To show Google Calendar events in Apple’s built-in Calendar app, go to Settings → Apps → Calendar → Calendar Accounts → Add Account → Google, sign in, and enable Calendars. Then check the calendars you want to display in the Calendar app. To have new events sync back to Google, save them to a Google calendar—not iCloud or another account.
Choose the setup that matches what you want
- Apple Calendar with Google events: Add your Google account to iPhone settings. This is the usual choice if you want Apple’s interface while keeping events in Google.
- Google’s full calendar experience: Install the Google Calendar app and sign in. It is the better fit for Google-specific features and notifications.
- A read-only calendar: Subscribe to a calendar feed, such as a public schedule. A subscription does not let you edit events or send changes back to Google.
- Move existing iCloud events to Google: Treat this as a separate migration. Adding both accounts makes their calendars available in one interface; it does not merge or transfer their events.
Add your Google account to Apple Calendar
- Open Settings on your iPhone.
- Tap Apps → Calendar → Calendar Accounts → Add Account.
- Choose Google and sign in to the account that has the calendars you need.
- When account switches appear, leave Calendars on. Turn off Mail, Contacts, or other options if you do not want those data types on the iPhone.
- Open the Calendar app and tap Calendars at the bottom of the screen.
- Check the Google calendars you want to see, then tap Done if shown.
These are the current iOS 26-era labels in Apple’s iPhone Calendar settings guide. On older iOS versions, the route may instead be Settings → Calendar → Accounts → Add Account, or use Passwords and Accounts. If labels differ, search Settings for “Calendar Accounts.” Google’s setup instructions are also available in Google Calendar Help.

Set Google as the default for new events
Adding the account does not change where new events are saved. Set a Google calendar as the default so events you create in Apple Calendar go to Google unless you choose another calendar for a particular event.

- Open Settings → Apps → Calendar.
- Tap Default Calendar.
- Select the Google calendar you want to use for new events.
When creating an important event, check its Calendar field before saving. The default controls new events; it does not convert existing iCloud events. See Apple’s Calendar settings guide for the setting.

Check that events sync in both directions
With the Google account connected, an event created or edited in Apple Calendar can sync with Google when it belongs to a Google calendar. That is account-based access, not a merger of Google and iCloud: each event remains stored with the calendar account shown in its Calendar field.
- Create a temporary test event in Apple Calendar.
- Tap its Calendar field and select the Google calendar.
- Save the event.
- Check Google Calendar on the web or in the Google Calendar app for the test event.
If an event is assigned to iCloud, “On My iPhone,” Exchange, or another account, it will not appear in Google just because the Google account is also connected. Google explains this account distinction in its sync troubleshooting guidance.
Show shared or secondary Google calendars
A connected account may show your main calendar but not every shared, secondary, or delegated calendar. First make sure the calendar is accessible in Google Calendar on the web and that the iPhone is signed into the same Google account.

- In iPhone Settings, open Apps → Calendar → Calendar Accounts, tap the Google account, and confirm Calendars is enabled.
- In Apple Calendar, tap Calendars and check whether the missing calendar is listed but unchecked.
- If it is not listed, open Google’s calendar-sync selection instructions and select the additional calendar for Apple-device syncing.
- You can also open Google’s calendar sync selection page while signed into the relevant account; it may redirect based on which Google account is active.
- Return to Apple Calendar and refresh or reopen it.
Know what Apple Calendar does not support
Apple Calendar can display and generally edit events in Google calendars, but it does not provide every Google Calendar feature. Google lists these limitations for Apple Calendar:
- Google event email notifications do not work through Apple Calendar.
- You cannot create new Google calendars there.
- Room Scheduler is unavailable there.
If you rely on those features or prefer Google’s own interface, use the official Google Calendar app. You can keep the Google account enabled in Apple Calendar as well; the apps are not mutually exclusive.
Use a subscription only for read-only calendars
A calendar subscription is useful for a public or shared feed you only need to view, such as a school schedule or holidays. It is not a substitute for adding your Google account when you want to edit events and sync changes back.

To subscribe on iOS 26, open Calendar → Calendars → Add Calendar → Add Subscription Calendar, enter the calendar’s web address, tap Find, name it, choose an account, and tap Done. Apple documents this in its subscription calendar instructions.
For a Google calendar, its owner can find the Secret address in iCal format in Google Calendar settings. Treat that URL like a private access link: anyone who obtains it may be able to view the feed. Google’s calendar program sync guidance explains where to find it. If a work or school account does not expose the address or a shared calendar, its administrator may restrict access.
Move existing iCloud events separately
Events already stored in iCloud stay in iCloud when you add Google. They can appear alongside Google events in Apple Calendar, but that shared view does not change their owner or copy them into Google.

- For a small number of important events, edit or recreate them and select the Google calendar in the event’s Calendar field.
- For a larger calendar, consider an export/import workflow if it suits your needs, and verify where imported events are stored before relying on them.
- Use a subscription when you only need to view a feed; it is not a two-way migration.
Do not import or copy the same events while also syncing or subscribing to the original calendar unless you want duplicates. Third-party services that synchronize separate iCloud and Google calendars are a more complex option, with added account permissions, privacy considerations, possible fees, and conflict or duplication risks.

Google calendars do not appear in Apple Calendar
- Confirm the correct Google account is connected and its Calendars switch is on.
- In Apple Calendar, tap Calendars and check the visibility box beside the calendar.
- Confirm the calendar exists and is visible in Google Calendar on the web.
- For a shared or secondary calendar, use Google’s calendar-sync selection page as described above.
- Check the iPhone’s internet connection, then refresh or reopen Calendar.
- If the calendar is still missing, remove and add the Google account again.

An event appears on the iPhone but not in Google Calendar
Open the event, tap Edit, and inspect Calendar. If it is assigned to iCloud, “On My iPhone,” or another account, move or recreate it under the Google calendar. Set Google as the default for future events, and still check the field when an event must land in a particular calendar.

An event appears in Google but not on the iPhone
Check the Google account’s Calendars switch and the calendar’s visibility in Apple Calendar. If it is shared or secondary, confirm it is enabled for Apple-device syncing; also check the network connection. Google states that its Google Calendar app syncs past events up to one year, so older events may need to be viewed at calendar.google.com. That stated limit is for the Google Calendar app and should not be assumed to describe Apple Calendar.
Updates are delayed
Refresh timing depends on account support and iPhone settings; do not assume every update arrives instantly. To inspect fetch behavior, open Settings → Apps → Calendar → Calendar Accounts → Fetch New Data. Apple says Automatically downloads new data when the iPhone is charging and connected to Wi-Fi, so that option does not mean continuous instant updates. See Apple’s settings guide.
Events appear twice
In Apple Calendar’s Calendars list, identify which account or subscription supplies each copy. Duplicates can result from adding the same Google account more than once, enabling both an account and a subscription for the same calendar, manually copying events, or running a third-party sync service alongside native sync. Disable the duplicate source and keep one authoritative calendar for the events.
Google sign-in fails
Complete the normal Google sign-in flow first. Google notes that users on older operating systems who use 2-Step Verification may need an app password rather than their usual password. This is an older-system exception, not the standard setup for current iOS. See Google’s iPhone setup help.
A work or school calendar is unavailable
Google Workspace administrators can restrict calendar sharing, subscriptions, or related access. If a shared calendar or Secret iCal address is unavailable, ask the organization’s administrator whether access is permitted; Google describes the address and sharing controls in its calendar sync guidance.
