Samsung Galaxy phones usually do not have one universal App Lock switch. The lock is most often coming from Secure Folder, a separately installed AppLock utility, or the phone’s own screen lock. Identify which one is asking for authentication, then choose the least destructive fix: change Secure Folder’s auto-lock timing, remove one protected app, hide Secure Folder, or uninstall the responsible app.
First, identify which lock you are seeing

Also distinguish these actions:
- Hide an app: removes its icon from a Home or Apps screen but does not necessarily lock or delete it.
- Disable an app: stops an eligible preinstalled app from running. It does not disable an app lock.
- Uninstall an app: removes a downloaded application.
- Remove an app from Secure Folder: removes the protected copy inside the folder.
- Uninstall Secure Folder: removes the protected environment and can delete its contents.
If Secure Folder is causing the lock
Secure Folder is Samsung’s built-in protected area for apps and files. It has its own lock type and may use a PIN, password, pattern, or supported fingerprint. Samsung says the feature is not available on every Galaxy model.
Look for the Secure Folder icon in the Apps screen, duplicate apps inside the folder, or the following settings path:
Settings → Security and privacy → More security settings → Secure Folder

Older Galaxy phones may use wording such as Biometrics and security instead. Menu names also vary by model, One UI version, carrier, and region. See Samsung’s current Secure Folder support guide.
Change how often Secure Folder locks
If you want fewer authentication prompts rather than deleting anything, change the automatic-lock condition:
- Open Secure Folder.
- Tap More options, shown as three vertical dots.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Auto lock Secure Folder.
- Choose the least frequent option available on your phone.
This changes when Secure Folder locks automatically; it does not guarantee that authentication can be removed completely. On Samsung’s current documentation for Android 16 with One UI 8, When screen turns off is the default and the former Each time I leave an app option has been removed. Older versions and other Galaxy models may show different choices, so do not assume that every phone provides a Never option.

Remove only one app from Secure Folder
Secure Folder can contain a separate copy of an app. Removing that copy does not automatically remove the normal installation outside Secure Folder.
- Open Secure Folder and authenticate if prompted.
- Touch and hold the app you want to remove.
- Tap Select.
- Select the app or apps.
- Tap Uninstall at the bottom.
- Tap OK to confirm.
If the same app also appears on your regular Apps screen, it is a separate installation. Samsung explains this duplicate-app behavior in its Secure Folder guide.
Hide Secure Folder without deleting it
Hiding is useful if you want to keep the protected apps and files but remove the folder’s icon from the Apps screen. It does not remove the lock, delete the data, or disable Secure Folder.

- Open Settings.
- Tap Security and privacy.
- Tap More security settings.
- Tap Secure Folder.
- Turn off Add Secure Folder to Apps screen.
- Confirm the action if prompted.
Depending on your software version, you may also hide or show Secure Folder from the Quick Settings panel. If the icon disappears, search Settings for Secure Folder or check Quick Settings; it has not been uninstalled.

Warning: Uninstalling Secure Folder can remove its apps, files, and other contents. Move or export important photos, videos, documents, and other data before continuing. Samsung may offer an option to move media files out during the uninstall process, but do not assume that all content will be preserved automatically.
- Open Settings.
- Tap Security and privacy.
- Tap More security settings.
- Tap Secure Folder.
- Tap More settings.
- Tap Uninstall.
- Review the warning.
- Select the option to move media files out if it is offered.
- Confirm Uninstall.
Use this only when you are finished with Secure Folder. Hiding it is the safer choice when you want to retain its contents.

If a third-party AppLock app is responsible
If the authentication screen names AppLock, Norton App Lock, or another app you installed, Secure Folder is not controlling the lock.
- Open Settings → Apps.
- Find the app named on the lock screen or an unfamiliar app installed around the time the lock began.
- Open the app and use its own settings to turn off protection, if available.
- To remove a downloaded utility, tap Uninstall.
Some preinstalled apps cannot be uninstalled but may offer Disable. Do not disable random Samsung system packages: essential services may be required for calling, security, updates, or other device functions. Forgot the Secure Folder PIN, password, or pattern?
Secure Folder recovery depends on whether Reset with Samsung account was enabled beforehand.
- Open Secure Folder.
- Enter an incorrect credential, or the one you believe is correct.
- Look for a reset option.
- If shown, use the linked Samsung account to reset the Secure Folder credential.
If the reset option was not enabled previously, Samsung says this recovery route is unavailable. Uninstalling Secure Folder may be the remaining documented option, but it can delete the folder’s contents. Do not start with a factory reset: it erases the entire phone and is disproportionate to a Secure Folder setting problem.
When Secure Folder is missing or the menu looks different
- Search Settings: Search for “Secure Folder” instead of relying on the icon.
- Check Quick Settings: The folder may be hidden from the Apps screen.
- Confirm compatibility: Unsupported Galaxy devices may not show Secure Folder in Security and privacy settings.
- Check software updates: Install available phone and app updates.
- Restart the phone: This can clear temporary settings or launcher problems.
- Check the prompt’s wording: An unfamiliar app name points to a third-party AppLock utility, not Secure Folder.
- Contact Samsung: Use Samsung Members or Samsung Support if the feature should be available but the settings are absent or malfunctioning.
The exact path can differ between Android and One UI releases. Samsung’s Secure Folder troubleshooting guidance includes update and restart checks.
