On an iPhone running the current iOS interface, open Settings → Apps → FaceTime → Caller ID and select the phone number or email address you want to use for outgoing FaceTime calls. This is separate from Settings → Apps → Phone → Show My Caller ID, which applies to regular cellular calls.
What FaceTime Caller ID changes
FaceTime Caller ID chooses the phone number or eligible Apple Account email address used as your identity when you make an outgoing FaceTime call. It does not change your legal name, account owner name, phone number, or email address. A recipient may see a different name or label depending on their Contacts and caller-identification services.
Keep the outgoing identity separate from incoming reachability: the addresses selected under You Can Be Reached by FaceTime At are ways other people can call you; Caller ID is the address or number used when you call them.

Apple’s current guides use the iOS 26 interface. On older iOS versions, FaceTime may appear directly in Settings rather than beneath Apps. Apple’s iPhone FaceTime guide and iPhone phone-settings guide document the separate controls.

Change FaceTime Caller ID on iPhone
- Open Settings.
- Tap Apps, then FaceTime.
- Turn FaceTime on if it is off. Sign in with your Apple Account if prompted.
- Under You Can Be Reached by FaceTime At, select or clear the numbers and email addresses you want available for incoming FaceTime calls.
- Under Caller ID, tap the phone number or email address you want recipients to see for new outgoing FaceTime calls.
The change selects the identity FaceTime uses for later outgoing calls; it does not rewrite an existing call or change a recipient’s saved contact entry. An iPhone can use FaceTime with only its phone number, without an Apple Account. Signing in with an Apple Account can make eligible associated email addresses available too; the actual choices depend on account setup and number activation.
Set the outgoing FaceTime identity on Mac
- Open the FaceTime app.
- Choose FaceTime → Settings, then click General.
- Under Start new calls from, select the phone number or email address you want to use.
The Mac also has You can be reached for FaceTime at for incoming calls. Apple says the outgoing selector appears when more than one eligible address or number is associated with FaceTime. If an address or number is missing, add and verify it at the Apple Account website under Personal Information → Email and Phone Numbers, then return to FaceTime. Set up FaceTime on iPad
- Open Settings → Apps → FaceTime.
- Turn FaceTime on and sign in to your Apple Account if asked.
- Select the phone number and email addresses you want available under the reachable-by-FaceTime section.
Apple’s current iPad setup guide explains enabling FaceTime and selecting reachable addresses; it does not document an outgoing Caller ID selector identical to iPhone’s. If the iPad does not offer the identity you expect, first verify that the number is activated and associated with FaceTime on the iPhone. Choose a phone number or email address

Changing your Apple Account’s primary email is generally unnecessary just to change FaceTime Caller ID. That broader account change can affect how people contact you through FaceTime, Messages, and other Apple services; see Apple’s guidance on changing the primary Apple Account email.

Use your iPhone number on Mac or iPad
To use an iPhone number with FaceTime on another Apple device, the number must be active and properly associated with the same Apple Account. Check the iPhone first, then enable that number on the Mac or iPad:
- On iPhone, open Settings → Apps → Messages → Send & Receive. Confirm iMessage is on and the phone number and Apple Account are selected.
- Open Settings → Apps → FaceTime and confirm the number and Apple Account are selected there.
- Sign in to FaceTime on the Mac or iPad using the same Apple Account, then enable the number among the reachable addresses.
- On Mac, choose the number under FaceTime → Settings → General → Start new calls from if you want it as the outgoing identity.
Apple’s setup guidance for using an iPhone number with Messages and FaceTime is at Apple Support. Do not share one Apple Account with another person to make identities match: account sharing can expose Messages conversations. Apple recommends separate accounts and Family Sharing where appropriate.

Troubleshoot a missing or incorrect identity
- FaceTime is off or not signed in: Enable FaceTime and confirm the intended Apple Account is in use.
- The number is missing on Mac or iPad: Confirm it is selected in both iPhone Messages’ Send & Receive and FaceTime settings, and that the other device uses the same Apple Account.
- The SIM or eSIM is inactive, or the number changed: The number may not be available for activation. Verify the active line and allow any FaceTime activation to complete.
- An email address is missing: Make sure it is associated with the Apple Account and verified.
- Setup still fails: Check for operating-system updates, restart the affected device and FaceTime, and recheck the setting after activation. Availability can vary by carrier and region.
- An unfamiliar former owner’s number appears: Do not select it. Check the Apple Account’s associated numbers and trusted devices. If the number belongs to an iPhone you no longer control, Apple advises changing the Apple Account password.
Check account consistency and activation before signing out of Apple services; signing out prematurely can disrupt syncing without addressing the cause. The selected FaceTime identity is not the same as the name a recipient’s device displays. Their Contacts entry, your Name and Photo Sharing settings, or caller-identification services can affect the label. First confirm the call is actually a FaceTime call and that the intended number or email is selected; Messages has separate Send & Receive and Start New Conversations From controls.

Also distinguish FaceTime from an ordinary iPhone call relayed through a Mac or iPad. Regular cellular calls use the Phone app’s Show My Caller ID setting, whose availability may depend on the carrier. For calls from iPhone on other Apple devices, see Apple’s calls-on-other-devices setup guide.
