Most likely, you do not need to uninstall Malwarebytes for Windows. The Malwarebytes feature that blocks advertisements and trackers is usually Malwarebytes Browser Guard, a separate browser extension. You can allow ads on one website, turn off only its Ads/Trackers protection everywhere, or remove the extension entirely.

Choose the right fix

First, identify what is blocking the content
Open your browser’s installed extensions page and look for Malwarebytes Browser Guard. You may also see a Malwarebytes icon in the browser toolbar, a protection panel, or statistics showing blocked ads and trackers.

- Browser Guard: A browser extension that can block ads, trackers, cookie banners, scams, phishing attempts, malicious websites, and other browser threats.
- Malwarebytes for Windows: The desktop security application for scanning and real-time protection.
- Web Protection: A Malwarebytes for Windows layer that blocks access to malicious domains and IP addresses. It is not the normal control for removing advertisements.
- Other software: uBlock Origin, AdGuard, browser tracking protection, antivirus web shields, VPN threat-protection features, and unwanted extensions can cause similar symptoms.
Malwarebytes lists Browser Guard as supporting Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Safari, and also mentions Telegram. Controls can differ between browsers and extension versions.
Allow ads on one website
This is usually the safest solution when one site needs advertising or its page stops working. It keeps Browser Guard’s protections active elsewhere.
- Open the affected website.
- Select the Malwarebytes Browser Guard icon in your browser toolbar. If it is hidden, open the browser’s extensions menu first.
- Open the extension’s settings or protection controls.
- Choose Allow list, then add the site URL or IP address.
- When Browser Guard asks which protection category to exempt, select Ads/Trackers if that is all you need to change.
- Select Done, close or reload the page, and test it again.
Malwarebytes documents this site-specific Allow list process in its Browser Guard guidance. If the site remains blocked, review whether a separate Malware, Scams, or PUP protection category—or another blocker—is responsible before exempting everything.

- Select the Browser Guard icon.
- Open Settings or the extension’s global protection controls.
- Find Ads/Trackers.
- Turn that protection off.
- Reload any tabs that were already open.
The exact button location and wording may change. Look specifically for Ads/Trackers, rather than disabling every Browser Guard category. Leaving Malware and Scam protections enabled preserves more browser-level protection while allowing advertising content.
Remove Browser Guard from your browser
Removing the extension stops Browser Guard’s browser-based ad and tracker filtering. It may also remove its protection against malicious pages, scams, phishing, and related browser threats. Check every browser separately; removing it from Chrome does not necessarily remove it from Edge, Firefox, or Safari.
Chrome
- Open Chrome’s extensions manager, commonly available from the three-dot menu under Extensions.
- Find Malwarebytes Browser Guard.
- Choose Remove and confirm.
Microsoft Edge
- Open Edge’s extensions manager from the browser menu.
- Find Malwarebytes Browser Guard.
- Choose Remove and confirm.
Firefox
- Open Add-ons and themes, then select Extensions.
- Find Browser Guard and open its menu.
- Select Remove.
Safari
- Open Safari’s extension settings.
- Select Malwarebytes Browser Guard.
- Choose the available uninstall or disable option.
For browser-specific details, use Malwarebytes’ official Browser Guard removal instructions. Browser menus can change with updates, so the extension-management page is the reliable place to verify removal.
Uninstall Malwarebytes for Windows
Use this only if you intend to remove the desktop Malwarebytes application—not merely its ad blocker. Uninstalling the Windows application and removing Browser Guard are separate actions, so verify the extension list afterward.

Malwarebytes’ uninstall flow
- Open Start, Settings, or Control Panel and find Malwarebytes.
- Start the uninstall process.
- Select a reason, or choose No special reason.
- Select Next, then choose Uninstall Malwarebytes.
- Submit or skip feedback if prompted.
- Confirm the uninstall in the Malwarebytes pop-up.
- Select Done when the process finishes.

