On a computer, right-click the bookmark and choose Delete. On Android, open More → Bookmarks, tap the menu beside the bookmark, then tap Delete. On iPhone or iPad, open Chrome’s bookmarks and use the item’s edit or options control to delete it. If you only want to remove the row beneath the address bar, hide the bookmarks bar instead—your bookmarks will remain saved.
Delete a bookmark on a computer
These steps apply to Chrome on Windows, macOS, Chromebook, and Linux. If the bookmark is visible on the bookmarks bar, or inside one of its folders:
- Right-click the bookmark you want to remove.
- Select Delete.
To find a bookmark that is not on the bar, open Chrome’s Bookmark Manager. Select More (the three-dot menu) in the upper-right corner, then choose Bookmarks and lists → Bookmark manager or Show all bookmarks. Menu wording can vary by Chrome version. You can also open Bookmark Manager with Ctrl + Shift + O on Windows, Chromebook, and Linux, or Command + Shift + O on Mac.

In Bookmark Manager, find the item, open its three-dot menu or right-click it, and choose Delete. This is usually the clearest way to inspect folders and remove a bookmark that is nested somewhere in your collection. Google’s Chrome bookmark help covers managing bookmarks on a computer.

Clicking the star beside the address bar is not the most reliable deletion method: depending on the interface, it may open an edit dialog. Use the bookmark’s menu or Bookmark Manager and choose Delete.
Delete bookmarks on Android
- Open Chrome and tap More (the three-dot menu).
- Tap Bookmarks.
- Find the bookmark. Use the search field if your list is long.
- Tap More beside that bookmark, then tap Delete.
If Chrome’s address bar is at the bottom, you may need to swipe up on it to reach the menu. On Android tablets, Chrome may show a bookmarks bar and a more desktop-like layout, so controls can differ from the phone steps. See Google’s Android bookmark instructions.

Delete bookmarks on iPhone or iPad
- Open Chrome and open the More menu.
- Tap Bookmarks.
- Locate the bookmark and use its edit or options control.
- Choose Delete. If your version offers a swipe-to-delete gesture, you can use that instead.
Chrome’s iPhone and iPad controls are not identical to Android’s, and labels may vary by app version. If you do not see a delete control beside the item, look for an Edit option in the bookmarks view. Google’s iOS bookmark help provides device-specific guidance.
Delete several bookmarks or a folder
Use Bookmark Manager on a computer when cleaning up more than one item. It shows bookmarks in their folders, making it easier to check what you are removing. Select the items using the controls available in your version of Chrome, then delete them. Because multi-selection can vary by interface, review the selected items before confirming.

Before deleting a folder, open it and check what it contains: deleting the folder can remove the bookmarks inside it too. Consider exporting important bookmarks before a large cleanup. Chrome does not provide a guaranteed normal recovery path for deleted bookmarks.
Hide the bookmarks bar without deleting bookmarks
If your goal is only to remove the row of links below the address bar, toggle the bar off rather than deleting its contents. Press Ctrl + Shift + B on Windows, Chromebook, or Linux. On Mac, use Chrome’s menu or appearance settings to turn off Show bookmarks bar. Google documents the bar shortcut in its bookmark help.

Hiding the bar leaves the bookmarks saved. A bar that is not visible does not mean the bookmarks were deleted; check Bookmark Manager to confirm they are still there. If the bar is missing unexpectedly, try the shortcut or enable Show bookmarks bar in Chrome’s appearance settings. A small window or limited screen space can also affect whether the bar is shown.

It can, if the bookmark is synchronized. Google says bookmarks are available on devices where you are signed in to Chrome. A deletion on one device may therefore propagate to other devices using the same Chrome profile and account. See Google’s overview of Chrome across devices.

That is not universal: bookmarks may be local to a profile or device, and sync settings, account, connectivity, and timing matter. Before deleting a bookmark you want to keep elsewhere, check the Chrome profile and account you are using and whether bookmark sync is enabled. A bookmark missing on one device may be in another profile or account rather than deleted.
If a bookmark keeps coming back
- Check the profile and account. Confirm the Chrome profile icon and signed-in Google account on the device where you deleted the bookmark and the one where it reappears.
- Look in Bookmark Manager. The item may still exist in another folder, or the visible item may be a shortcut or suggestion rather than a bookmark.
- Check sync. Give Chrome time to synchronize, and review bookmark sync settings on the devices using that profile. Another device or profile that still has a copy may be involved.
- Check whether editing is restricted. On a workplace or school device, an administrator can disable bookmark editing through Chrome policy. If the delete option is unavailable, ask the administrator. See the Chrome Enterprise EditBookmarksEnabled policy.
Can you recover a deleted Chrome bookmark?
Google’s bookmark help warns that a deleted bookmark cannot be recovered through Chrome’s normal interface. Do not count on a recycle bin or an undo prompt. If Chrome happens to show an undo option immediately after deletion, use it at once, but it is not guaranteed.
For future cleanups, export bookmarks you want to preserve before deleting a large number of them. If you know the website address, you can create the bookmark again: open the page and press Ctrl + D on Windows, Chromebook, or Linux, or Command + D on Mac. On a phone or tablet, use Chrome’s Add to bookmarks control. Google lists these shortcuts in its Chrome tips.
