The most reliable way to share a WordPress post is to use several channels together: give readers the post’s permanent URL, distribute it through social networks, email subscribers when it is published, and keep an RSS feed available for people who prefer reader-controlled updates. Each channel reaches a different audience and has different setup and maintenance requirements.

Share new posts automatically with Jetpack Social

Jetpack Social can automatically share a newly published WordPress post, let you share a post manually, schedule a re-share, and promote an older published post again. Saving a draft does not trigger a social share.

Connect the networks you use

Jetpack Social lists Facebook, Instagram, Threads, LinkedIn, Tumblr, Mastodon, Nextdoor, and Bluesky as connectable networks. Twitter/X is not supported. The available connections and controls can change with your hosting arrangement and WordPress plan.

Turn on auto-sharing in the editor

  1. Open the post in the WordPress block editor.
  2. Open the Jetpack or Social panel.
  3. Select the connected networks that should receive the post.
  4. Enable Auto-share post.
  5. Optionally write a custom social message and choose an image.
  6. Publish the post.

On self-hosted sites with Jetpack and on WordPress.com Atomic sites, administrators can use the auto-sharing toggle. On WordPress.com Simple sites, auto-sharing is always on and cannot be turned off. If you do not see the same controls, check which hosting type and plan your site uses.

Prepare the post for a good social preview

Add a featured image before publishing. Jetpack recommends one so social platforms have an appropriate image to display. Use a descriptive title and verify the canonical post URL before you publish; the shared link should lead to the page readers are meant to visit.

Share an existing post again

For an evergreen article, go to Posts → All Posts, open the published post, and use its Social panel to share or schedule it. Rewrite the social message so the new share gives readers a current reason to click instead of repeating the original wording.

Standard posts and pages are supported by default. Custom post types need additional support, so test a custom post type before relying on automatic distribution.

Notify subscribers by email with Jetpack Newsletter

Jetpack Newsletter turns post publishing into an email notification for people who have subscribed. This gives readers a direct route back to your site without depending on whether a social network places the post in their feed.

Add a subscription form

  1. Insert the Subscribe block where readers can find it, such as your sidebar, footer, or below an article.
  2. Use the documented subscription shortcode instead if your theme or editor requires it.
  3. Customize the form’s invitation and confirmation text.
  4. Confirm which newsletter recipients are selected.

Review delivery before publishing

Use Jetpack’s newsletter settings to preview the message and control whether new posts are emailed by default. Treat consent and unsubscribe controls as required parts of the setup: readers should clearly opt in and have a straightforward way to stop receiving messages. Check the current delivery settings in the Jetpack dashboard, especially after changing your site or plan.

Offer RSS for reader-controlled updates

RSS is a machine-readable version of a website or blog’s content. Readers can add your feed to the feed reader they prefer, so they decide how often to check updates rather than relying on a social algorithm or an email inbox.

Make the feed easy to find

Add a clear link to your site’s feed from a page such as “Ways to follow us.” You can also use the WordPress RSS block to paste a feed URL into a page or post, which is useful for displaying a curated feed section or explaining where readers can subscribe.

Use WordPress.com Reader as another subscription path

WordPress.com Reader combines public WordPress.com sites with WordPress.org sites connected through Jetpack. Readers can add sites, newsletters, and RSS feeds to their subscriptions, then share a post or copy its link from Reader. This is most convenient for people who already use a WordPress.com account and its subscription interface.

A repeatable publishing workflow

  1. Write for sharing: choose a specific, descriptive title and add a suitable featured image.
  2. Check the destination: confirm the canonical URL and that the published page is accessible to readers.
  3. Review social distribution: in the Social panel, confirm the selected networks and the auto-share setting.
  4. Publish: remember that saving a draft does not send a Jetpack Social share.
  5. Send the newsletter: preview the Jetpack Newsletter message and verify recipients and default send behavior.
  6. Expose RSS: make sure readers can discover the feed from your site.
  7. Extend evergreen reach: reopen an older post from Posts → All Posts, update its social message, and schedule or send a Jetpack Social re-share.

Troubleshoot common sharing problems

The auto-share option is missing

  • Check whether the site is self-hosted with Jetpack, WordPress.com Atomic, or WordPress.com Simple; the controls differ.
  • Confirm that you are signed in as an administrator where the toggle requires administrator access.
  • Verify that at least one supported social account is connected.
  • If the content is a custom post type, check whether it has the additional support required for Jetpack Social.

A draft did not appear on social media

That is expected. Jetpack Social shares when the post is published, not when a draft is saved. Publish the post or open an already published post and share it from the Social panel.

The social preview looks wrong

Set a featured image and review the title, message, and destination URL in the Social panel before publishing. The network may still apply its own preview rules after receiving the share.

Subscribers did not receive an email

  • Confirm that the reader completed the subscription process and is included among the selected newsletter recipients.
  • Check whether new-post emails are enabled by default in Jetpack Newsletter.
  • Preview the message and review current delivery settings in the Jetpack dashboard.
  • Remind readers that subscription messages include an unsubscribe control and may be filtered by their email provider.

Readers cannot find the RSS feed

Place the feed link on a clearly labeled follow or subscription page, and consider adding the RSS block with the feed URL so visitors see that option alongside email and social links.