Windows Settings or Control Panel
Windows also provides these standard routes:
- Settings: Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps, find Malwarebytes, open its menu, and select Uninstall.
- Control Panel: Open Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features, select Malwarebytes, and choose Uninstall.
Microsoft documents both methods in its guide to uninstalling Windows apps and programs.
If normal uninstall fails
Use Malwarebytes’ official Support Tool instead of manually deleting program folders or using an unverified removal utility. The clean option removes application files and configurations and requires Microsoft .NET Framework 4.8.
- Download the Malwarebytes Support Tool.
- Run the downloaded file, such as
mb-support-x.x.x.xxx.exe. - Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Accept the license agreement.
- Open Advanced.
- Select Clean, then confirm with Yes.
- Restart the computer.
- After the restart, allow the post-reboot cleanup to finish.

If websites still do not load
Test one layer at a time. Ads/Trackers blocking, malicious-site protection, Windows Web Protection, another ad blocker, a VPN, an antivirus web shield, or browser privacy settings may be involved.
Check Web Protection separately
In Malwarebytes for Windows, open the Real-Time Protection card and use the Web Protection toggle. Confirm the User Account Control prompt if Windows displays one. This is an emergency troubleshooting step, not the normal way to remove ads.
Web Protection blocks access to malicious domains and IP addresses. Turning it off removes that real-time protection layer. Malwarebytes also documents reported compatibility issues involving Windows Filtering Platform software, including some AdGuard configurations, antivirus products, VPN threat-protection tools, and other filtering applications. That does not mean every listed product conflicts on every computer.
After testing, re-enable Web Protection. If the connection works only with it disabled, investigate the conflicting application or contact Malwarebytes support rather than leaving all web protections off.

If the extension is unfamiliar or keeps returning
Check the exact extension name and publisher before removing it. If it is not Malwarebytes Browser Guard, another extension may be responsible. Also check whether it is installed in multiple browsers, restored by browser synchronization, controlled by a work or school policy, or reintroduced by a Malwarebytes installation prompt.
If an unknown extension appeared unexpectedly, review recently installed software and scan the computer. Microsoft describes potentially unwanted applications as software that can produce unexpected advertisements, slowdowns, or additional unwanted installations; see its guidance on potentially unwanted applications.
What protection is lost?
- Allow-listing one site: Creates a limited exception; protection remains active on other sites and in other categories.
- Turning off Ads/Trackers: Restores advertising globally while leaving other Browser Guard categories enabled, if you do not disable them separately.
- Removing Browser Guard: Removes its browser-level ad, tracker, scam, phishing, and malicious-site protections.
- Turning off Web Protection: Removes Malwarebytes’ real-time blocking of malicious domains and IP addresses.
- Uninstalling Malwarebytes for Windows: Removes the desktop application’s scanning and real-time protection. Make sure another reputable security solution is active.

Is Browser Guard part of Malwarebytes for Windows?
It is a separate browser extension, even though it is made by Malwarebytes. The desktop application and the extension should be managed and removed independently.

Will uninstalling Malwarebytes for Windows remove Browser Guard?
Do not assume it will. After uninstalling the desktop app, check the installed extensions in every browser and remove Browser Guard there if it remains.
Why are ads still blocked after I disable Malwarebytes?
Another extension or feature may be responsible, such as uBlock Origin, AdGuard, browser tracking protection, an antivirus web shield, or VPN threat protection. Check blockers one at a time.
Why did disabling Web Protection affect internet access?
Web Protection filters access to malicious domains and IP addresses and can interact with other Windows Filtering Platform software. If disabling it changes connectivity, re-enable it after testing and investigate the conflicting security or filtering product.
What if Malwarebytes Browser Guard is not listed?
The block may come from another extension, browser privacy setting, Malwarebytes Web Protection, or security software. Identify the exact warning or blocked-page message before changing protections.
