Yes, you can test a 16GB ReBAR size limit on an RTX 3060 12GB—but it does not add VRAM, and it is not a guaranteed performance upgrade. First confirm that Resizable BAR is already working at the BIOS, GPU VBIOS, and driver level. Then back up your NVIDIA profiles, apply the setting only to a specific game, and benchmark it. Revert the change if performance, stability, texture streaming, or frame times get worse.
What “16GB ReBAR” actually means
An RTX 3060 12GB still has 12GB of physical VRAM after this change. Setting rBAR – Size Limit to 16GB does not upgrade the card or create additional memory.
Resizable BAR is a PCI Express feature that allows the CPU to access a larger range of GPU memory instead of working through a small traditional address window. NVIDIA’s driver profiles can also define a maximum BAR aperture for individual applications. That profile value is a ceiling for the BAR space a game may use; it is not the amount of VRAM the game automatically consumes.

A game may allocate less than 16GB, may never use the larger limit, or may perform worse with an experimental profile override. NVIDIA reports that ReBAR improves performance in some games but can reduce it in others.

NVIDIA’s ReBAR overview and its support requirements explain the platform feature and its game-dependent behavior.
Is 16GB appropriate for an RTX 3060 12GB?
Not automatically. The value may be accepted by NVIDIA Profile Inspector even though the card has 12GB of physical VRAM, but whether it produces a useful result depends on the game, driver, BIOS, GPU VBIOS, and Profile Inspector build.
Think of the two numbers as different things:
- 12GB: the RTX 3060’s physical framebuffer capacity.
- 16GB: a driver-profile BAR size limit or address-space setting.
- VRAM usage: what the game actually allocates and uses during play.
There is no universal “correct maximum” of 16GB for every RTX 3060. Treat it as a per-game experiment, not a specification or upgrade.

Before changing Profile Inspector: confirm that ReBAR works
Profile Inspector edits NVIDIA’s application profiles. It cannot enable ReBAR if the motherboard firmware, GPU VBIOS, boot mode, or driver does not support it.
NVIDIA’s usual platform requirements are:
- A desktop RTX 3060 with compatible VBIOS support.
- A motherboard and firmware that support Resizable BAR.
- UEFI boot mode.
- Above 4G Decoding enabled in firmware.
- Resizable BAR or Re-Size BAR Support enabled.
- CSM disabled.
- A GPT system disk where required by the platform configuration.
- A current compatible NVIDIA driver.
To check the feature in Windows:
- Open NVIDIA Control Panel.
- Open Help and choose System Information, or select the System Information link in the lower-left corner if that is how your layout displays it.
- Find Resizable BAR.
- Confirm that it says Yes.
If NVIDIA Control Panel reports No, stop before editing a profile. Recheck the motherboard settings, UEFI boot mode, CSM, GPT configuration, GPU VBIOS, and driver. NVIDIA’s original RTX 3060 guidance listed driver 461.72 or newer, but that is a historical rollout minimum—not a reason to install an old driver today. Use a current compatible Game Ready or Studio driver instead.
Be careful when changing boot settings. If disabling CSM prevents Windows from starting, restore the previous configuration. Do not convert a disk or modify firmware without a full backup and a clear recovery plan.
Back up your NVIDIA profiles
Download NVIDIA Profile Inspector only from its official GitHub repository or its Releases page. The project is actively changing, so the current interface and setting definitions may differ from screenshots or older guides.

nvidiaProfileInspector.exeas administrator. Administrator privileges are required to write changes to NVIDIA’s driver-profile database. - Export the global profile or all customized profiles.
- Save the resulting
.nipbackup somewhere outside the extracted program folder. - Record your installed NVIDIA driver version.
Profile Inspector supports exporting and importing .nip backups. This gives you a straightforward way to restore the previous state if the setting causes a problem or a driver update replaces the profile database.

How to set rBAR – Size Limit to 16GB
- Select the game profile. Use the profile search box and select the game’s existing profile. If it is missing, add the game’s actual executable or create a profile for it.
- Search for the ReBAR entries. Search for
rebar,rBAR, orSize Limit. Depending on the build, the entries may appear with names such as rBAR – Feature, rBAR – Options, and rBAR – Size Limit. - Change only the size limit. Open rBAR – Size Limit and choose the value visibly labelled 16GB, if your installed build provides that option.
- Apply the profile. Click Apply changes, then close Profile Inspector.
- Test the game. Use the same scene, benchmark, or repeatable route you used for the baseline measurement.
Do not blindly paste a hexadecimal value from another guide. Community documentation contains conflicting mappings for raw values, and the available value list can change between Profile Inspector builds. If your version displays only hexadecimal values, verify that build’s mapping before changing anything. If you cannot verify it, leave the setting unchanged or use a build that visibly labels the option as 16GB.
Leave the other ReBAR fields alone
Do not automatically change rBAR – Feature or rBAR – Options. Those fields control other parts of the driver-profile behavior, and forcing them globally can affect unrelated games.
For a controlled test, change only rBAR – Size Limit in one game profile. A global override makes it harder to identify which game is affected and may cause regressions across the system.

