On Dolphin for Android, start a game and open Dolphin’s in-game menu. Then choose Overlay Controls → Toggle Controls → Toggle All. The virtual buttons disappear; repeat the same steps to show them again.
Hide all of Dolphin’s on-screen buttons on Android
- Open Dolphin and start a GameCube or Wii game.
- Open Dolphin’s in-game menu. Depending on your device, press Android’s Back button or use its configured back or edge gesture.
- Choose Overlay Controls.
- Tap Toggle Controls, then Toggle All.
The virtual touchscreen controls should disappear from the game view. This is a visibility toggle, not a controller-profile deletion: use Toggle All again to bring the overlay back. Dolphin’s Android interface includes these menu labels in its Android resource strings. Menu placement can vary by release or device.
If you play with a physical controller, connect it and confirm it works in the game before hiding the overlay. Keep a way to reopen Dolphin’s menu, such as Back or your device’s back gesture.

Hide only selected controls
If you still want some touchscreen buttons, open the same Overlay Controls menu and look for Edit Layout or the control-adjustment options. Depending on your build, you may be able to hide, move, resize, or change the opacity of individual controls. The exact controls and labels can differ, so avoid changing the whole layout if you only want to remove a few buttons.

Restore missing or misplaced buttons
First try Overlay Controls → Toggle Controls → Toggle All again. If the controls remain missing or seem to be off-screen, look for Reset Overlay in the overlay menu. Resetting can restore the default arrangement, so it may undo custom positioning, sizing, or opacity adjustments; use it after the simple toggle, not as the first step.
Hidden buttons do not necessarily mean touch input is disabled
Hiding the visible overlay and disabling touchscreen input are different goals. If touches still affect the game, an invisible binding or a separate touch feature may still be active. Check the relevant control or touch settings in your Dolphin build—for example, Wii pointer or touch-IR behavior and any double-tap action—rather than assuming Toggle All makes the touchscreen inert.

A bar or arrow is still on screen
Not every visible element belongs to Dolphin’s GameCube or Wii control overlay. A remaining arrow, sidebar, performance counter, or toolbar could come from your phone’s gaming tools, Android accessibility or navigation features, a controller-mapping app, or a third-party Dolphin fork.

- If it does not, temporarily turn off the device’s game assistant, gaming sidebar, mapper, or other screen-overlay apps.
- If it persists, check Android’s system-level overlay and accessibility settings, or the settings for the app that adds it.
A user report about an Android side arrow illustrates why the element’s source matters: it may be a separate on-screen mapping or device overlay rather than Dolphin’s usual buttons (report).

Why you may not see “Overlay Controls”
Start a game before looking for this option; the relevant controls are generally in the running game’s menu, not Dolphin’s main game list or Android system settings. If the option is still missing, your build may use different wording or menu placement. Dolphin’s stable and development builds, older releases, forks, and handheld-specific distributions do not necessarily present an identical interface. The official download page distinguishes Android from desktop versions and lists development builds separately.
Dolphin provides a manual hide/show route, but do not assume every build automatically hides the overlay when a controller connects. Automatic hiding has appeared as an Android feature request; that alone does not establish that it is available in your release (issue tracker).

Does this apply to desktop Dolphin?
These steps are for Dolphin on Android, where virtual touchscreen controls are used. Windows, macOS, and Linux users generally configure a keyboard or physical controller instead of hiding Android-style on-screen GameCube or Wii buttons. See Dolphin’s controller configuration guide for controller setup; its instructions are primarily desktop-oriented.
