The fastest way to create a Google Meet link is to open Google Meet, choose New meeting, select Create a meeting for later, then copy and share the link. If the call has a fixed time, guests and reminders, add Meet to a Google Calendar event instead.
Choose the right way to create your link

You must be signed in to a Google Account to create a meeting or add Meet to a Calendar event. A recipient may be able to join without a Google Account, but organization rules and host admission controls can require sign-in or approval (Google account and access requirements).
Create a Google Meet link on a computer
Create a link for later
- Go to meet.google.com.
- Click New meeting.
- Choose Create a meeting for later.
- Click Copy meeting link (or copy the meeting details).
- Paste the URL into an email, text, messaging app, learning-management system or another calendar invitation.
To use it immediately, paste the address into a browser or into Meet’s Enter a code or link box and click Join.
Start an instant meeting
- Open Google Meet and select New meeting.
- Choose Start an instant meeting.
- After you join, use the meeting’s sharing or invitation controls to copy the link or send an invitation.
This is convenient for an unplanned call, but it does not provide the reminders, agenda and guest list of a Calendar event.

Schedule a Meet link with Google Calendar
- Open Google Calendar and create a new event.
- Enter the title, date, time, guests and any description or agenda.
- Select Add Google Meet video conferencing.
- Save the event and send invitations.
The event contains the joining link and, for some Google Workspace editions, dial-in information. Calendar is usually the best choice for classes, interviews, appointments, recurring meetings and work calls because it handles reminders and time zones. A standalone Meet URL does not automatically create a calendar appointment. Google Workspace Essentials users cannot use the ordinary Calendar event workflow to schedule Meet meetings.
Create or send a link through Gmail or Google Chat
Gmail on the web
- Open Gmail and expand Meet in the left sidebar.
- Click New meeting.
- Choose Send invite.
- Select Copy meeting invite or Share via email.
Labels differ slightly by account and interface. The first time you join, your browser may ask for camera and microphone permission.
Google Chat
In Google Chat or Chat inside Gmail, open a direct or group conversation, select the Google Workspace tools icon in the compose box, choose Send a Meet link, and send the message. Workspace Business and Enterprise accounts may also show the option in conversation controls. Availability varies by account type.

Create a link on Android
- Open the Google Meet app.
- Tap New, then Create link.
- Tap Copy to copy the URL or Share to send it through another app.
- Tap Join meeting if you want to enter immediately.
For a scheduled call, choose New → Schedule. Meet opens Google Calendar, where you can edit the title, time and guests before saving. Mobile labels can vary by language, account and app version.
How to share the invitation
Paste the link into email, SMS, a group chat, Slack, Teams or a classroom system, or send the complete Copy meeting invite text. The full invitation can include the meeting name and dial-in details, which is more useful than a bare URL for formal appointments.
Share privately with intended participants. A guest can forward a link, so possession of the URL does not necessarily mean the person was on the original guest list. Depending on the meeting and organization, an uninvited person may have to request admission.

How participants join
- Open the link from the invitation.
- Check the selected camera and microphone and allow browser or app permissions when prompted.
- Click or tap Join (or Ask to join).
- Wait for the host or an authorized participant to admit you if the meeting requires approval.
For personal-account meetings, Google says the creator may need to admit certain uninvited participants. School and business administrators can impose additional restrictions.
When a Meet link is not working
“New meeting” is missing
- Confirm that you are signed in to the intended Google Account.
- Open Meet directly instead of through Gmail or Chat.
- Update your browser or Meet app, then try again.
- Use Google Calendar if you need a scheduled event.
- Ask your Workspace administrator whether Meet is enabled.
Administrators, Workspace edition limits, age restrictions, client-side encryption and staged feature availability can make a control unavailable or disabled (Google’s feature and limit guidance).
Guests cannot join
- Send the complete, current invitation and check that the URL was not truncated.
- Have the guest use the link in the current Calendar event, not an old message.
- Check whether the guest is waiting for admission or is signed in to the wrong account.
- For school or company meetings, confirm that external participants are allowed.
- If the code was replaced, create a fresh link and resend it.
Camera or microphone problems
Allow permissions, select the correct devices, close other apps using the camera, and rejoin after changing browser permissions. Test the hardware before sending a meeting invitation.

Apple Calendar or another calendar app changed the code
When possible, create the meeting in Google Calendar. Google warns that Apple Calendar and other third-party calendar integrations can generate a new Meet code for privacy and security, leaving an older invitation unusable.

Basic Meet access is available with consumer Google Accounts and Google Workspace, but participant limits, meeting duration, recording and administration depend on the account and edition. Google documents basic meetings of up to 100 participants; consumer meetings with three or more participants are generally limited to one hour, while one-to-one meetings can last up to 24 hours. Some paid Workspace editions support more participants, longer meetings and recording. Check current limits and the official Workspace pricing page for your region rather than assuming every account has the same features.

Keep your Meet link secure
- Do not post a private link on a public webpage.
- Use Calendar guest controls and host-management settings for sensitive meetings.
- Review the participant list before admitting people.
- Remember that a Meet code is not guaranteed to be permanent; check Google’s expiration guidance.
- Prefer the current Calendar invitation if an event was edited or recreated.
Meeting-code lifetime and controls vary. A link created through one calendar system may not behave like a permanently reusable room.

Can I create a Meet link without scheduling a meeting?
Yes. Choose Create a meeting for later in Meet; this produces a URL without creating a Calendar event.
Can someone join without a Google Account?
Sometimes. The host’s access policy, organization settings and admission controls determine whether a guest can enter without signing in.
Can I reuse the same Meet link?
Do not assume it will work forever. Codes can expire or be replaced, particularly when a third-party calendar app is involved.

Editing or recreating an event, or using Apple Calendar and another third-party integration, can generate a new code. Send the latest invitation.
What is the difference between an instant and scheduled meeting?
An instant meeting starts now and lets you invite people from the active call. A scheduled meeting adds a fixed time, guests, reminders and event information through Calendar.