Do not judge the result from one FPS reading or a single short run. Record a baseline before changing the profile, then repeat the same test afterward.
| Measure | What to look for |
|---|---|
| Average FPS | Overall performance change. |
| 1% lows and frame times | Stutter, traversal hitches, and consistency. |
| GPU utilization | Whether the workload or bottleneck changed. |
| VRAM allocation and usage | Memory pressure or unexpected texture-streaming behavior. |
| Loading and traversal | Changes during asset streaming or movement through demanding areas. |
| Stability and image quality | Crashes, missing textures, corruption, or visual glitches. |
Run several repeatable passes under the same resolution, quality settings, driver, background applications, and power configuration. A small difference may be normal run-to-run variation. Keep the setting only if the improvement is repeatable and does not introduce instability.
NVIDIA’s launch testing found gains ranging from a few percent to as much as 12% in selected titles, while also recording regressions. Those figures are historical NVIDIA testing, not a prediction for every RTX 3060 system in 2026.
How to revert the change
If the game crashes, stutters, loses textures, or performs worse:
- Reopen Profile Inspector as administrator.
- Return rBAR – Size Limit to its previous value, or import your saved
.nipbackup. - If you changed a global profile, restore the global backup and remove any unnecessary per-game overrides.
- Restart the game and repeat the same benchmark.
- If the issue affects multiple applications and profile restoration does not resolve it, reinstall the NVIDIA driver using the installer’s clean-install option.
Restoring a known-good profile is preferable to deleting random registry keys or running unofficial “ReBAR enabler” scripts.

Troubleshooting
The rBAR – Size Limit entry is missing
Possible causes include a changed settings-definition file, a different display mode, a profile database loading problem, or a regression in the current build. The Profile Inspector project’s issue tracker includes reports of the entry disappearing in some versions. Its absence does not by itself prove that your GPU lacks ReBAR.
Try restarting the tool as administrator, searching for rebar rather than only the full setting name, and checking the project’s current release information. Do not substitute an arbitrary registry value.
The option exists, but 16GB is not listed
Do not paste a hexadecimal value copied from an unrelated article. Value lists and metadata can change between builds, and community reports do not agree on every raw encoding. Use a build with a verified, visibly labelled 16GB option or leave the profile at its previous value.

Profile Inspector is not the first fix. Recheck the GPU VBIOS, motherboard BIOS, Above 4G Decoding, ReBAR toggle, CSM, UEFI boot mode, GPT configuration, and NVIDIA driver. Until Control Panel reports Yes, do not treat a profile override as working ReBAR.
The game crashes or performance gets worse
Restore the old value or import the .nip backup. ReBAR behavior is title-specific; NVIDIA has documented both improvements and regressions. A lower FPS result is a valid reason not to use the override.
The setting disappears after a driver update
Driver updates can replace or rebuild profile databases. Export customized profiles before major updates, then inspect the game profile again afterward. Reapply the setting only if the current driver and Profile Inspector build expose it correctly and your benchmark still justifies it.

For most users, the recommended configuration is simply to enable ReBAR in compatible motherboard firmware, install a current NVIDIA driver, and let NVIDIA’s game profiles determine how supported titles use it.
If a game reacts badly to 16GB, you can test a smaller option such as 1GB, 2GB, 4GB, 8GB, or 12GB—but only when that value is visibly defined by your installed tool. None is universally optimal.

Verdict
Setting rBAR – Size Limit to 16GB is reasonable as a controlled, per-game experiment on an RTX 3060 12GB when NVIDIA Control Panel already reports ReBAR as enabled. It is not a VRAM upgrade, not guaranteed to improve FPS, and not something to force globally. Back up the profile, use the decoded 16GB option shown by your own Profile Inspector build, benchmark carefully, and revert it if the result is not clearly better.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does setting ReBAR to 16GB give an RTX 3060 16GB of VRAM?
No. The RTX 3060 remains a 12GB card. The setting changes a driver-profile BAR limit, not the physical framebuffer capacity.
Should I apply the 16GB value globally?
No. Use a specific game profile for testing. A global override can affect unrelated games and make regressions difficult to diagnose.
Is NVIDIA Profile Inspector an official NVIDIA tool?
No. It is a community project for editing NVIDIA driver profiles. NVIDIA Control Panel and motherboard firmware should be used for normal ReBAR activation and verification.
Can ReBAR reduce performance?
Yes. NVIDIA has documented both gains and regressions, so compare repeatable before-and-after results for each game.
What should I do if the game crashes?
Restore the previous size-limit value or import the saved `.nip` profile backup, then retest with the default configuration.
