Use BRAIN’s official partner API whenever you can. It provides structured product, price, availability, characteristic, description, image, filter and ordering data, and its modified_products method supports incremental updates. Scrape rendered pages only when you do not have authorized API access or when the API does not contain a field you need. For public pages, extract Product JSON-LD before writing CSS selectors, and use a JavaScript-capable browser when the page does not contain the product data in its initial HTML.
This guide shows how to authenticate and synchronize catalog data through the partner interface, how to build a resilient HTML fallback for brain.com.ua, how to diagnose 403 and 518 responses, and how to avoid turning a one-time import into an unreliable full-catalog crawl.
Choose the official API before scraping pages
BRAIN states that it gives partners access to its product database through an API. The documented interface is intended for activated wholesale-portal administrators, so registration and administrator authorization are prerequisites. If you are an authorized dealer, this is the route to use for production catalog work.

What the partner API can provide
- Product catalog records and category product lists
- Vendor lists and product lookups by article or product code
- Prices, availability and price-list information
- Characteristics, descriptions, filters and other content
- Product images and related content
- Ordering functions
- A
modified_productsmethod for finding product IDs changed since your last synchronization
These fields are more stable than selectors tied to a storefront’s HTML. They also let you preserve data types: a numeric price remains a price, availability is not inferred from button text, and a product code does not have to be reconstructed from a displayed title.

When page scraping is still appropriate
Use page extraction as a fallback when you are not eligible for the partner API, when a public merchandising element is absent from the API, or when you need to verify what an ordinary visitor sees. Treat it as a separate ingestion path. Store the source URL, retrieval time and extraction method so that a later markup change does not silently overwrite trusted API data.
API workflow: authenticate, discover, then synchronize
- Obtain authorization. Ask BRAIN about partner registration and activate a wholesale-portal administrator account. Do not assume that an unauthenticated public-page request grants permission to copy the catalog.
- Authenticate. Use the API’s documented
authmethod and retain the returned session or token exactly as the documentation specifies. Keep credentials in environment variables or a secret manager, never in source control. - Discover the catalog. Retrieve category product lists and vendor lists, then use the individual-product, article and product-code lookup methods to resolve records your application needs.
- Fetch related records. Request characteristics, descriptions, filters, images and other content separately when the API models them as related resources. Save the product identifier that joins each record.
- Build an initial snapshot. Normalize currency, decimal precision, availability states and image URLs in your own database. Keep the raw response as an audit copy.
- Switch to incremental updates. On each scheduled run, call
modified_products, then refresh only the affected product, option, image and content records. This avoids repeatedly downloading an unchanged full catalog. - Log out when required. Use the documented
logoutmethod and expire local sessions according to BRAIN’s instructions.
Incremental synchronization pattern
last_sync = load_checkpoint()
changed_ids = brain.modified_products(since=last_sync)
for product_id in changed_ids:
product = brain.get_product(product_id)
options = brain.get_product_options(product_id)
images = brain.get_product_images(product_id)
content = brain.get_product_content(product_id)
upsert_product(product, options, images, content)
save_checkpoint(now())
The method names above describe the documented operations; use the exact request shape, paging rules and timestamp format in BRAIN’s current partner documentation. Do not invent an endpoint or guess parameter names when your account’s documentation supplies them.
Data-quality checks for API imports
- Reject a record if its product identifier is missing or changes unexpectedly.
- Parse prices with a decimal type and retain the currency supplied by BRAIN.
- Represent availability as a controlled value plus the original response text, rather than converting every nonempty string to “in stock.”
- Deduplicate images by URL and preserve their order or role when supplied.
- Keep a last-seen timestamp so a temporary empty response cannot delete a previously valid product.
- Record API errors separately from “product not found”; they require different recovery actions.
HTML fallback: extract Product JSON-LD first
A current Crawlbase recipe for brain.com.ua reports that product pages commonly include a Product JSON-LD block. It usually contains the canonical name, price, currency and availability. Read this structured data before relying on CSS classes, which can change with a redesign or localization.

Python example for a static response
import json
from decimal import Decimal
from typing import Any
import requests
from bs4 import BeautifulSoup
url = "https://brain.com.ua/"
response = requests.get(
url,
headers={"User-Agent": "catalog-monitor/1.0"},
timeout=30,
)
response.raise_for_status()
soup = BeautifulSoup(response.text, "html.parser")
products: list[dict[str, Any]] = []
for tag in soup.select('script[type="application/ld+json"]'):
try:
data = json.loads(tag.string or tag.get_text())
except json.JSONDecodeError:
continue
nodes = data if isinstance(data, list) else [data]
for node in nodes:
if not isinstance(node, dict):
continue
if node.get("@type") != "Product":
continue
offers = node.get("offers", {})
if isinstance(offers, list):
offers = offers[0] if offers else {}
products.append({
"name": node.get("name"),
"sku": node.get("sku"),
"price": Decimal(str(offers["price"])) if offers.get("price") else None,
"currency": offers.get("priceCurrency"),
"availability": offers.get("availability"),
"source_url": url,
})
print(json.dumps(products, ensure_ascii=False, default=str, indent=2))
Replace the example URL with a specific product page. The parser tolerates a JSON-LD array and an offers array, but it intentionally does not guess values from visible text. If the JSON-LD block is absent or incomplete, mark the field as missing and use a documented fallback selector only for that field.

