For the entire webpage below the fold, use a Chrome extension such as GoFullPage; Chromebook’s built-in Screen Capture tool only captures the current display, a selected area, or a window. Press the Screenshot key (if your Chromebook has one), or open Settings > Screen Capture. You can also press Shift + Ctrl + Show windows (or Ctrl + Shift + F5 on an external keyboard), then choose the capture type. For a scrolling webpage, install GoFullPage from the official Chrome Web Store, run it from the toolbar or with Alt + Shift + P, and export the assembled page as an image or PDF.
Choose the method that matches what you need
| What you want | Best method | What it captures | Output |
|---|---|---|---|
| A picture of everything currently visible | Chromebook Screen Capture | The current display, a region, or one window | Screenshot file, saved to Downloads by default |
| The complete webpage, including content below the fold | GoFullPage Chrome extension | The page while it scrolls through and joins each section | Image or PDF |
| A repeatable capture from code or an automated workflow | ScreenshotNeo API | A rendered URL, with controls for waits, devices, PDFs and more | PNG, JPEG, WebP or PDF response |
“Full screen” in ChromeOS and “full page” on a website are different. ChromeOS’s documented full-screen option means the display you are using; it does not automatically scroll through a long article. A full-page capture must render the page beyond the visible viewport.
Take a screenshot of the Chromebook display
Use the Screenshot key
- Press the dedicated Screenshot key, if your Chromebook keyboard includes one.
- When the capture bar appears, choose Screenshot.
- Select Full screen, Partial, or Window.
- For a full-display image, choose Full screen and click or confirm the display.
Google’s Chromebook Help identifies the feature this way: “You can take a screenshot or record a video of your Chromebook’s screen.” The resulting file is normally placed in Downloads.
Open Screen Capture from Settings
- Open the Launcher and select Settings.
- Open Screen Capture.
- Choose Screenshot, then select Full screen, Partial, or Window.
The Screen Capture settings also let you choose a different save folder instead of Downloads. This is useful when you take many captures for a project or need files stored in Google Drive through the Files app.

Capture an entire scrolling webpage with GoFullPage
GoFullPage is a Chrome extension designed for pages that continue below the visible viewport. Its Chrome Web Store listing describes a process that scrolls through the page, captures each section, and assembles the sections into one result. The listing currently identifies version 8.7 and an update date of September 10, 2026; store details and availability can change.
Install and run the extension
- Open the official Chrome Web Store listing for GoFullPage – Full Page Screen Capture.
- Select Add to Chrome, review the permissions, and confirm the installation.
- Open the webpage you want to capture. Let its text, images, charts and other content finish loading first.
- Select the GoFullPage icon in Chrome’s toolbar. If it is hidden, open the Extensions menu and pin it.
- Alternatively, press Alt + Shift + P.
- Wait while the extension scrolls through the page and assembles the sections. Do not switch tabs or interact with the page during this process.
- When the result opens, choose the image or PDF download option and save the file.
Pages with inner scroll areas and iframes
The store listing says GoFullPage can handle inner scrollable elements and embedded iframes. These are common in dashboards, documentation sites and pages with a comments panel. Because each site implements scrolling differently, inspect the finished capture rather than assuming every nested panel was included correctly.

Very large captures
An unusually large capture may be split into images opened in separate tabs. Download each part and check the order before sharing or combining them into a document. Long pages can also contain sticky headers, animated elements or lazy-loaded media that change as the extension scrolls.

