You cannot recall an email after it has been sent in Yahoo Mail. Deleting it from your Sent folder removes only your copy; it does not remove the recipient’s copy. Send a correction immediately and ask the recipient to disregard or delete the original.
Can you recall a sent email in Yahoo Mail?
No. Yahoo’s help guidance states that sent emails cannot be recalled. Yahoo Mail does not provide a recipient-side recall command that retrieves a delivered message from someone else’s mailbox.
A recall is different from deleting your own copy or canceling a message before it leaves an email service. Once Yahoo Mail has sent the message, you cannot control whether the recipient has read, downloaded, forwarded, saved, or automatically forwarded it.
What to do immediately after sending the wrong email
- Send a correction quickly. Open a new compose window rather than searching for a nonexistent Recall button.
- Use a clear subject. For example, “Correction to my previous email,” “Please disregard previous message,” or “Corrected attachment.”
- Explain the mistake briefly. Provide the correct information or attachment.
- Request deletion. Ask the recipient not to use, forward, or retain the original message.
- Escalate sensitive incidents. If the message contained passwords, access tokens, personal data, financial information, or confidential business material, contact the appropriate manager, IT/security team, legal counsel, or privacy officer under your organization’s procedures.

Do not say that the original email has been “recalled” or “deleted,” because Yahoo Mail cannot confirm either outcome.
If the message is still a draft
An unsent draft can be edited or deleted. In Yahoo Mail on the web:

- Open Yahoo Mail and select Drafts.
- Open the message you want to change.
- Correct the recipients, subject, message, or attachment.
- Review everything again, then send it—or delete the draft.
Yahoo says composing messages are automatically saved in Drafts for review before sending. Labels and layouts can vary by browser, app version, region, and Yahoo Mail interface.

No. Selecting a message in Sent and clicking Delete changes only your Yahoo Mail account. It does not remove the recipient’s copy, stop a download, or erase forwarded and saved versions. Yahoo’s message-deletion guidance describes mailbox management, not recipient-side recall.

Deleting the message from Trash only removes your remaining local copy. It still has no effect on delivery.
Can Yahoo recover a deleted sent email?
Yahoo offers a separate restore-request process for messages that were recently deleted or lost. According to Yahoo’s recovery guidance, messages may be eligible if they disappeared within the last seven days, although restoration is not guaranteed. Messages from Sent, Archive, and custom folders may be restored to the Inbox.

This process recovers your copy in your Yahoo account. It does not recall the email from the recipient’s mailbox and does not prove that delivery was canceled.

What if the address was wrong?
Invalid address
If the address does not exist or the receiving server rejects the message, you may receive a bounce or delivery-failure notice. Do not assume a bounce is guaranteed; delivery behavior depends on the address and receiving server. Correct the address and resend the message if necessary.

Valid but wrong recipient
Send a correction immediately and ask the recipient to delete the original without forwarding it. If the message contained sensitive information, notify the appropriate security, privacy, or management contact instead of relying only on the follow-up email.
The recipient says they have not opened it
An unread message is not recalled. It may still appear in notifications, be accessible through a mobile app or other mail client, or be automatically forwarded. Ask the recipient to delete it, but do not claim that it has been remotely removed.
What if the email contained a confidential attachment or link?
A follow-up message cannot reliably undo an attachment that has already been downloaded. Take the appropriate containment steps as quickly as possible:
- Revoke access to a cloud document or shared file.
- Change a password if credentials were exposed.
- Disable or rotate an API key, access token, or other secret.
- Ask the recipient to delete the email and attachment.
- Preserve the relevant message, timestamps, recipients, and delivery details for an incident report.
- Contact your organization’s security or privacy team when required by internal policy.
Revoking a shared link can limit future access, but it cannot erase the original email or a file someone has already downloaded. Whether an incident creates a legal or regulatory obligation depends on the jurisdiction, organization, contract, and type of information involved.

- Check every recipient, especially autocomplete suggestions and large recipient lists.
- Confirm the attachment is correct and that links have the intended permissions.
- Keep sensitive messages in Drafts until you have reviewed them.
- Use a separate approval or confirmation process for credentials, personal data, financial information, and confidential documents.
- If your particular Yahoo Mail interface offers a sending-delay or review control, verify its availability and behavior for your account and region before relying on it. Do not assume it is equivalent to a true recall.
