area, include enough surrounding context that someone can tell which page and section they are viewing.
- Use a descriptive filename such as
invoice-help-page-2026-09-29.pngand save it in a project folder when the image will be used later.
Fix common Dell and Windows screenshot problems
The Print Screen key does nothing
Dell keyboards use several labels, including PrintScreen, PrntScrn, PrntScr, PrtScn, PrtScr, and PrtSc. On some Dell laptops, the key is combined with another function and requires Fn. Dell examples for applicable layouts include Fn + F10 and Fn + Insert. Check the manual for your exact Dell model if those combinations do not work.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:

The shortcut captures only part of the webpage
That is expected when using Snipping Tool, PrtScr, or Alt + PrtScr: they capture the current screen or window. For content below the fold, use Edge’s Capture full page feature.
I cannot find the image
First determine which shortcut you used. Check PicturesScreenshots only for Windows + PrtScn. For PrtScr or Alt + PrtScr, paste the clipboard contents into Paint and save them. For Snipping Tool, open the notification or Snipping Tool window and use Ctrl + S.
Edge has no full-page option
Edge’s feature availability can vary by device type, market, and browser version. Try opening Screenshot from the right-click menu or Settings menu instead of the keyboard shortcut. If Capture full page remains unavailable, capture the visible sections separately or use an external webpage-capture service.

Dynamic pages may still be loading, showing a consent dialog, or changing after a delay. Wait until the content is stable, dismiss overlays that block the page, and then capture. If a page requires a login, make sure the correct account is active before taking the image and avoid exposing private information in a shared screenshot.

For repeatable captures, automation, or pages that must be rendered on demand, ScreenshotNeo provides a website screenshot API and MCP server. A single request returns a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. Before the capture, it accepts cookie and consent banners like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each cleanup step can be turned off.
Only clean shots are billed. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and each response identifies the result with X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers. Its MCP server includes take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients.
One-call cURL example
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
Python example
import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
Node.js example
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for authentication, output handling, and the complete parameter list. The API accepts 63 options, including full-page capture with lazy images loaded, a CSS-selector element capture, dark mode, 12 device presets or any viewport, retina scale, PDF paper size/margins/landscape/page ranges, HTML or CSS to image, custom JavaScript and CSS, click-before-capture, hidden selectors, waits for a selector, delay, or network idle, ad/tracker/request/resource blocking, custom headers, cookies, user agent and Authorization, timezone and geolocation, transparent backgrounds, image resizing, a chosen cache TTL, signed links for public <img> tags, asynchronous jobs with signed webhooks, bulk capture of up to 100 URLs per call, a usage API, and an OpenAPI specification. Parameter names used by other screenshot APIs also work, which can simplify a migration.
Recommended Free Tools
For reliability, use a selector or network-idle wait when a page builds its content after load, and use caching with a TTL when the same URL is requested repeatedly. Use asynchronous jobs and signed webhooks for long-running work, and bulk capture for batches instead of making 100 unrelated client calls.

FAQ
Will a screenshot include content that is hidden behind a page’s “Load more” button?
Only if that content has been expanded and rendered before the capture. Screen shortcuts record what Windows can currently display; a full-page browser capture can include rendered content beyond the viewport but cannot invent content that the page has not loaded.
Can I change the folder used by Windows + PrtScn?
Windows documents PicturesScreenshots as the destination. To organize files elsewhere, move or rename the saved image afterward, or use Snipping Tool’s Save dialog and choose another folder.
