Do not scrape Barchart’s consumer pages with a bot or data-extraction script unless you have written authorization. Barchart’s Terms of Service prohibit using data-mining, robots, or similar tools to capture data or content from its services. For a one-off file, use the site’s manual Price History download. For software, use a licensed Barchart data product or an authorized chart integration.
Why scraping Barchart’s public pages is not the right approach
Barchart’s Terms of Service, updated July 1, 2025, prohibit users from using “any data mining, robots, or similar data gathering and extraction tools to capture data or content from the Barchart Services.” The terms also limit how downloadable content may be used: personal use is subject to the rules provided with that content, and reproduction, retransmission, dissemination, sale, distribution, publication, broadcasting, or circulation requires prior express written consent from Barchart and/or the data providers. Read the Barchart Terms of Service and get written authorization before automating access or reusing data.
This matters even when a page is publicly viewable or a script only requests a small number of symbols. A browser automation script, an HTML parser, or code that imitates the site’s internal requests can still be a data-gathering tool. Do not treat a working request as permission, and do not assume that a personal account grants API or redistribution rights.
Choose an authorized way to obtain the data
| Method | Best for | Access and rights | What to check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Manual Price History download | A one-time historical file for analysis | Use the consumer site’s Download control under the applicable membership and content rules | Lookback, interval, record cap, extended-hours inclusion, and dividend adjustment |
| Barchart OnDemand or streaming products | Applications, recurring jobs, or market-data workflows | Use a licensed data service and its permitted API or SDK | Exchange coverage, real-time versus delayed delivery, history, fields, redistribution rights, and commercial terms |
| Authorized HTML5 Chart integration | Exporting chart data in an application where you are authorized to use the chart | Use the chart’s documented export methods and the applicable feed/data agreement | Whether the integration and each requested data use are covered by your authorization |
These routes are not interchangeable. A manual download is not automatically a license for an unattended recurring job. An API subscription does not necessarily grant the right to redistribute the data to customers. Confirm the contract terms for your use case.

Download historical prices manually
For a human-operated, one-off export, Barchart documents a Price History workflow. The exact controls can vary with the page and account, so follow the current labels shown to you rather than relying on a scripted sequence.
- Open the Barchart Quote Overview page for the symbol you need.
- Select Price History.
- Choose the date range and interval, such as daily or intraday, that your account permits.
- Review adjustment and session choices, then use the page’s Download control.
- Check the downloaded file for the selected symbol, requested dates, timestamps, and interval before using it.
Barchart’s help article says site members can download daily prices for up to two years. It describes deeper history for Premier members: approximately 10 years of intraday data, daily data back to 01/01/2000, and weekly, monthly, and quarterly data back to 01/01/1980. The article was modified November 17, 2020; these are documented figures, not a guarantee that every symbol, interval, or current account has identical availability. A single request is limited to 10,000 records. See Barchart’s historical data help article and confirm the current options in your account.
Understand what the downloaded prices represent
- Extended hours: U.S. equity requests may include extended-hours trades. Confirm the session setting so that your analysis does not silently mix regular-session and premarket or after-hours values.
- Adjusted prices: Daily and longer-interval prices may be dividend adjusted. Preserve the adjustment choice with the file; adjusted and unadjusted series answer different questions.
- Record limit: The 10,000-record cap applies to a single download request in the cited help article. If a permitted manual export must be split into ranges, record the boundaries and check for overlap or gaps. Do not use this as a workaround for a restriction on automated extraction.
- Historical availability: The stated lookbacks come from Barchart’s 2020 help article and can depend on account, symbol, and data availability. Verify the range before planning a long-running workflow.
Use Barchart data in software through licensed delivery
For production or recurring access, start with Barchart’s developer catalog rather than reverse-engineering consumer-page traffic. Its catalog lists streaming market data, SDKs for Java, Python, .NET, and Go, Barchart OnDemand historical and on-demand data, and Market Replay. Consult the Barchart developer catalog to identify a product and request terms suited to your application.

