To save a blog post on your computer, choose Save page as for an editable local webpage, Print to PDF for a portable document, or a browser’s Reading List/offline feature for quick later access. The best option depends on whether you need links and page structure, printing and sharing, or simply reading without an internet connection.
Which saving method should you use?
| What you need | Best method | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| A durable local copy with working page structure and links | Save the webpage as HTML | A webpage file and, usually, an accompanying folder of resources |
| A file that is easy to print, share or annotate | Print or save as PDF | A fixed-layout PDF document |
| An organized queue of posts to revisit | Reading List | A browser-managed list rather than a separately named file |
| Reading when you will be offline | Download or save for offline reading | A locally available copy, subject to the page’s scripts, login and media requirements |
| You use Firefox or Safari | That browser’s built-in save tools | Browser-specific HTML, text, Reading List or offline options |
1. Save the webpage as an HTML file
Saving the page itself is the most useful choice when links, headings and the original page structure matter. The result opens in a browser and can be moved or backed up like other files.
Chrome on Windows or Mac
- Open the blog post.
- Select More (the three-dot menu), then Cast, save, and share, and choose Save page as….
- Choose a folder and select Save.
- Open the saved file from that folder in your default browser.
Chrome may create an HTML file plus a companion folder containing images and other page resources. Keep both together if you move or share the saved copy.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteWhat works offline—and what may not
Text and basic page structure generally remain available, but interactive widgets, advertising, embedded video, live comments, remote images, scripts and login-only sections may fail when you are offline. A saved HTML page is therefore an archive of the page as captured, not a guarantee that every online feature will continue to work.

2. Print the post to a PDF
PDF is usually the best format for sharing, printing or annotating a blog post. It preserves a fixed layout, but interactive page features are flattened.
Windows
- Open the post and press Ctrl+P.
- In the printer or destination list, choose Microsoft Print to PDF or Save as PDF.
- Choose the destination folder, name the file and save it.
Mac
- Open the post and press Command+P.
- In the print dialog, open the PDF menu and select Save as PDF.
- Choose where to save the document and confirm.
As the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau puts it, “Your web browser can likely ‘print’ the page to a PDF.” If the preview includes navigation, ads or a missing article, use the page’s own print view when available, or adjust the print dialog’s pages, margins and background settings.

3. Add the post to a browser Reading List
Use a Reading List when you want an organized queue rather than an independently named file. It is convenient for collecting articles, but the item remains managed by the browser and may not be as portable as an HTML or PDF file.

4. Download a page for offline reading
If your main goal is to read a post on a flight, during an outage or away from Wi-Fi, use the browser’s download or offline-save workflow. In Chrome, the documented desktop route is More → Cast, save, and share → Save page as…; reopen the downloaded file later from its folder.
Google Chrome introduced webpage downloading for complete offline viewing in 2016. In a May 8, 2017 announcement, the Chrome team said more than 45 million web pages were downloaded each week; that is historical context, not a current usage figure.

When the labels do not match
Browser menus change over time. Search the browser menu for Save Page, Download, Reading List or Print/Save as PDF. These commands cover the same five practical outcomes even when their positions differ.
Quick Recap
Checks after saving
- Open the saved HTML or PDF before closing the original tab.
- For HTML, keep the companion resource folder beside the file.
- Test an important link or image if you need the copy for reference.
- For offline use, disconnect from the internet and confirm the article still opens as expected.
- If the page contains private or login-protected material, store the copy securely and check that sharing it is permitted.
