Remove DriverPack through Windows’ normal uninstall tools, then scan with Windows Security and Malwarebytes. An unexpected installation or a PUA:Win32/DriverPack alert usually indicates potentially unwanted software rather than proof of a destructive virus, but bundled installers can bring additional threats. Do not delete hardware drivers or random files merely because their names contain “DRP.”
What a DriverPack detection means
DriverPack is associated with automated driver installation and updating. Its security significance depends on how it arrived, what component was detected, and what else is happening on the computer.

Escalate the incident. A downloader detection indicates a possible path to additional payloads, not merely an unwanted driver utility. Historical reports link this name with some DriverPack-related cases. Microsoft Q&A discussion |
Classify the event using the detection name and path, publisher and digital signature, installation date, whether you authorized the installation, other detections, changed browser behavior, and whether the alert returns after quarantine and a reboot. VirusTotal can provide a secondary opinion, but disagreement among scanners does not prove that a file is safe or malicious.

- Save open work and back up important files if Windows is stable.
- Write down the complete detection name, file path and detection time.
- If you see active downloads, suspicious network activity or rapidly changing files, disconnect from the internet temporarily.
- Do not download an unofficial “DriverPack removal tool.” It may be another PUP or a scam.
- Do not delete files from
AppData,ProgramData,System32or the registry just because their names containDRP. - Removing the DriverPack updater is not the same as removing a hardware driver it installed. Do not remove a driver unless you are deliberately rolling it back and know which device it serves.
If ransomware, credential theft, banking fraud, disabled security software, or business-data exposure is suspected, stop ordinary cleanup and seek incident-response help. Change potentially exposed passwords from a known-clean device.

Uninstall DriverPack normally
Windows 11
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps, then Installed apps.
- Search for DriverPack, DriverPack Notifier, and unfamiliar programs installed at the same time.
- Open the program menu, choose Uninstall, and complete the vendor’s uninstaller.
- Restart when prompted.
Windows 10
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps, then Apps & features.
- Select DriverPack, DriverPack Notifier, or a related suspicious entry and choose Uninstall.
- Complete the prompts and restart.
If it is not listed
Check Control Panel → Programs → Programs and Features, the Start-menu shortcut’s Uninstall entry, and the application directory for an official uninstaller. An absent entry can mean the program was portable, incompletely installed, already partly removed, or installed by another package. Do not make deleting the folder your first step.
Scan with Windows Security and Malwarebytes
Microsoft Defender
- Open Windows Security and update its security intelligence.
- Open Virus & threat protection → Scan options.
- Run a Full scan.
- If the detection returns, cannot be removed, or appears persistent, run Microsoft Defender Offline scan. Windows restarts and scans before the normal desktop loads.
Malwarebytes
- Download Malwarebytes from its official download page.
- Install it, update the database, and run a threat scan. Use a deeper or custom scan when symptoms continue.
- Review detections, quarantine confirmed unwanted or malicious items, and restart if requested.
- Run a follow-up scan after the restart.
Malwarebytes describes its free product as an on-demand cleanup tool; Premium adds ongoing real-time protection. A clean result is evidence, not a mathematical guarantee that every threat is absent. Keep one primary real-time antivirus active rather than running several real-time engines together. Different products use different signatures, heuristics, cloud decisions and PUA policies, so Defender and Malwarebytes can disagree without either result automatically being a false positive. Microsoft’s discussion of conflicting results documents this type of confusion.

Repair browser changes
If you have redirects, pop-ups, unfamiliar search pages or extensions:
- Remove extensions you do not recognize.
- Revoke notification permission for suspicious websites.
- Restore your preferred search engine and startup page.
- Reset the affected browser if the changes persist, checking what the reset preserves before confirming.
For adware, PUPs, browser hijackers and unwanted browser policies, run the free Malwarebytes AdwCleaner. A browser reset does not necessarily remove the Windows application, scheduled task or service that caused the change.

If DriverPack returns after removal
A recurring detection means you should investigate the source instead of repeatedly deleting the visible file.
- Check Settings → Apps and recently installed programs for a related installer.
- Review Task Manager → Startup apps, Task Scheduler, services, browser extensions and browser policies.
- Review Defender and Malwarebytes quarantine histories.
- Identify the original download that delivered DriverPack; it may have installed other unwanted software.
- Record the full path, detection name, timestamp and process responsible, then submit the sample to the security vendor or seek guided analysis.
Autoruns and Task Scheduler can help an experienced user identify persistence, but disable only entries you can positively identify. Do not publish or apply speculative registry paths or filenames from old forum posts.

How to handle leftover files
- In antivirus quarantine: Leave the item quarantined while confirming stability, then clear quarantine through the security product.
- Obvious DriverPack residue: Remove it only after uninstalling the application and confirming the location and ownership.
- System directory, signed file or hardware-driver path: Do not delete manually.
- Detection returns: Preserve the path and evidence for guided analysis rather than guessing which file to remove.
Community reports mention DRP folders under application-data locations, but those are case-specific observations, not a universal deletion list. See the historical report.

- Restart Windows.
- Update Windows Security and Malwarebytes.
- Run a second scan, including Defender Offline if the alert was persistent.
- Confirm that redirects, pop-ups, unknown extensions and recurring detections have stopped.
- Check that affected hardware still works. If a device fails, inspect Device Manager and roll back or reinstall the correct manufacturer driver rather than deleting more files.
When ordinary cleanup is enough—and when to escalate
Usually sufficient
- DriverPack is the only detection.
- It was an unexpected or bundled PUA.
- No persistence, redirects, credential theft or additional malware is present.
- The alert disappears after uninstall, quarantine, reboot and follow-up scans.
Escalate promptly
- A Trojan downloader, credential stealer, ransomware, botnet or backdoor is also detected.
- The same threat returns after reboot.
- Security tools are disabled or blocked.
- Browser policies, unknown services, administrator accounts or scheduled tasks cannot be removed.
- Passwords or financial information were entered while the system was affected.
- Work, regulated or customer data may have been exposed.
Prevent a repeat
- Get drivers from the computer or hardware manufacturer whenever possible.
- Avoid cracked software and bundled download sites.
- Use custom installation and decline optional components.
- Keep Windows, browsers and security definitions current.
- Maintain tested backups.
Optional tools, not requirements
For a one-time cleanup, start with Windows Security and Malwarebytes Free. Use AdwCleaner when browser symptoms remain. Malwarebytes Premium is an optional choice for ongoing real-time protection, not a requirement for removing DriverPack; the product page does not establish a universal need to purchase it. Do not pay for registry cleaners, aggressive driver updaters or unverified removal utilities.
