GeForce Experience used to broadcast PC gameplay directly to Twitch through its Alt+Z Share overlay. NVIDIA’s current app no longer includes that feature, so the practical setup for a new stream is to use OBS Studio or Streamlabs Desktop for the broadcast, with NVIDIA’s app for drivers and capture. NVIDIA Broadcast is optional for compatible RTX systems that need microphone or webcam effects.
Can GeForce Experience still stream directly to Twitch?
Not as NVIDIA’s current streaming workflow. NVIDIA’s legacy GeForce Experience guide still documents direct Twitch broadcasting, but NVIDIA announced that its newer NVIDIA app would discontinue broadcasts to Twitch and YouTube. The announcement was made on February 22, 2024; as of August 18, 2026, NVIDIA’s current direction is to use the NVIDIA app for features such as drivers, the overlay, and ShadowPlay capture—not as a Twitch broadcasting application. If an older GeForce Experience installation still shows Broadcast controls, they may work on that particular system, but account authentication or backend services may not. NVIDIA is directing remaining GeForce Experience users to upgrade, and warns that critical GeForce Experience web servers will be switched off. Do not install or keep unsupported software just to preserve direct broadcasting. Use the legacy steps below only if you already have a functioning installation.
How to use the legacy GeForce Experience broadcast controls
These menu names are from NVIDIA’s older GeForce Experience interface and may differ by version. NVIDIA’s legacy broadcasting guide documents the following process.

Enable the Share overlay
- Open GeForce Experience and press
Alt+Z. - If the overlay does not open, go to Settings > General > Share in GeForce Experience and enable Share.
- If another program uses
Alt+Z, change the shortcut under Settings > Keyboard shortcuts.
Enable broadcasting and connect Twitch
- Open the Share overlay with
Alt+Z, then select Settings > Broadcast. - Choose Yes to enable broadcasting. If available, set the resolution, frame rate, bitrate, overlays, or Twitch ingest server.
- Return to the overlay settings and select Connect > Twitch > Log in.
- Complete Twitch authorization and verify that the account appears as connected.
Start or stop a legacy stream
- Launch the game, open the overlay with
Alt+Z, and select Broadcast > Start. - Choose Twitch if prompted, enter the available stream title or metadata, then select Go Live.
- To end the broadcast, open Broadcast in the overlay and select Stop.
NVIDIA’s older tutorial says GeForce Experience could broadcast to only one service at a time. Its existence does not mean the controls or Twitch sign-in remain operational on every old installation.
How to stream to Twitch with OBS and NVIDIA hardware
For a new setup, use a dedicated broadcasting app. Twitch lists OBS Studio and Streamlabs Desktop among its recommended broadcasting applications. OBS is a free option with detailed control over scenes, audio, and encoding. The NVIDIA app remains useful for GPU drivers, the overlay, and ShadowPlay capture; it does not replace OBS as the program that sends a live broadcast to Twitch.

Install OBS and connect your Twitch account
- Install the current NVIDIA app from NVIDIA if you want NVIDIA driver, overlay, or capture features.
- Download OBS Studio from the official OBS website and install it.
- In OBS, open the stream setup or service settings, choose Twitch, and use the built-in account authorization. This avoids exposing or manually copying a stream key unless you specifically need that method.
Build a basic gameplay scene
- Add Game Capture for the game when it is supported.
- Check that game or desktop sound reaches OBS. If it does not, add an Audio Output Capture source and select the correct playback device.
- Add an Audio Input Capture source for your microphone.
- Optionally add a Video Capture Device for a webcam and browser sources for alerts or overlays.
OBS labels and setup screens can change between releases. Choose sources by their function, and avoid adding duplicate audio inputs or capturing the same game multiple times.

- Open OBS output or streaming settings and choose an NVIDIA hardware encoder, such as NVENC, if it is available for your GPU and OBS version.
- Set output resolution, frame rate, and bitrate conservatively for your upload connection and the game’s performance demands.
- Preview the scene, check the audio meters, and run a test before going live. Twitch recommends testing your stream; see its getting-started guidance.
- Start the stream from OBS when the preview and audio are correct.
NVENC uses a dedicated GPU encoding block to reduce the CPU work involved in encoding video; it does not make streaming cost-free. NVIDIA describes the technology at its broadcasting page. A game that saturates the GPU can still cause rendering or encoding trouble, so cap its frame rate or lower GPU-heavy settings if OBS performance suffers. Encoder quality and codec availability vary by GPU generation and software. Do not assume AV1 is automatically the best Twitch choice; check current Twitch support and viewer compatibility before selecting it.

