To capture your iPhone screen, quickly press and release Side + Volume Up on a Face ID model, or Side + Home on a Home-button model. Open the screenshot preview, choose Full Page when it is offered, and drag the preview to inspect content below the visible screen. You can save the long capture as an image in Photos or as a PDF in Files. “Scroll” here means moving through the captured page—not automatically scrolling a live app while the screenshot is being taken.
First, choose the shortcut that matches your iPhone

Do not hold the buttons down. Holding them can open the power-off or emergency interface instead of taking a screenshot. Apple’s current iPhone screenshot guide documents these hardware combinations.

How to take a normal screenshot
- Open the screen you want to preserve.
- Press and quickly release the correct two-button combination.
- Watch for the screenshot preview. Its appearance depends on iOS version: newer software can show quick tools automatically, while iOS 18 and earlier commonly show a temporary thumbnail at the lower-left corner.
- Tap the preview to edit, mark up, crop, share or save it. Swipe the thumbnail left if you want to dismiss it without opening the editor.
A regular screenshot captures only what was visible at the instant you pressed the buttons. It is saved in Photos. To find older captures, open Photos and go to Collections > Media Types > Screenshots.
How to screenshot and scroll a whole page
Apple calls the long-capture option Full Page. The documented example is a webpage in Safari, so do not assume that every app offers it. An app may provide only the visible-screen screenshot.

- In Safari, open the webpage and wait for the part you need to finish loading.
- Take a screenshot with the appropriate button shortcut.
- Tap the screenshot preview before it disappears.
- At the top of the editor, tap Full Page. If that tab is not present, the current app or content does not expose a full-page capture through Apple’s interface.
- Use the page preview on the right to drag upward and inspect lower sections of the capture. This is the “scroll” part: you are browsing the already captured long image or document.
- Use the crop handles if you need to remove the top, bottom or sides.
- Choose the save action. Apple supports saving the full-page result as an image to Photos or as a PDF to Files; the exact button label can vary with the iOS release and the share sheet.
Apple describes the feature as capturing “what’s on your iPhone screen” and grabbing “a full page beyond the edge of the screen.” Read the official guide for the controls shown on your installed version.
What the long capture contains
- It extends beyond the current viewport when the app supplies a scrollable page that iOS can capture.
- It is not a video and does not continue following your finger as you scroll the live app.
- Dynamic content can differ from what you saw before taking the screenshot. If a page loads more items only after interaction, those items may not be included.
- Crop before saving when you need to remove browser chrome or unrelated sections.
Save, find and share the result
Save as an image
Use the editor’s save option to place a full-page image in Photos. It then behaves like any other photo: you can edit it, add it to an album or share it through the standard share sheet. A long image can be difficult to read when viewed at thumbnail size, so open it at full size before sending it.
Save as a PDF
Choose the Files destination when you need a document rather than a photo. Select a folder in iCloud Drive or an on-device location, name the file, and tap Save. PDFs are generally easier to search, annotate or attach to a work ticket than a very tall image.

Locate ordinary screenshots later
For non-full-page captures, Photos’ Collections > Media Types > Screenshots view is the quickest index. If you saved a long capture as a PDF, look in the Files folder you selected instead of Photos.

- The app does not support it: Apple’s concrete example is a Safari webpage, and the support material does not promise availability in every app. Capture several visible sections instead, or use the app’s own export function.
- You opened the wrong preview: Take a new screenshot and tap its thumbnail immediately. On newer iOS versions, look for the automatic screenshot editor rather than waiting for a lower-left thumbnail.
- The page is not actually scrollable: A static screen, dialog or image has no additional document area for iOS to extend.
- Content has not loaded: Wait for the page and images to finish loading, then capture again. Lazy-loaded sections may not exist in the page until you reach them.
- You are trying to capture a live feed: Full Page is a post-capture document feature, not an automatic scrolling recorder. For moving content, take several screenshots or use a screen recording where appropriate.
Alternative ways to trigger a screenshot
Siri
Ask Siri to take a screenshot when pressing two buttons is awkward. Siri is an alternative trigger; you still edit and save the resulting capture through the screenshot preview.
AssistiveTouch
AssistiveTouch places an on-screen control over other apps. Apple’s instructions are at Use AssistiveTouch on iPhone. Configure it at Settings > Accessibility > Touch > AssistiveTouch, then assign Screenshot to a menu item or gesture. AssistiveTouch can also perform scroll gestures, which helps when hardware buttons or precise finger movements are difficult. Compatible adaptive accessories, such as a joystick, can work with AssistiveTouch; Apple does not require a particular accessory.

Back Tap
On supported iPhones, assign a double- or triple-tap on the back of the phone to Screenshot under Settings > Accessibility > Touch > Back Tap. This is useful when you want a repeatable gesture without pressing both buttons.
iOS version differences to expect
The workflow is stable—trigger the capture, open its preview, then choose Full Page when available—but the surrounding interface changes. Apple’s version-specific support page says iOS 26 can display the screenshot automatically with quick tools, while iOS 18 and earlier generally show a temporary thumbnail at the bottom left. If your screen does not match an illustration, look for the screenshot editor or preview rather than a particular thumbnail position. Apple also documents settings that affect screenshot display and SDR/HDR defaults, so color or preview behavior can vary with those settings. Troubleshooting checklist
Nothing happens when I press the buttons
- Release both buttons quickly instead of holding them.
- Press them simultaneously; a large delay can trigger volume or the side-button action separately.
- Try the hardware combination for your actual model. Face ID phones use Side + Volume Up; Home-button phones use Side + Home, or Top + Home on older models.
- If a physical button is unreliable, use Siri, AssistiveTouch or Back Tap.
The preview disappeared
Open Photos and look in Collections > Media Types > Screenshots. A dismissed thumbnail does not normally delete the capture.

The screenshot is black, blank or incomplete
Some protected or remote content may not render in a capture. For ordinary webpages, wait for loading to finish and retry. If only one app fails while other screens work, use that app’s export or sharing feature; Apple’s Full Page option is not guaranteed across apps.
I cannot find the PDF
A full-page PDF goes to the folder selected in the Files save dialog, not automatically to Photos. Open Files and check iCloud Drive, On My iPhone, and any folder you chose when saving.

Where does a full-page PDF go?
It goes to the folder you select in the Files save dialog. It is separate from the Photos album used for regular screenshots.
Does Full Page automatically scroll every app?
