To permanently delete a Snapchat account, sign in to Snapchat’s official accounts portal, choose Delete my account, enter your password and select Continue. Snapchat first deactivates the account for 30 days. If you want the deletion to proceed, do not log in during that period: logging in can reactivate the account.
Before you delete your account
Deletion can remove information you may want to keep, and the recovery window is limited. Before confirming the request:
- Download your data. Request Snapchat’s My Data export while you can still access your account. An export is not necessarily a playable copy of every Snap or Chat.
- Save wanted Memories. Separately save any photos or videos you want to keep.
- Check subscriptions and purchases. Review and cancel any paid Snapchat-related subscription separately where applicable; do not assume account deletion cancels every billing arrangement. Billing controls can vary by product and platform.
- Confirm your login details. Know your Snapchat username and password before starting. If you have forgotten the password, reset it first.
- Secure an at-risk account. If you suspect someone else has access, secure the associated email account and phone number, then use Snapchat’s official recovery or security process.
- Let important contacts know how to reach you. Deletion may end access to your Snapchat account and its social connections.
How to delete a Snapchat account
On iPhone
- Open Snapchat and tap your profile.
- Tap the Settings gear.
- Under Account Actions, tap Delete Account.
- Follow the prompts to the accounts portal, sign in if asked, enter your password and select Continue.
Snapchat’s iPhone app provides a shortcut, but the official instructions route you to the accounts portal to complete and confirm the request. Menu labels can change; if you do not see the option, use the portal directly.

On Android or a computer
- Go to accounts.snapchat.com.
- Sign in to the account you intend to delete.
- Select Delete my account.
- Enter the account password and select Continue to confirm.
Use Snapchat’s official portal rather than a third-party deletion service. Logging out, uninstalling Snapchat or removing its permissions only affects the app or device; none of those actions submits an account-deletion request.

What happens after you request deletion?
For the United States and Snapchat’s standard regions, the request starts with 30 days of deactivation, not immediate erasure. During that window, the account can be reactivated. If you do not reactivate it, it becomes unrecoverable after the window and Snapchat continues the deletion process.
Snapchat describes a separate data timeline: for standard-region accounts, data can be downloaded during the first 30 days, and Snapchat says it is permanently deleted after 60 days if you neither log in nor download it. These are not the same milestone: 30 days is the stated deactivation and recovery window; 60 days is Snapchat’s stated data-deletion timeline. Neither means that every record is erased instantly when you press the button.

India exception: Snapchat says accounts located in India are deactivated for 30 days, then permanently deleted after an additional 180 days. Its support information describes the data timeline there as 210 days. Do not apply the standard-region schedule to an account located in India.
Dates are approximate because the precise timing depends on Snapchat’s account systems. For example, a standard-region request submitted on August 18 would have a 30-day window ending around September 17, with the stated 60-day data timeline reaching around October 17.

Can you recover a deleted Snapchat account?
You can reactivate an account only while it is within the 30-day deactivation period. Snapchat says to log in through the Snapchat app using the account’s username and password. Logging in is the recovery action, so do not test the login if you want deletion to continue. During deactivation, Snapchat says you cannot log in with the account’s email address or phone number, or change its password.
After the account is permanently deleted, it cannot be reactivated. Snapchat also says its Support team cannot reactivate a deactivated account for you. Read Snapchat’s reactivation instructions if you are deciding whether to restore it.

- Sign in at accounts.snapchat.com.
- Choose My Data.
- Select the data categories you want.
- Choose a date range, or turn off the date-range option to request all available data.
- Confirm the notification email address, then select Submit.
Make the request before deactivation so you can access the portal and receive the export. Review the files once they arrive, and save desired Memories separately; a data export should not be treated as a complete, playable backup of every piece of content.

What deletion removes—and what it may not
Snapchat says its deletion process removes account information such as settings, friends, Snaps, Chats, Memories, device data and location data. It also says some information may be retained for legal, security or business purposes. Examples include purchase records and records showing when you accepted Snapchat’s Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. Its privacy policy material describes circumstances such as legal obligations and abuse or policy investigations that may require information to be preserved.

Account deletion also cannot guarantee removal of copies other people have already saved, screenshotted, recorded, exported or otherwise obtained. That is a practical limit of deleting content after it has reached another person, not a claim that Snapchat’s account-deletion process leaves all shared content online.
Snapchat’s support materials do not establish a universal rule for when a former email address, phone number or username can be reused. Do not count on immediate reuse or assume reuse is impossible.

Troubleshooting account deletion
- Forgot your password? Reset it through Snapchat before starting deletion. The portal requires password authentication.
- Cannot sign in or reach the portal? Check that you are using Snapchat’s official accounts portal, then verify your username and password. If the account is already deactivated, use the username and password for reactivation rather than email or phone login; reactivation may interrupt deletion.
- Account is locked? Follow any appeal or recovery option shown in Snapchat’s app or official support. Access and authentication may be needed before you can submit a deletion request; do not assume Support can manually complete every inaccessible-account deletion.
- Account may be compromised? Secure the email account and phone number connected to Snapchat, then use Snapchat’s official account-security process. Avoid sharing passwords or verification codes with anyone claiming to delete the account for you.
- Cannot find the iPhone menu? App menus can change. Use the accounts portal directly and follow Snapchat’s current support directions.
- Logged in after requesting deletion? Treat the login as a possible reactivation. Check the account’s status through Snapchat’s official channels and, if you still want deletion, submit the request again if needed. Avoid further logins during the new deactivation period.
- Want to remove only particular content? Do not delete the whole account unless that is your goal. Review Snapchat’s privacy and data help options for available content-specific actions.
Delete the account or take a break?