Choose settings that your connection and PC can sustain
There is no single resolution, frame rate, or bitrate that suits every game, connection, and viewer. Higher output resolution and frame rate require more data and encoding capacity; complex games and extra animated sources can add load. Base the settings on the upload capacity you can sustain, not just the speed advertised for your internet plan. If the connection is unstable, reduce bitrate; if the stream looks too demanding to encode or render, lower resolution or frame rate.
- Leave GPU headroom for OBS by capping in-game frame rate and lowering demanding graphics settings when necessary.
- Use a wired connection where possible, and test the actual stream before relying on a setting.
- Watch OBS statistics during a test. Skipped frames point toward encoding overload; rendering lag points toward GPU or scene load; dropped frames point toward network or ingest instability.
- Try another Twitch ingest server if your broadcast software offers that option and network-related frame loss continues.
Should you add NVIDIA Broadcast?
NVIDIA Broadcast is an optional audio and video processing application, not a Twitch streaming service. It can provide microphone noise and room-echo removal, background removal or replacement, and webcam effects such as Auto Frame and Virtual Key Light. In OBS, select its virtual microphone or camera as the relevant input. Features and effects are described on NVIDIA’s Broadcast page.

NVIDIA lists these requirements for the current NVIDIA Broadcast application: Windows 10 64-bit; a GeForce RTX 2060, Quadro RTX 3000, TITAN RTX, or newer/equivalent supported RTX hardware; at least 8 GB of RAM; NVIDIA driver branch R570 or newer; and internet access during installation. NVIDIA recommends roughly an Intel Core i5-8600 or AMD Ryzen 5 2600 or higher. Verify current compatibility on NVIDIA’s page before installing. Broadcast is unnecessary if your microphone and room are already suitable, and its processing can use resources that a demanding game also needs.

Alt+Z does nothing
- Check whether the overlay is enabled in the NVIDIA app or, for an old installation, GeForce Experience.
- Try changing the shortcut in the NVIDIA software settings, then restart the app and game.
- Confirm you are not following GeForce Experience instructions while using the newer NVIDIA app: the apps do not expose identical features.
- If the overlay remains unavailable, update or reinstall the NVIDIA software and driver, or use OBS for capture and broadcasting.
Twitch is missing from NVIDIA’s menu
The current NVIDIA app discontinued direct Twitch broadcasting, so there is no hidden Twitch toggle to enable. Connect Twitch inside OBS or Streamlabs Desktop instead. Legacy GeForce Experience authentication may also be unavailable.

Game Capture shows a black screen
- Select the specific game executable in the capture source if automatic detection fails.
- Try Window Capture or Display Capture as alternatives, and test borderless-windowed mode.
- Run the game and broadcasting app at compatible privilege levels; temporarily disable conflicting overlays.
- Do not capture the same game through multiple sources. Some games’ anti-cheat or protected rendering behavior can also limit capture.
Game audio is missing, or the microphone echoes
- For missing game audio, confirm the selected playback device and add an audio output source if automatic capture is not working.
- For doubled or distorted microphone audio, keep one input path: use either the physical microphone or the NVIDIA Broadcast virtual microphone, not both.
- Disable unnecessary audio monitoring and reduce input gain if levels distort.
Frames drop or the encoder overloads
- Lower output resolution or frame rate; reduce bitrate if the connection cannot sustain it.
- Cap the game’s frame rate, lower GPU-heavy settings, and remove unnecessary animated browser sources.
- Use OBS statistics to distinguish encoder or rendering overload from network frame loss, then adjust the relevant setting.
- Try a wired connection or a different ingest server if the issue is network-related.
NVIDIA Broadcast webcam or audio effects fail
- Make sure another application is not already using the camera.
- Choose the correct NVIDIA Broadcast virtual device in OBS and verify that the GPU and driver meet NVIDIA’s current requirements.
- Disable effects one at a time to identify a problematic filter; use the physical camera or microphone directly if Broadcast causes instability.
OBS Studio or Streamlabs Desktop?
Both can send a Twitch stream; neither requires an NVIDIA GPU. Twitch lists both as recommended options, but they suit different preferences.

Streamlabs Desktop has free and paid offerings; check which features you need before subscribing. NVIDIA Broadcast is a separate optional enhancement, while the NVIDIA app handles NVIDIA drivers and related GPU features.