cURL inspection
curl -L --max-time 30
-A 'catalog-monitor/1.0'
'https://brain.com.ua/PRODUCT_URL'
-o product.html
Search the saved document for application/ld+json and "@type":"Product". A response containing only a shell of the page is evidence that the product is rendered later by JavaScript, not that the item is unavailable.
Node.js JSON-LD extraction
import { load } from "cheerio";
const url = "https://brain.com.ua/PRODUCT_URL";
const res = await fetch(url, {
headers: { "user-agent": "catalog-monitor/1.0" },
});
if (!res.ok) throw new Error(`HTTP ${res.status}`);
const $ = load(await res.text());
for (const element of $('script[type="application/ld+json"]').toArray()) {
try {
const value = JSON.parse($(element).text());
const nodes = Array.isArray(value) ? value : [value];
for (const node of nodes) {
if (node?.["@type"] === "Product") console.log(node);
}
} catch {
// Ignore malformed or non-product JSON-LD blocks.
}
}
Know when a browser is required
The Crawlbase recipe reports that successful Brain requests used a JavaScript token and answered “yes” when asked whether a browser is needed for most pages. A plain HTTP client can therefore receive an incomplete document, an access challenge or a page whose price and availability are populated only after scripts run.
Use a rendered session when
- Initial HTML has no Product JSON-LD or has placeholder values.
- Price, stock or options appear only after a script request.
- A consent dialog blocks the content you need to inspect.
- The page requires a JavaScript token or browser-generated cookies.
Use a real browser or a rendering service with conservative concurrency. Wait for a product selector, a network-idle condition or a short, measured delay; do not rely on an arbitrary multi-minute sleep. Capture the final HTML and browser-console or network errors for diagnosis. Respect BRAIN’s terms and access controls, and stop rather than repeatedly retrying a denied request.
Handle failures by class, not by blind retries
403 Forbidden
The recipe attributes 403 responses to access or egress refusal. Check authorization, IP reputation, required cookies, JavaScript-token handling and request headers. A different permitted egress or an authenticated partner API may solve the problem. Repeatedly hammering the same URL is not a fix; back off and confirm that your use is authorized.

518 or another site-side 5xx
The recipe associates 518 with a site-side 5xx response. Retry with exponential backoff and jitter, cap the number of attempts, and record the response body and request ID if one is supplied. If the error persists, pause the job and investigate rather than increasing concurrency.
200 response but no product fields
- Check whether you downloaded a bot-check or consent page instead of the product.
- Inspect JSON-LD before changing selectors.
- Render JavaScript if the initial HTML is only an application shell.
- Verify that you waited for the product data request, not merely for the first DOM paint.
Price or availability disagrees with the API
Keep both observations with timestamps. The storefront may reflect a customer region, promotion or session state while the partner feed supplies a different wholesale or account-specific value. Do not silently overwrite one with the other; define which source is authoritative for your use case.
Performance, reliability and operating cost
An API-first design is normally faster and cheaper to operate because it avoids browser startup and downloads only changed records. The modified_products workflow also limits load on BRAIN and reduces your own processing volume. Full-page rendering costs more CPU, memory and time, so reserve it for URLs that need it.
Practical controls
- Queue requests and set a documented concurrency limit.
- Cache unchanged pages and API records; invalidate them from your synchronization policy, not from every request.
- Use connect, read and overall timeouts.
- Retry only transient failures such as selected 5xx responses and timeouts.
- Persist checkpoints so a crashed run resumes without restarting the catalog.
- Alert on sudden changes in JSON-LD coverage, error rate or extracted-field completeness.
- Keep a small canary set of representative product URLs to detect markup or access changes before a full job.
The Crawlbase recipe reports a 99.1% success rate and a 7.0-second median for its August 2026 Brain.com.ua request sample. Those figures describe that provider’s sample, not a guarantee for BRAIN, your network or future dates.

API versus page scraping
| Concern | Official partner API | Rendered-page fallback |
|---|---|---|
| Authorization | Requires partner and administrator activation | Must still comply with BRAIN’s terms and access controls |
| Data shape | Structured product, content, image, filter, price and availability methods | Usually Product JSON-LD plus page-specific markup |
| JavaScript cost | Normally avoids storefront rendering | May require a browser or JavaScript rendering service |
| Updates | modified_products enables incremental refresh |
Requires URL queues, change detection and recrawling |
| Failure modes | Authentication, schema, quota or service errors | 403 refusal, 518/site-side 5xx, bot checks and markup changes |
For a dealer’s catalog, the API should be the system of record. For public-page verification or API gaps, combine JSON-LD extraction with selective rendering and explicit provenance.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do Brain product pages always work with Python requests?
No. A plain response may omit data that is inserted by JavaScript or may return an access challenge. Inspect the initial HTML for Product JSON-LD, then use a JavaScript-capable retrieval method when the required fields are not present.

Can I use the partner API without a wholesale account?
The documented interface is for activated wholesale-portal administrators. Contact BRAIN about partner registration and authorization before building an integration.
Should I retry every 403 response?
No. A 403 indicates access or egress refusal in the documented recipe. Verify authorization and request conditions, back off, and do not repeatedly hammer the URL.
