On desktop, use the browser’s built-in full-page command: Edge offers Capture full page, Firefox offers Save full page, and Chrome provides Capture full size screenshot in DevTools. iPhone, iPad and many Android phones provide a similarly named long-screenshot control.
What a full-page screenshot actually captures
A normal screenshot records only the current viewport. A full-page capture renders the page’s content below that viewport and combines it into a single PNG, JPEG, WebP or PDF, depending on the tool. It is useful for documentation, bug reports, design reviews, receipts and archiving a web page.
Results can differ when a site uses lazy-loaded images, animations, an internal scroll panel or content that appears only after interaction. Let the page finish loading before you capture it. For a conversation, dashboard or other app with its own scrolling panel, the browser may capture the outer page while missing the panel; use the app’s export function or a capture tool that supports nested scrolling.
Microsoft Edge: capture the entire page
- Open the page you want to save.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+S, or open Edge’s Screenshot/Web Capture command from the browser menu.
- Select Capture full page.
- Review the result. Add markup if needed, then copy it or save it to your device.
Edge describes this as capturing an entire webpage in one screenshot, including content extending beyond the screen. The exact toolbar placement can vary by Edge release, but the full-page option remains in the Screenshot/Web Capture workflow. See Microsoft’s Web Capture instructions and feature overview.

Firefox: use Save full page
- Open the target page in Firefox.
- Start Firefox Screenshot from the page context menu or browser menu.
- Choose Save full page in the screenshot controls.
- Download the resulting PNG, or use Developer Tools if you specifically need the developer workflow.
Firefox also lets you capture the visible area, a selected region or an individual element. Mozilla’s support wording is direct: select Save full page in the upper-right of the screenshot tool. Options can move slightly between Firefox versions; consult Mozilla’s screenshot support page if you cannot find the command.
Chrome: Capture full size screenshot through DevTools
- Open the page in Google Chrome.
- Open DevTools with F12, Ctrl+Shift+I on Windows/Linux, or Command+Option+I on macOS.
- Open the DevTools Command Menu with Ctrl+Shift+P (Windows/Linux) or Command+Shift+P (macOS).
- Type Capture full size screenshot.
- Select that command. Chrome creates the image and places it in your normal download location.
Chrome’s documented built-in route is in DevTools rather than a regular toolbar button. If the command is missing, click inside DevTools first, reload the page, and search the Command Menu again. Chrome may capture the document’s full height but not an independently scrolling element inside it.
iPhone and iPad: use the Full Page option
- Open the page in Safari (or another app that supports full-page screenshots).
- Take a normal screenshot using your device’s button combination.
- Tap the screenshot preview before it disappears.
- Choose Full Page at the top of the editor.
- Use the page preview to check the captured range, then save or share it. Depending on the app and workflow, the result is saved as a PDF rather than a raster image.
Not every iOS or iPadOS screen supports a full-page result. When the tab is unavailable, use the site’s export function or a dedicated capture tool instead of assuming the screenshot contains everything.
Android: look for Scroll capture or Capture more
- Open the page and take a screenshot using your phone’s hardware buttons or screenshot gesture.
- In the screenshot controls, tap Scroll capture, Capture more or a similarly named button.
- Extend the selected area until the required content is included.
- Save or share the resulting long image.
The label and behavior depend on the phone manufacturer, Android version and app. Some devices offer the control only in supported apps. If you do not see it, check the screenshot toolbar, system help or the app’s own export command.

When built-in tools miss content
Lazy-loaded images
Some pages request images only as they approach the viewport. Wait for loading indicators to finish, or scroll through the page once before taking the capture. A capture made too early can contain blank image areas even though the browser eventually displays them.
Dynamic and animated content
Dashboards, charts and client-rendered applications may change while the browser assembles the image. Pause updates where the application allows it, wait for the final state, and repeat the capture if content shifts between sections.
Nested scrolling panels
A page may have a fixed outer shell and a separate element that scrolls internally, such as a chat transcript or table. A full-document screenshot does not necessarily expand that element. Use the application’s export, select and copy its content, or use a capture service that can target a specific element.
Sticky headers and overlays
Fixed navigation bars, cookie dialogs, newsletter prompts and chat bubbles can cover parts of a long capture. Dismiss them before capturing. If a consent dialog blocks the page, make a deliberate choice rather than hiding a notice that your organization is required to retain.

Extension fallback: when you need another export format
A full-page extension such as GoFullPage can be a fallback when your browser lacks a native command or you need PNG/PDF export and additional editing. Install only from the browser’s current official extension store, review its permissions, and confirm that its privacy policy fits the pages you plan to capture. Extensions can read page content, so avoid granting access to sensitive sites unless necessary. Availability and permissions can change; check the listing immediately before installation.

The result stops at the viewport
Confirm that you selected the full-page command rather than visible-area capture. In Chrome, use the exact DevTools command; in Edge or Firefox, choose the full-page option. On mobile, look for the long-screenshot control after taking the initial shot.
Images are blank or missing
Wait for the page to finish loading and scroll through it once to trigger lazy loading. Disable aggressive content blocking for the page if it prevents required resources, then capture again.

Accept or reject the banner, close overlays and repeat the capture. If the banner is required evidence, preserve it intentionally rather than removing it.
The page is extremely tall
Very long documents can create large images that are slow to render, open and share. Capture a PDF, select a relevant element, or divide the document into logical sections. For automated work, use a service with resizing, caching or asynchronous jobs.

The capture is blank, timed out or blocked
Check the URL, network access, authentication and robot or bot protection. A browser may show a challenge that a screenshot command cannot pass. For pages you own, provide the required headers or cookies through an approved workflow; do not attempt to bypass access controls on someone else’s site.
Chrome’s command is unavailable
Focus DevTools, open the Command Menu again and search for Capture full size screenshot. If it remains unavailable, update Chrome or use Edge, Firefox or an approved extension.
Privacy and reliability checklist
- Verify the URL and account state before capturing private or authenticated content.
- Remove personal data from the viewport and close unrelated tabs before sharing an image.
- Keep the browser window at a consistent size when comparing captures over time.
- Record the date, browser/device and page state for evidence that may need to be reproduced.
- For automated jobs, set explicit waits, timeouts and output formats, and inspect response status and billing metadata.
- Respect site terms, copyright, robots policies and access controls.
FAQ
Can I take a full-page screenshot as a PNG?
Yes. Edge, Firefox and Chrome desktop workflows produce image files. Apple’s Full Page workflow commonly saves a PDF, while Android output depends on the device.
Why does my chat transcript not appear in the full screenshot?
The transcript may be an independently scrolling element. A document-level capture does not automatically expand nested panels; use the app’s export or an element-aware capture workflow.
Is a full-page screenshot the same as a PDF?
No. A screenshot is a rendered image; a PDF is a document format that may preserve selectable text, page dimensions and pagination. Choose based on how the result will be read or archived.