- Comes with secure packaging
- Easy to read text
- It can be a gift option
Barchart describes OnDemand as providing real-time or delayed equities data by exchange and historical series through API queries. Availability, delay, fields, lookback, and permitted use depend on the product and agreement; the public description is not a complete commercial price list. Review the Barchart OnDemand API information and confirm commercial terms directly with Barchart before choosing an implementation.
Plan the data contract before writing the client
- Specify the instruments, exchanges, fields, interval, and date range you need.
- Determine whether the use requires real-time, delayed, historical, or streaming delivery.
- Confirm whether the license permits storage, caching, display to end users, and redistribution.
- Establish how the provider represents timestamps, exchange sessions, corporate actions, and adjustments.
- Use the approved SDK or API method and follow the service’s authentication, rate, and retention terms.
The public Barchart pages cited here do not establish one universal price for API access. Ask Barchart for the current quote and the exact rights attached to it; do not infer an API price from a consumer membership.
Export from an authorized Barchart HTML5 Chart
If your application has an authorized Barchart HTML5 Chart integration, its documented API offers exportData(options), which returns CSV text, and exportTable(options), which returns structured columns and rows. The chart’s feed model separates time-series data, metadata, and quote or streaming data. Those export methods apply to an authorized chart integration; they are not a general-purpose interface for extracting arbitrary Barchart consumer pages. Consult the HTML5 Chart API documentation and confirm that your feed and intended export are within your agreement.
Make the data usable and auditable
Price files can look plausible while still being wrong for the question you are asking. Keep the original response or download unchanged, and preserve enough context to reproduce your analysis.
- Record provenance: Save the symbol, request or download time, requested date bounds, interval, and source product alongside the raw data.
- Keep session and adjustment context: Note whether extended-hours data was included and whether prices were adjusted. Do not merge series with different settings without making that distinction explicit.
- Validate timestamps: Check timezone assumptions and exchange-session boundaries before joining prices to other datasets.
- Check continuity: Look for missing bars, duplicate timestamps, unexpected gaps, and overlapping ranges. A market holiday or an instrument-specific halt may explain a gap, but verify rather than filling it blindly.
- Account for corporate actions: Understand how splits and dividends are represented before comparing old and new prices or calculating returns.
- Control retention and sharing: Cache only as your agreement allows and do not publish or redistribute data unless the applicable terms authorize it.

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server, not a stock-data feed or substitute for Barchart authorization. If the task is to capture a page visually after you are permitted to access it, one GET request returns an image or PDF; it does not turn page capture into permission to extract or reuse market data. See ScreenshotNeo and its API documentation.
Example cURL request for a visual capture:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://www.barchart.com/ -o shot.webp
The same endpoint can be called from Python or Node.js:

import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://www.barchart.com/"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://www.barchart.com/' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
ScreenshotNeo removes cookie banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before the shot; bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are never billed. Its MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots. The page has no Download control or the requested date range is unavailable
Confirm that you are on the symbol’s Price History view, signed into the appropriate account, and selecting an interval and range the account supports. The historical limits documented in Barchart’s help article are not a promise that every symbol or request will return every date. If you need recurring or deeper access, ask Barchart about a licensed product rather than automating the page.
The download stops before the end of the range
Check whether the request reached the documented 10,000-record single-request limit. Narrow a manual request to a permitted interval if appropriate, and compare date boundaries for gaps and duplicate rows. For application workloads, ask about a licensed endpoint and its request limits.
Two files show different prices for the same date
Compare interval, adjustment settings, and session coverage first. One file may include extended-hours trades or use dividend-adjusted daily values while the other does not. Preserve those settings and avoid joining unlike series as if they were identical.
Best Value
Your script gets blocked or stops working after a page change
Do not evade access controls or keep retrying a consumer-page scraper. Barchart’s terms prohibit data-mining and similar extraction tools. Stop the automation and obtain written permission or move to a licensed API, SDK, or authorized chart integration.
You have data but cannot publish it to customers
Access and redistribution are separate questions. Review your Barchart and underlying provider terms for display, storage, and redistribution rights, then ask Barchart for written clarification if the intended use is not explicit. Do not assume that downloading a file or receiving an API response grants publication rights.
Questions developers ask
Does Barchart have an API for stock data?
Yes. Barchart lists OnDemand data and streaming products, alongside SDKs, in its developer catalog. Which instruments, timing, and rights apply depends on the product and license.

Barchart documents a manual Download control within Price History. For an authorized HTML5 Chart integration, the documented exportData(options) method returns CSV text.
Can I scrape a screenshot instead of downloading the data?
A screenshot is a visual capture, not structured, licensed market data. It is not a workaround for Barchart’s extraction restrictions and is generally unsuitable for price-series calculations.
