Playing a game on your iPhone or Android phone? Discord does not currently document a general feature that automatically detects games running on the phone itself. The dependable option is to enter the game name manually as a Custom Status. If your game is running on a PC or supported console instead, Discord may be able to share that activity automatically.
Set a game as your Custom Status
A Custom Status is text you choose, so it works for any mobile game and does not depend on Discord recognizing the app. For example, you could write 🎮 Playing Call of Duty: Mobile or Playing Pokémon GO.
- Open Discord on your phone.
- Long-press your profile icon in the lower-right corner. Depending on your app layout, you can also tap the icon and choose Add Status.
- Tap Set a custom status.
- Enter the game name and, if you like, add an emoji.
- Choose a duration under Status Duration, then tap Save in the upper-right corner.
Custom Statuses expire after one day by default, but you can choose a shorter or longer duration. A shorter duration is useful for a one-off gaming session: it reduces the chance that your profile will still say you are playing after you have stopped. The status is manual text, not a live indicator, and will not change when you switch games.
Discord’s Custom Status instructions cover the mobile setup and duration options. The basic feature does not require Nitro; Nitro may matter for optional custom server emoji.

Edit or remove the status
To change the game name, long-press your profile icon and tap the current Custom Status or Edit Status. Update the text and save. To clear it, open the same menu and tap the X beside the status. If you do not see these exact labels, try tapping the profile icon and looking for the status option; Discord’s mobile layout and labels can vary slightly.
Can Discord automatically detect an iPhone or Android game?
Discord’s current Activity Sharing documentation lists detectable games played on a computer, Xbox, and PlayStation, along with connected services and Discord Activities. It does not describe a general way to detect unrelated games running directly on an iPhone or Android phone. So do not rely on a mobile setting called Game Activity or Registered Games to make every phone game appear automatically.

Discord Activities are different: they are games or interactive experiences launched inside Discord, such as through the App Launcher or voice-call controls. They are not a way for Discord to detect whichever separate mobile game you have open. See Discord’s guide to using apps on Discord.

You can use Discord on your phone while a game running elsewhere is shared as activity. Whether it appears depends on Discord detecting the game or receiving activity from the connected platform, as well as your account and privacy settings. Opening Discord on your phone alone does not make it detect a game running on that same phone.

If supported activity is missing, check the relevant sharing controls. Discord provides a global Share my activity setting, default sharing choices for friends and servers, per-server controls, and controls for individual connections. On supported clients, game-level detection controls are available under Registered Games. All relevant settings must allow sharing for other people to see the activity. Menu locations can differ by platform; use the Discord client or console integration where the game is running to check its settings.

- If you set a Custom Status: confirm that you saved it and that its duration has not expired. Open your profile to check that the text is still there.
- Check where you are looking: the display can differ between a member list, a DM or group chat, and the full profile. Discord says a Custom Status can take precedence over other activity statuses in server member lists and friends lists within DMs and group chats, while activity may still appear on the full profile.
- If the activity should be automatic: confirm that Share my activity and the relevant server, connection, or game controls allow it. Also confirm that the game is running on a supported platform and that its account or client integration is active.
- Consider visibility: activity sharing is separate from your online status. Who can see an activity depends on sharing permissions, relationships, shared servers, and the surface in Discord. Regional restrictions or age-assurance requirements may also affect activity-sharing controls.
- Check for layout changes: if neither mobile route to Custom Status appears, update Discord from the App Store or Google Play and look in the profile/account menu rather than server settings.
Discord activity can appear on profiles, activity cards, and—in some circumstances—server member lists. The mobile app also has an Active Now area that can show friends’ games or other supported Rich Presence activities. Its exact presentation and availability can vary. A Custom Status may be visible beyond the particular friend you had in mind, so avoid putting private or sensitive information in it.
Custom Status, activity, and profile widgets are not the same

Discord says its Profile Board widgets, including Currently Playing, are currently available on desktop and browser, not mobile, and are manually curated rather than automatically updated from real-time activity. Separately, Recently Played Games is an experiment limited to a small percentage of users; it concerns recent games and does not guarantee a live “currently playing” label. Neither feature is a dependable replacement for a mobile Custom Status.
