Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteHow you change the WordPress post editing screen depends on what you mean by “rearrange.” In the Block Editor, you can show or hide sections in the settings sidebar; WordPress does not document a general control for reordering those sections. To change the order of text, images, or other post content, move the blocks instead. In the Classic Editor, use Screen Options to show or hide available fields.
First, identify which WordPress editor you are using
The Block Editor is WordPress’s default editor, while the Classic Editor is available through the Classic Editor plugin. Their controls are different, so identify the screen before following the steps below. In the Block Editor, the sidebar can show settings for the whole post or page, or settings for the selected block. In the Classic Editor, Screen Options controls which post fields are visible. Themes, plugins, and post types can also affect which sections appear.
If you see a block-based writing canvas and a settings gear in the top toolbar, you are in the Block Editor. If you see the older editing form with a Screen Options tab above it, you are in the Classic Editor. See the WordPress guides to the Block Editor and writing posts in the Classic Editor.
Block Editor: show or hide settings panels
Use Preferences to choose which post-level panels appear in the settings sidebar. Hiding a panel declutters the sidebar; it does not move the panel above or below another one.

- Open the post in the Block Editor.
- Select the three vertical dots in the upper-right of the top toolbar.
- Select Preferences.
- Under General, find Document settings. Turn on the sections you want to see in the Page/Post Settings Sidebar, and turn off those you do not want displayed.
WordPress describes Document settings as the place to choose which panels appear in the Page/Post Settings Sidebar. The available panels can vary with the active theme and plugins. See the Preferences overview.
Open the sidebar or switch its settings scope
Select the gear or settings icon in the upper-right of the editor to open or close the sidebar. In the sidebar, choose Post or Page for settings that apply to the whole item, or Block for settings for the selected block. These tabs change which settings you are viewing, not the order of the panels. WordPress explains the sidebar in its Page/Post Settings sidebar guide.

Change the workspace appearance
Preferences also includes workspace options such as Top toolbar, Distraction free, and Spotlight mode. These alter the editor interface rather than the post content. Distraction free mode hides interface elements while you write; it does not delete them.
Block Editor: change the order of post content
If you want to move paragraphs, images, or other content, move their blocks. This changes the post’s content order, not the order of settings panels.

- Move one position: Select a block and use the up or down arrows in its toolbar.
- Drag from the canvas: Select the six-dot handle and drag the block to its new position.
- Use List View: Open List View from the top toolbar, then drag a block up or down in the structured outline. List View can make long posts and nested Group, Columns, or Cover layouts easier to navigate.
Drag-and-drop from the canvas is unavailable when the block toolbar is pinned to the top of the editor. Use the move arrows or List View instead. WordPress’s Moving blocks guide says WordPress 6.9 adds live visual feedback while dragging blocks.

In the Classic Editor, use Screen Options at the top of the editing screen. Check a field to display it or uncheck it to hide it. WordPress saves these choices, so you do not need to set them again each time. This is a visibility control for available fields, not a way to reorder post content.