Permissions and privacy
A capture extension needs access to the webpage it is processing. Install it from the official Chrome Web Store listing and read the current permissions and privacy section before granting access. The listing says the developer declares that it will not collect or use data. That is the developer’s disclosure, not an independent privacy audit, so avoid capturing confidential pages unless your organization permits the extension.
Make the scrolling capture reliable
- Load first: wait for fonts, images and charts to appear. Scroll once manually if a site only loads media after an initial interaction.
- Close overlays: dismiss sign-in prompts, cookie dialogs and chat panels that would otherwise be repeated in every segment.
- Use a stable viewport: maximize Chrome and keep zoom at the level you want in the final image. Changing zoom changes the page’s layout and capture dimensions.
- Pause dynamic content: carousels, video and live dashboards can produce inconsistent sections. Stop playback where possible.
- Check the joins: look for duplicated lines, missing lazy-loaded images, clipped fixed headers or blank iframe regions.
- Respect access controls: a page behind a login should be captured only in an account and environment where you have permission.
Built-in tool versus extension
| Consideration | Chromebook Screen Capture | GoFullPage |
|---|---|---|
| Setup | Already part of ChromeOS | Requires installing browser software and granting page access |
| Capture scope | Visible display, selected region or window | Scrolls through a webpage and assembles below-the-fold content |
| Best for | A quick screen state, error message or app window | Articles, documentation, landing pages and long dashboards |
| Export described in the source | Screenshot file | Image or PDF |
| Failure considerations | Does not document a scrolling webpage control | Dynamic pages and oversized captures need visual checking |
Troubleshooting
The image shows only the top of the page
You used ChromeOS’s Full screen option, which captures the display rather than a whole webpage. Run GoFullPage from the page itself, or use an automated URL capture service.
The extension icon is missing
Open Chrome’s Extensions menu, locate GoFullPage and pin it to the toolbar. You can also use Alt + Shift + P after the extension is installed.

The capture stops or contains blank sections
Reload the page, wait for network activity and lazy-loaded media to finish, then retry. Close overlays and temporarily disable page animations. If the page requires a login, confirm that the session is still valid. Some sites actively block automated scrolling; do not bypass a site’s access controls.

Sticky navigation and fixed-position elements are rendered repeatedly as the extension scrolls. Hide or collapse the element if the page allows it, then capture again. Review the complete output before publishing.
The result is split across tabs
The listing notes that very large captures can be split into separate image tabs. Download all parts, preserve their sequence, and combine them only after checking that no section is missing.
The file is difficult to find
Check the Files app’s Downloads folder. For ChromeOS captures, open Settings > Screen Capture and select the preferred save location for future screenshots.

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server for developers. A single GET request can return a PNG, JPEG, WebP or PDF, so you can capture a long page without installing a Chromebook extension or manually scrolling.

This cURL example captures Stripe and writes the response to a WebP file:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
Python:
import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
Node.js:
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
Why an API can be preferable for repeat captures
- It accepts cookie and consent banners before capture and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups and chat widgets; each cleanup step can be turned off.
- Bot checks, CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads and cache hits are not billed. Response headers identify the page verdict and whether the request was billed.
- An MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info and capture_pdf tools for Claude, Cursor and other MCP clients.
- There are controls for full-page lazy-image loading, CSS-selector element capture, dark mode, 12 device presets or custom viewports, retina scale, PDF paper size and page ranges, custom CSS and JavaScript, click actions, hide selectors, selector/delay/network-idle waits, blocked ads or resources, headers, cookies, user agents, Authorization, timezone, geolocation, transparent backgrounds, resizing, chosen cache TTLs, signed links, asynchronous webhooks, bulk capture of up to 100 URLs per call, a usage API and an OpenAPI specification.
- Existing integrations are easier to move because parameter names used by other screenshot APIs also work.

FAQ
Does a Chromebook have a built-in scrolling screenshot?
Google’s documented Screen Capture controls cover full-screen, partial and window captures. They do not describe a control that scrolls through an entire webpage, so use a webpage-capable extension or API for that result.
Can I save a full webpage as a PDF?
GoFullPage’s listing describes PDF export. ScreenshotNeo can also return a PDF and lets you set paper size, margins, landscape mode and page ranges.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsDo I need to buy hardware?
No. The built-in tool and browser software perform the capture; a physical screenshot device or replacement keyboard is not required.
Will every website capture perfectly?
No method guarantees that. Dynamic content, nested scrolling, access restrictions and very large pages can produce missing or repeated areas, so inspect the output.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where are Chromebook screenshots stored?
ChromeOS saves them in Downloads by default. You can choose another folder in Settings > Screen Capture.
