You can’t legitimately reveal or retrieve another person’s Facebook password. Facebook’s recovery tools reset access after checking account ownership; they don’t show a person’s current password. If you’re locked out of your own account, use Facebook’s official recovery steps below. If you’re worried about someone else’s account, ask for their consent or report the issue rather than trying to get in.
Choose the right route for your situation

Facebook’s recovery hub separates forgotten-password, hacked-account, lost-contact-information, locked-account, and two-factor-authentication problems. The exact screens and labels can vary by device, app version, language, and account status. See Facebook’s recovery options.
Reset a forgotten password on your own account
- Open Facebook’s login page or official app and choose Forgot password? or the recovery option shown.
- Enter an email address, mobile number, name, or username associated with your account.
- Choose an available recovery method and enter the confirmation code Facebook sends.
- Set a new, unique password that you do not use on other sites.
- After signing in, review active sessions and sign out devices you don’t recognize. Then enable two-factor authentication.
This process resets access; it does not disclose the old password. If you’re already logged in on one of your own devices but can’t remember the password, use Facebook’s security settings to change it rather than trying to extract a saved credential.

If your account may have been hacked
Use Facebook’s hacked-account recovery page, ideally from a phone, computer, or browser you’ve used to sign in before. Facebook recommends using a familiar device during recovery because it may help identify the account.

Look for signs such as posts or messages you didn’t make, changed profile details or recovery information, unexpected login alerts, or unfamiliar devices and locations. Follow Facebook’s prompts to identify the account and secure it. If the attacker changed your email, phone number, password, or two-factor settings, use the hacked-account route rather than repeatedly trying old passwords.
Also secure the email account linked to Facebook. If someone controls that inbox, they may be able to request further resets. Change any other account that reused the compromised password, and review Facebook’s logged-in devices and connected services after you regain access. If you lost access to your old email address or phone
- When possible, start on a device and browser you previously used for Facebook.
- Visit facebook.com/login/identify.
- Search for the account using any email address, phone number, username, or account name that might be associated with it.
- If Facebook offers an option such as No longer have access to these?, Forgot account?, or Recover, follow that route.
- Provide new contact information if requested, then complete Facebook’s identity and security checks. Reset the password only after Facebook confirms account ownership.
Facebook may require identity confirmation, and it says new recovery contact information may need to be information that was not previously used on the account. Recovery is not guaranteed: it depends on whether Facebook can verify that you own the account. See Facebook’s recovery guidance for lost email or phone access.

When a reset code doesn’t arrive
- Check spam, junk, blocked-message folders, and any SMS filters.
- Make sure the email address or phone number shown in the recovery flow is one you can access and is correct.
- Check your internet connection and mobile reception. For texts, consider blocked messages, phone storage, and carrier restrictions.
- Avoid requesting codes repeatedly; multiple requests can cause confusion or delays. Wait before trying again.
- Try recovery in a mobile browser if the app is not working, and use a familiar device if available.
- If you suspect your email account is compromised, recover and secure it first.
Never give a confirmation code or password to someone who contacts you claiming to be Facebook support. Use Facebook’s own recovery screens. Its troubleshooting pages cover password and code problems and account-lock issues.

Secure the account after you get back in
- Set a unique Facebook password, and change the password for the associated email account if it may have been exposed.
- Turn on two-factor authentication.
- Review Where you’re logged in and sign out unfamiliar sessions.
- Remove apps, browsers, extensions, and connected services you don’t recognize or no longer use.
- Check recent posts, messages, Marketplace activity, payment activity, and advertising accounts for changes you didn’t make.
- Confirm the recovery email address and phone number are yours.
- Tell contacts if scam messages may have been sent from your account.
- Update your operating system and browser, and scan your devices if you suspect malware.
- Store the new password in a reputable password manager rather than reusing it or sharing it.
Changing the Facebook password is important, but it may not be enough if someone still controls your email, has access to an active session, or has compromised your device. CISA recommends unique passwords, password managers, multifactor authentication, software updates, and caution with suspicious links. Why to avoid “Facebook password finder” services
Sites, apps, browser extensions, and videos claiming they can reveal someone’s Facebook password are not legitimate account-recovery tools. They may be phishing traps, malware or spyware, fake payment or “human verification” schemes, remote-access scams, or attempts to steal login details or session access. Do not enter your own Facebook credentials into them, install their software, pay a supposed hacker, or share a recovery code.

Trying to access another person’s account through deception, spyware, password guessing, or other unauthorized means may violate criminal, privacy, employment, or computer-access laws, depending on the jurisdiction and circumstances. Possessing someone’s device, being a partner or relative, or knowing personal details does not automatically give you permission to access a private account.
If the concern involves a child, partner, employee, or family member
Ask the account holder to share access voluntarily when appropriate. Parents can use built-in family-safety or parental-control tools where lawful and suitable; employers should follow written policies, obtain proper authorization, and use business-account administration rather than personal-password access. For immediate danger, harassment, exploitation, fraud, or threats, preserve relevant evidence and contact Facebook, a school or employer, an attorney, or law enforcement as appropriate. Secretly installing spyware or impersonating the account holder is not a safe substitute for those steps.

Impersonation or abuse does not require password access
If a fake account is impersonating you, or you need evidence of abuse or fraud, preserve relevant messages, profile details, and dates, then report the account or conduct through Facebook. Don’t try to break into the account to investigate it. A disabled or suspended account is also different from a forgotten password or a hacked account; follow the specific notice or appeal route Facebook provides.

If it is your account and device, use Facebook’s security settings to change the password. Then review active sessions and enable two-factor authentication.
What should I do if a message asks for my recovery code?
Do not share it. Complete recovery only through Facebook’s official app or website; a person contacting you should not need your password or confirmation code.
