The simplest route is to install a WordPress ticketing plugin such as Event Tickets, connect a supported payment account, add tickets or RSVPs to an event page, and use the plugin’s attendee tools for confirmations and check-in. If your site already runs WooCommerce, Event Tickets Plus provides the documented integration with WooCommerce’s checkout and order workflow.
Choose the WordPress setup your event needs
First decide whether you need only ticket sales and RSVPs or a complete, browsable event calendar.
Tickets and RSVPs without a calendar
Event Tickets can add tickets or RSVPs to supported WordPress content, such as an event page, post, or other content type supported by your configuration. Its free Tickets Commerce flow supports payments through connected Stripe and PayPal accounts. Availability can depend on your country, processor account, and configuration, so confirm eligibility before announcing sales.

A calendar plus ticketing
The Events Calendar supplies calendar functionality, while Event Tickets supplies ticket and RSVP features. They can be used together, but do not assume that every calendar or ticketing feature is included in the free plugin.

A WooCommerce-centered store
Event Tickets Plus is the documented requirement for the WooCommerce integration. It lets ticket sales use WooCommerce’s familiar checkout, order processing, and store administration. The Events Calendar’s setup documentation explicitly warns: “Do NOT go to WooCommerce > Products and create products to create a ticket.” Create tickets through the ticketing plugin’s event workflow instead.

The 2% figures are the vendor’s documented arrangement accessed in 2026 and may change. Check current plugin and processor terms immediately before setting prices. A complete total-cost comparison also needs the current Event Tickets Plus price, WooCommerce costs, and your processor’s rates.

Set up tickets step by step
- Prepare WordPress. Confirm that WordPress, your theme, and any required extensions are maintained. Decide whether the event will be a page, post, or calendar event, and whether you need WooCommerce.
- Install the ticketing plugin. Install Event Tickets from the WordPress dashboard, then open its settings and select the commerce method that matches your route. If you need WooCommerce, install and activate Event Tickets Plus and WooCommerce before configuring the integration.
- Connect payments. In the commerce settings, connect the supported Stripe or PayPal account for Tickets Commerce, or configure the payment gateway in WooCommerce. Complete any account verification and confirm that your business and country are eligible.
- Create the event content. Publish the event’s date, time, location or access instructions, capacity, refund terms, and contact information. If you use The Events Calendar, create the calendar event there; otherwise select the page or post where the ticket block will appear.
- Add a ticket or RSVP. Use the Event Tickets controls on the event content to create each ticket type. Set its name, price, quantity or capacity, sale dates, and any required attendee information. Create separate ticket types when prices or access rights differ.
- Configure attendee communications. Review the ticket email settings, sender address, confirmation wording, event details, and any instructions attendees need after purchase. Add registration fields only for information you will actually use.
- Publish and review the customer view. Check the event page on desktop and mobile. Confirm that ticket availability, prices, dates, currency, tax or fee presentation, and the checkout button are correct before promoting the event.
Test the complete buyer-to-attendee journey
Run a controlled transaction before opening sales. Use the payment provider’s test mode where available, or a real low-value transaction that you can refund according to your policies.

- Select every ticket type you intend to sell and verify quantity limits.
- Complete checkout with the payment method your audience will use.
- Confirm that the payment result, order or ticket status, and attendee record are created correctly.
- Check the confirmation email, sender address, event information, and any attached or displayed ticket details.
- Test a failed, cancelled, or abandoned payment and confirm that unavailable tickets are not incorrectly treated as paid attendees.
- Verify that refunds, cancellations, and capacity changes produce the attendee status you expect.
This test catches configuration errors in the public page, checkout, payment connection, attendee record, and email flow before customers encounter them.

Manage registrations and event-day entry
Keep attendee data usable
Use the ticketing tool’s attendee management and reporting features to view registrations, distinguish ticket types, and export or review the information staff need. Collect only necessary personal data, restrict dashboard access, and set a retention policy appropriate to your event and legal obligations.
Define a check-in procedure
Decide how staff will locate an attendee and verify admission: for example, by searching the attendee list, checking a ticket identifier, or using the check-in function available in your configuration. Write a fallback procedure for duplicate names, unpaid orders, refunds, late changes, and guests whose confirmation email is missing.

The documented features support attendee management and check-in, but they do not establish that a particular scanner, printer, or card reader is required. Choose hardware only if your chosen workflow and venue make it useful.

Common setup mistakes to avoid
- Using WooCommerce products for tickets: follow the documented Event Tickets Plus integration instead of creating ordinary products in WooCommerce.
- Assuming every payment method is available: Stripe and PayPal support is documented for the free commerce route, but wallets and other methods depend on account, country, device, browser, and configuration.
- Ignoring the calendar distinction: ticketing and calendar display are related but separate capabilities; add The Events Calendar when visitors need a browsable schedule.
- Testing only the editor view: verify the public page, checkout, payment result, attendee record, and email as a real buyer would.
- Planning only for checkout: assign responsibility for attendee reports, confirmation questions, refunds, and door check-in before sales open.
Which route should you use?
Choose standalone Event Tickets when you need a focused ticket or RSVP flow and do not already depend on WooCommerce. Choose Event Tickets Plus with WooCommerce when your organization already uses WooCommerce for orders and wants ticket purchases handled in that system. Add The Events Calendar when a calendar is part of how visitors discover events. In every case, verify regional payment eligibility, current fees, and the exact dashboard labels in the vendor’s current documentation before launch.
