Google Weather Frog, also called Froggy, is not a standalone app. The most reliable way to use it today is on a compatible Google Nest Hub or Nest Hub Max through the display’s Photo Frame settings. On Android, Froggy may still appear in Google’s older weather experience, but availability is inconsistent as Google changes that interface. Google does not currently document a reliable Weather Frog setup control for iPhone or iPad.
What is Google Weather Frog?
Google Weather Frog is an animated weather presentation featuring Froggy. Its scenes change according to conditions such as weather and time of day. On Nest displays, it works as a Photo Frame source; historically, it also appeared in Google’s fullscreen weather experience on Android.
It is not a normal downloadable app with a universal installation package. That distinction matters because the setup depends on the device and Google interface you are using.

Google’s current supported setup uses Photo Frame. The feature is documented for Google Nest Hub and Nest Hub Max displays, although menu placement and availability can vary with software, account, region, or rollout.

Using the Google Home app
- Open the Google Home app.
- Tap Home, then All devices.
- Touch and hold your Nest Hub or Nest Hub Max tile.
- Tap Settings.
- Open Photo Frame.
- Find Google Weather Frog and select Show.
Froggy should appear when the display is idle. Depending on your Photo Frame configuration, it may appear alongside personal photos rather than replacing every other source.
Google notes that some Photo Frame and experimental options can change or disappear. If you do not see the setting, it may not currently be exposed for your display or account. See Google’s Photo Frame instructions for the current controls.
Using the Nest display itself
- Swipe up from the bottom of the Nest display.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Photo Frame.
- Set Google Weather Frog to Show.
Fix the weather location on a Nest display
Nest’s Photo Frame weather is based on the home address configured in Google Home. If Froggy shows the wrong city, check the address for the Google Home that contains the display.

Open Google Home, select the relevant home, and review its home address in the home settings. Also confirm that the Nest display belongs to the correct home rather than another household or location. Google documents the address dependency in its Nest Photo Frame help page.

Try Weather Frog on Android
Android does not have a dependable, officially documented Weather Frog switch that works across all phones. You can still check whether your Google account and device receive the older weather interface:
- Open the Google app or Google Search.
- Search for weather.
- Open the weather result.
- Check whether the Froggy-style page appears.
- If it does, open the three-dot menu and look for Add to home screen or Add shortcut.
Only create a shortcut if Google offers the option. This is a conditional workaround, not a guaranteed feature. Google’s official documentation covers weather widgets and Discover settings, but does not promise that every Android user will receive the Weather Frog interface. You generally need to be signed in to a Google Account, and Discover may need to be enabled; see Google’s weather and Google app guidance.
The older Android weather page has also been changing. A March 2026 report from 9to5Google described a staged server-side replacement of the older experience associated with Google app version 17.8. As a result, instructions that worked in older tutorials may no longer work on your phone.
Pixel Weather is not the same as Weather Frog
Pixel 6 and newer phones, as well as Pixel Tablet, have Google’s documented Pixel Weather experience. It provides conventional weather tools such as forecasts, saved locations, weather maps, air quality, humidity, pollen information, and notifications.

Pixel Weather is separate from the older Google Search weather presentation that sometimes included Froggy. Google’s current Pixel documentation does not identify Weather Frog as a Pixel Weather setting. Changing Pixel Weather permissions, units, or notifications therefore will not necessarily restore Froggy.

Can you set up Weather Frog on iPhone?
Google does not currently document a reliable user-controlled Weather Frog setting for the Google app on iPhone or iPad. You may still see a Google weather result in the app or a browser, but that does not guarantee the Froggy interface.

Older community reports describe inconsistent iPhone availability, so there is no dependable iOS procedure to recommend. Avoid treating unofficial frog-weather apps, wallpaper apps, or cloned downloads as Google Weather Frog.

Why Weather Frog is missing
The option is missing from Nest Photo Frame
- Confirm that the device is a Nest Hub or Nest Hub Max.
- Make sure the display is online and appears in the correct Google Home.
- Update the Google Home app.
- Open the device’s Photo Frame settings directly.
- Check whether Google Weather Frog appears under an experimental section.
- Reboot the display and check again.
- Verify the Google Home address.
If the setting remains absent, Google may not currently expose it for that device, account, region, or software rollout. A factory reset should not be your first troubleshooting step.
Searching for weather opens Pixel Weather
You are probably seeing Google’s newer Pixel weather product rather than the older Search weather page. They are separate experiences, and Pixel Weather is not documented as a way to restore Froggy.
An old Android shortcut stopped working
Google can change a shortcut’s destination through an app update or server-side redesign. Delete the old shortcut, run a fresh search for weather, and check whether Google offers a new shortcut. This may not restore the old interface permanently.
The frog appears, but the weather is wrong
Check the Google Home address for a Nest display. On Android or Pixel, check location permission and any saved city or location. Also verify that you are not viewing a different saved location.

Turn Weather Frog off
On Nest Hub or Nest Hub Max
- Open Google Home.
- Touch and hold the Nest display tile.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Photo Frame.
- Set Google Weather Frog to Hide, or choose another Photo Frame source.
You can also swipe up on the display, open Settings, choose Photo Frame, and change the Weather Frog setting there.
On Android
Remove the Weather Frog or weather shortcut from your home screen. This removes the shortcut only; it does not remove Google’s underlying weather service.

The bottom line
If you have a Nest Hub or Nest Hub Max, use Photo Frame → Google Weather Frog → Show. That is the clearest current setup path. On Android, Froggy is now an account- and rollout-dependent remnant of Google’s changing weather interface, not a feature you can reliably install. On Pixel phones, Pixel Weather is the current documented product, and on iPhone there is no verified official control for enabling Weather Frog.
