Use single-app sharing whenever you can. On supported devices running Android 14 QPR2 or later, Android can send only one app window to a meeting or recording app instead of your entire display. That keeps unrelated notifications, navigation, and other apps out of the shared feed. Switch to full-screen sharing only when you deliberately need to demonstrate several apps or Android itself.
The exact buttons vary by Android release, phone maker, and meeting app. The privacy rule does not: participants can see everything displayed inside the app you choose, and a meeting service or another participant may still record the session.
App-only, full-screen, casting, and recording are different

Android’s platform-level app-sharing feature arrived with Android 14 QPR2 through MediaProjection. In supported app-only sessions, Android excludes the status bar, navigation bar, notifications, and other system UI from the captured output. See the Android app screen-sharing documentation.

Before you share: a privacy preflight
- Close private apps, documents, photos, and browser tabs.
- If full-screen sharing is possible, enable Do Not Disturb or hide notification previews.
- Confirm the meeting invitation and participant list; remove anyone who does not need access.
- Open the exact app and page you intend to show before starting.
- Sign out of accounts that are not needed.
- Never enter a password, payment detail, recovery code, or one-time passcode while sharing. Stop first.
- Check whether the meeting may be recorded. A participant can also record with another device.
- For an important presentation, make a short test call with someone you trust.
Google Meet on Android
- Join or start the meeting in the Meet app.
- Tap Share screen; on some builds it is under More options.
- Read Android’s capture warning and confirm.
- If Android presents a choice, select the individual app rather than the entire screen, then choose the app.
- Tap the start command and return to the selected app.
- When finished, return to Meet and tap Stop sharing.
Google’s current Android help uses Share screen, Start Sharing, and Stop sharing. Samsung’s Galaxy instructions describe More options → Share screen → Start now, followed by navigating to the app or file. Labels can differ by One UI and Meet versions. Zoom on Android
- Join the meeting and open the meeting controls.
- Tap Share or Share Content, then choose Screen.
- Read Android’s permission warning. Zoom also shows a sharing-status page or notification.
- Confirm the start action. If Android offers an app picker, choose a specific app; otherwise assume the broader screen is being shared.
- Use Zoom’s floating control or meeting controls to stop.

Microsoft Teams on Android
Open the meeting controls, select the sharing control, choose screen sharing, and accept Android’s capture permission. Stop from Teams or Android’s persistent sharing notification. Personal, business, school, and managed accounts can have different policies; an administrator may disable mobile capture. Microsoft lists screen sharing among Teams capabilities on its US comparison page.

What participants can—and cannot—see
In supported app-only mode, Android can keep system UI, notification banners, and navigation outside the shared output. Android 15 adds further notification protections and lets apps detect that their content is being captured. Apps can also mark windows as secure, producing a black, blank, or blocked result. These behaviors depend on Android version, manufacturer implementation, meeting app, and the app being shared; they are not a universal privacy guarantee. App-only mode does not hide private data inside the selected app. Participants may still see account names, profile photos, balances, order history, private chats, documents, images, or sensitive web pages that you open there. The meeting provider may store a recording if recording is enabled, and someone can film the display with another phone. Audio sharing is also app- and device-dependent.

Sharing the entire screen more safely
Use full-screen mode only for a deliberate multi-app demonstration, Android Settings, the home screen, notification controls, or split-screen behavior. Before starting, close sensitive apps, suppress notifications, and rehearse the route. During the demonstration, avoid opening password managers, banking apps, private chats, authenticator apps, or health and work records. Do not pull down the notification shade unless it is part of the lesson.
How to stop—and verify that capture ended
- Use Stop sharing in Meet, Zoom, or Teams.
- If the in-app button is missing, open Android’s persistent screen-sharing notification and use its stop action.
- End the meeting if you are uncertain.
- Close the app that initiated capture, then check that the sharing indicator or notification disappears.
- Restart the phone only as a last resort.
Android’s guidance describes stopping from the originating app, the notification shade, by closing the shared app, or by ending the call. See the Android Developers announcement. Why an app is missing or appears black
- Secure window or DRM: Banking, authentication, protected-video, and enterprise apps may intentionally block capture. There is no legitimate workaround for protected content.
- Unsupported software: The phone may lack Android 14 QPR2-era support, or the meeting app may not expose app selection.
- Work policy: A work profile or mobile-device-management rule may prohibit projection.
- Windowing limits: Some apps do not behave correctly with multi-window or projection.
Troubleshooting, in the right order
- Update Android and the meeting app.
- Restart the phone.
- Leave and rejoin the meeting.
- Ask the host whether participants are allowed to share.
- Test with a harmless notes app.
- If offered, test app-only and full-screen modes separately.
- Use the persistent Android sharing notification if the meeting button vanishes.
- If the app is being suspended, relax its battery restriction temporarily; this can reduce battery life.
- On a managed phone, test outside the work profile only if your organization permits it.
- Contact the meeting provider or phone maker if sharing is absent on a supported, updated build.
Which meeting app fits?

You do not need a paid accessory, capture card, VPN, or privacy app merely to share an Android screen. Choose the service your audience already uses, then choose the narrowest sharing mode that completes the task.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Choose app-only sharing by default. It limits unrelated Android UI, but it cannot hide sensitive information inside the selected app or prevent recordings by the meeting service or participants. Use full-screen sharing only for a planned multi-app demonstration, keep an eye on the active-sharing indicator, and stop before opening anything confidential.
