A normal screenshot records only the visible viewport. A full-page capture asks the browser or device to include content below the fold. Before saving, let the page finish loading and inspect the result: animated, lazy-loaded or embedded content may not render exactly as it does on screen.
Firefox desktop: save the full page from the context menu
Fastest method
- Open the webpage in Firefox and wait for its visible content to finish loading.
- Right-click an empty area of the page.
- Select Take Screenshot.
- Choose Save full page.
- Confirm the preview and save the PNG to your Downloads location.
Mozilla documents this page-menu workflow in its Firefox screenshot support guide. If a page has not finished loading images, scroll through it once, wait for lazy-loaded sections, and repeat the capture.
Firefox Developer Tools alternatives
Firefox’s Developer Tools can capture a full page with the :screenshot --fullpage command. Open Developer Tools, use the command interface, enter that command, and save the resulting PNG. Mozilla’s Developer Tools screenshot documentation describes this route and the PNG output.

The screenshot button may not appear in the toolbox initially. Open Developer Tools settings, find Available Toolbox Buttons, enable the screenshot control, and then use it from the toolbar. This is separate from the page context-menu option, so try the simpler right-click path first.
Microsoft Edge: use Web Capture
- Open the page in Edge.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows, or open the browser menu and choose Web Capture.
- Select Capture full page.
- Review the capture, then save or copy it using the controls Edge presents.
Microsoft describes Web Capture on its Edge screenshot feature page. Microsoft also cautions that availability and functionality can vary by device type, market and browser version. If the shortcut does nothing, open the menu manually and look for Web Capture, then update Edge through its settings if the option is absent.
Chrome desktop: capture a full-size screenshot through DevTools
Chrome’s full-size command is documented in a Chrome Help Community answer, rather than an official Chrome product manual. Menu names can therefore change between releases.
- Open the target page in Chrome.
- Open Developer Tools with Ctrl+Shift+I on Windows or Cmd+Option+I on Mac.
- Open the command menu with Ctrl+Shift+P on Windows or Cmd+Shift+P on Mac.
- Type Capture full size screenshot.
- Select that command and wait for Chrome to generate the image.
If the command is not listed, check that DevTools has focus, search for “screenshot” rather than the complete phrase, and try again after reloading the page. A regular operating-system screenshot will not include the page’s off-screen content.

Safari on iPhone: save a complete page as an image or PDF
- Open the webpage in Safari.
- Take a screenshot. On Face ID models, press the side button and volume-up button together. On iPhone models with a Home button, press the side button and Home button together.
- Tap the screenshot thumbnail that appears in the lower-left corner.
- Choose Full Page at the top of the editor.
- Use the share or save controls to save the result to Photos as an image or to Files as a PDF.
Apple documents these controls in its iPhone screenshot guide. The Full Page tab appears for webpages that support the format; it is not the same as a normal screen capture. If you need a document someone can search or print, choose PDF and save it to Files.
Make the capture complete and readable
Wait for dynamic content
News feeds, product grids and image-heavy pages often load as you scroll. Scroll from top to bottom once, pause where images or cards appear, then return to the top and capture again. A page that is still showing spinners can produce a partial image.
Handle sticky headers and overlays
Fixed navigation bars, cookie dialogs, newsletter forms and chat bubbles can cover content in a full-page image. Close dismissible overlays before capturing. If a consent dialog blocks the page, make your choice first; otherwise the browser may record the dialog instead of the article.
Check embedded and independently scrolling areas
A browser’s “full page” feature generally follows the document itself. An embedded chat window, code editor or map with its own scrollbar may remain limited to its visible box. Capture that component separately, or use the site’s export function when it provides one.

Verify the result
- Open the saved file and inspect the top, middle and bottom.
- Check that text is not clipped at viewport boundaries.
- Look for missing lazy-loaded images or blank iframe areas.
- Confirm that private information is not visible before sharing.
Image versus PDF: which should you save?
Use PNG when you need a pixel-accurate visual for a bug report, design review or archive. PNG is the documented output for Firefox Developer Tools. Use an image when a recipient needs to paste the capture into a document or issue tracker.
Use PDF when the goal is reading, printing or distributing a long page as a document. Safari on iPhone explicitly offers PDF saving for Full Page captures. A PDF can be easier to search and paginate, but its layout may differ from the live page and interactive elements will not work.
When built-in capture does not work
The full-page option is missing
- Firefox: try the right-click Take Screenshot route, or enable the screenshot button under Developer Tools’ Available Toolbox Buttons.
- Edge: open the browser menu and search for Web Capture; Microsoft says the feature can vary by device, market and version.
- Chrome: ensure DevTools is open and focused, then reopen the command menu and search for “Capture full size screenshot.”
- Safari: the Full Page tab appears after tapping the screenshot thumbnail while viewing a supported webpage in Safari.
The capture stops halfway down
Reload the page, wait for network activity to settle, and scroll through the document so deferred images load. Try again with fewer overlays open. Pages that continually replace content, use nested scroll regions or require interaction may not produce a perfect single image through the browser’s built-in path.
The page is blank or shows a bot check
Do not assume the screenshot represents the real page. A bot challenge, authentication redirect or failed network request can leave a blank capture. Resolve the challenge in the browser, sign in if you are authorized, and confirm the page is visible before retrying. Some protected pages intentionally prevent automated or off-screen rendering.

The file is too large to share
PNG preserves detail but can be large for very long pages. Crop irrelevant sections, resize a copy, or export a PDF when the recipient needs a document rather than a pixel-perfect image. Keep the original if it may be needed for evidence.

Practical limits and privacy checks
Browser capture is local to your device, which is useful for pages behind your own login but means the result depends on your browser state, viewport and loaded resources. Do not share captures containing passwords, personal data, private dashboards or session-specific URLs. For automated captures, protect API keys, send only URLs you are authorized to access, and review webhook and signed-link permissions.
No built-in browser method guarantees identical results on every website. Dynamic layouts, embedded scroll areas, authentication, bot protection and version differences can all change the output. Treat the saved file as a representation of what the browser successfully rendered and inspect it before relying on it.

Can I screenshot a whole webpage on Windows without installing anything?
Yes. Firefox, Edge and Chrome desktop provide built-in full-page routes. Firefox and Edge have documented browser controls; Chrome’s “Capture full size screenshot” route is described in Chrome Help Community guidance.
Does a full-page screenshot include content below the fold?
It can, when the browser’s full-page command successfully renders the document. Lazy-loaded, embedded or independently scrolling content may still be missing.
What is the best format for a long webpage?
Choose PNG for a visual record and Safari’s PDF option when you need a readable or printable document.
Why is my full-page image blank?
The page may still be loading, may have redirected to authentication or a bot check, or may have failed to render. Confirm the page is visible, resolve authorized sign-in or challenges, then retry.
