On Windows, the quickest built-in way to record what is happening in an Edge window is Xbox Game Bar: enable it in Windows Settings, open Edge, press Windows+Alt+R to start, then press the same shortcut to stop. The recording is saved as an MP4 in Videos > Captures, according to Microsoft Support. If you need to choose a browser tab, a different window, or the whole screen, use Clipchamp’s recorder in Edge instead.
Choose the recording method that matches what you need
The right choice depends on the capture target and the audio you need. Xbox Game Bar is the fast Windows option for recording Edge content. Clipchamp is the documented choice when you need to select a specific browser tab, window, or the entire screen. On macOS, the Clipchamp screen-recording flow may require system permission before it can capture.

Microsoft says Clipchamp’s Edge experience supports Edge 79 and newer on Windows 10, Windows 11, and macOS. That is the documented browser and operating-system scope for this experience; it does not mean every recording option behaves identically on each platform.
Record an Edge window with Xbox Game Bar on Windows
- Open Windows Settings and search for Xbox Game Bar.
- Enable Xbox Game Bar if it is off.
- Open the Edge window or app content you want to record. Arrange the page first so the relevant content is visible.
- Press Windows+Alt+R to start recording.
- To include or mute microphone narration during the recording, press Windows+Alt+M to toggle the microphone.
- Press Windows+Alt+R again to stop.
- Open Videos > Captures and select the MP4 file.
Microsoft describes Xbox Game Bar as a way to record a clip of what is happening on your screen. The shortcut starts and stops the clip; it is not the Clipchamp selection dialog, so use Clipchamp when choosing between a browser tab, a window, and the entire screen matters.

Before you start
- Open the exact Edge page or content you intend to show, and close or move anything you do not want visible.
- If narration matters, check the microphone state with Windows+Alt+M before speaking. It toggles the mic; do not assume it is enabled.
- For system or device audio, use Clipchamp’s screen-sharing option if it offers Share system audio for your selection.
- Make a short test clip when the recording is important. Confirm both the picture and the audio before recording a longer take.
Record a specific Edge tab or the full screen with Clipchamp
Clipchamp’s recorder in Edge lets you choose among an entire screen, a window, or a browser tab after you select screen sharing. The choice matters: a tab is appropriate when the recording should focus on one page, while an entire-screen selection shows what is displayed across the screen. The dialog may also offer Share system audio to include device audio.
- Open Clipchamp in Microsoft Edge and start its screen-recording flow.
- Choose the screen-sharing option when prompted.
- Select Entire screen, the target Window, or the desired Browser tab.
- If you need device audio and the option is available, check Share system audio.
- Allow the relevant Edge permissions if prompted, then begin the recording and stop it when finished.
- Review the recording and confirm that the selected content and intended audio were captured.
The selection dialog is the important difference from the quick Game Bar route: Clipchamp explicitly offers a choice of capture target. Camera or microphone access can also depend on Edge’s site permissions, even when the screen-sharing choice itself is available.
Allow Clipchamp or SharePoint camera and microphone access in Edge
If camera or microphone permission was denied, Microsoft’s documented Edge path is Settings > Privacy, search, and services > Site permissions > All sites. Find the Clipchamp or SharePoint URL involved in the recording, then set Camera and/or Microphone to Allow as needed. Permission changes apply to the relevant site, so check the site entry rather than assuming a browser-wide setting has fixed it.

Allow screen recording on macOS
On a Mac, the first recording attempt may require enabling Microsoft Edge under System Settings > Privacy & Security > Screen & System Audio Recording. After allowing access, restart Edge and try again. This is a macOS system permission, separate from Edge’s site-level camera and microphone permissions.

A work or school policy can disable capture
On managed devices, an administrator can block webpage screen sharing through Edge’s ScreenCaptureAllowed policy. Microsoft documents that this policy can deny APIs such as getDisplayMedia() and the Desktop Capture extension API. It is documented for Windows and macOS version 83 or newer and Android 147 or newer; Microsoft says there is no iOS support for this policy. Origin-specific policies can override the general policy, so access may differ by site. If the device is managed, ask the organization’s administrator whether the policy applies rather than trying to bypass it.

Screen capture, microphone access, and camera access are distinct permissions. If video appears but narration is missing, check the microphone toggle or the site’s microphone permission. If a macOS capture attempt fails, check the operating system’s screen-recording permission for Edge. If one site behaves differently from another on a managed device, an origin-specific policy may be responsible.
Extensions add options, but verify them before installing
An Edge Add-ons listing for Awesome Screen Recorder reports version 4.3.6, updated April 27, 2026. The listing describes features including desktop, tab, or camera recording; microphone and webcam inclusion; annotation; local saving; MP4/WebM downloads; and sharing. Marketplace details can change, and these are listing claims rather than a guarantee for every Edge version or device. Before installing an extension, check its current compatibility information and privacy disclosures, especially if recording sensitive pages or using a work account.

Troubleshooting common recording problems
