Set a post-submission confirmation or action in your form plugin, then choose a published WordPress page or enter a destination URL. The menu is plugin-specific: WPForms uses Settings → Confirmations, Elementor uses Action After Submit, and Gravity Forms uses Confirmations. Contact Form 7 needs a redirection extension for this workflow.
Choose the redirect behavior first
Decide whether every successful submission should go to one destination or whether the destination should change according to an answer. A fixed redirect is suitable for a general thank-you page, download, appointment scheduler, or external service. Conditional routing is useful when different answers require different next steps, but its availability depends on the plugin and plan.
- Internal page: sends visitors to a page on the same WordPress site. Create and publish the page before selecting it.
- Arbitrary URL: sends visitors to any complete URL, including another website.
- Query-string data: appends submitted values or other parameters to the destination URL. Use this only when the receiving page is designed to read those parameters.
- Conditional destination: chooses a page or URL based on submitted answers. Confirm that your installed tier supports conditional redirects.
Regardless of the route, make the destination clearly confirm that the submission succeeded. A redirect that looks like an unrelated page can leave users unsure whether their form was received.
WPForms: Settings → Confirmations
- Open the form in the WPForms builder.
- Go to Settings → Confirmations.
- Choose Show Page to send visitors to a published page on the same site, or choose Go to URL (Redirect) to enter a full URL, including an external destination.
- Select or enter the destination and save the form.
For Show Page, the page must already exist and be published. WPForms also supports URL parameters for confirmation destinations, so verify that the receiving page expects the parameter names and values you send.

WPForms Lite can send all submissions to one page or URL. Conditional redirects based on a submitted answer are documented as a WPForms Pro feature, so do not assume that every redirect rule requires a paid plan—or that every conditional option is available in Lite.
Developer option: change the redirect URL with a filter
Developers can use the wpforms_process_redirect_url filter to load a redirect URL during form processing. The form’s confirmation type must be Go to URL (Redirect). Add and test custom code in a suitable site-specific plugin or child-theme setup rather than editing a plugin file, which would be overwritten by updates.

Elementor Form widget: Action After Submit
- Edit the page containing the Elementor Form widget.
- Open the widget’s Action After Submit section.
- Add Redirect to the actions.
- Expand the new Redirect action and enter the destination in Redirect To.
- Publish or update the page, then submit a test entry.
Elementor instructs you to leave the default Collect Submissions and Email actions in place. Adding a redirect changes what happens after success; it does not require removing storage or notification actions.
Gravity Forms: Confirmations
- Edit the form and open its settings.
- Choose Confirmations.
- Select the confirmation type that fits your goal: display text, show a page on the same site, or redirect to a full URL.
- Configure the destination and save the confirmation.
Gravity Forms supports passing form data through query-string merge tags for page and redirect confirmations. Before publishing, check every parameter name. Gravity Forms warns that reserved WordPress terms can break a destination; for example, using name can produce a 404 when the target is a WordPress URL. Prefer distinctive names such as customer_name and confirm that the destination handles URL encoding and privacy appropriately.

Contact Form 7: add a redirection extension
Contact Form 7 does not provide the same built-in redirect confirmation workflow described above. The WordPress.org-listed Redirection for Contact Form 7 extension adds submission actions, including redirecting to a URL and appending form fields as query parameters.
- Open the extension’s current WordPress.org listing and verify compatibility with your installed Contact Form 7 version before installing. The listing specifies Contact Form 7 version 4.8 or later, but compatibility can change.
- Install and activate the extension from the WordPress dashboard.
- Open the relevant Contact Form 7 form and configure its redirect action and destination URL.
- If you append fields as query parameters, use parameter names your receiving page explicitly supports.
- Save the form and test both a successful submission and a validation failure.
The extension’s PRO tier lists conditional actions and additional integrations, but those paid capabilities are not necessary for a simple fixed redirect.

Internal page, external URL, or conditional route?

Test the redirect before publishing
- Open the live or staging page in a private browser window.
- Submit valid data and confirm that the expected page or URL loads.
- Check that the destination visibly confirms success and contains the promised next step.
- Verify that the original submission was stored and that notification emails still arrive when those actions are enabled.
- Submit invalid or incomplete data. The form should show validation errors instead of redirecting.
- If you use query parameters, inspect the final URL and confirm that the receiving page reads each expected value.
- Repeat the test on mobile and, when relevant, while logged out.
Common redirect problems
The redirect option is missing
Confirm which form plugin actually renders the form. WordPress has no universal redirect menu; the setting belongs to the active builder or an add-on. In Contact Form 7, install a compatible redirection extension.
The selected page cannot be found
For WPForms, create and publish the destination page before choosing Show Page. Check that the page was not moved to draft or deleted.

The destination returns a 404
Review the URL and query parameters. In Gravity Forms, avoid reserved WordPress terms such as name as a query parameter for a WordPress destination.
Visitors do not know whether the form worked
Improve the destination page’s heading and copy so it states that the submission was received and explains what happens next. If an external site opens, identify that transition before sending users away.
Conditional rules behave like a fixed redirect
Check the plugin tier and rule order. WPForms documents conditional redirects as a Pro capability, while a single fixed destination is available in Lite.
Privacy and reliability considerations
Query strings appear in browser history, server logs, analytics tools, screenshots, and sometimes referrer data. Do not pass passwords, payment details, health information, or other sensitive form values in a URL. For personal data, prefer a server-side handoff or a destination that retrieves the submission securely.

Keep the form’s normal processing actions enabled unless you intentionally want to disable them. A redirect controls the visitor’s next page; it does not, by itself, guarantee that entries are stored, emails are sent, or integrations complete.
