To manually uninstall one World of Warcraft add-on, close WoW and any add-on manager, open the correct client folder, and move that add-on’s folder out of InterfaceAddOns. Your add-on’s saved settings are stored separately in WTF, so remove those files only if you also want a clean reset.
Quick method
- Exit World of Warcraft completely.
- Close CurseForge, WoWUp, or another add-on manager.
- Open the active WoW installation from Battle.net: select World of Warcraft, click the gear beside Play, then choose Show in Explorer on Windows or Reveal in Finder on macOS. This is safer than guessing the installation path. See Blizzard’s folder and UI-reset guidance.
- Open the folder for the relevant game client, such as
_retail_,_classic_, or_classic_era_. - Open
InterfaceAddOns. - Move only the target add-on’s folder to a temporary backup location, such as your desktop. Do not delete the entire
AddOnsfolder. - Launch WoW and check the AddOns button on the character-selection screen.
Keeping the folder in the Recycle Bin, Trash, or a backup folder gives you an easy way to restore it if you removed the wrong package.
Find the correct WoW installation
WoW may be installed on another drive or in a custom Battle.net library. A common Windows path looks like this, but it is only an example:

/Applications/World of Warcraft/_retail_/Interface/AddOnsThe launcher method is preferable because it opens the installation currently associated with Battle.net. On Linux, the path depends on your Wine, Lutris, Bottles, or custom prefix setup. Locate the actual WoW directory used by that launcher, then follow the same structure:

<WoW installation>/<version>/Interface/AddOnsRetail, Classic, and Classic Era use separate folders
Each WoW client has its own add-on files and saved data. Removing an add-on from Retail does not remove its separate Classic or Classic Era installation.

If the add-on still appears after removal, verify that you changed the folder for the client you actually launched.
Identify the right add-on folder
The folder name is not always the same as the add-on’s store or display name. For example, an add-on might use a folder such as:

- Check the add-on’s download page or documentation for its installation folder name.
- Open the folder and inspect its
.tocfile, whose metadata commonly identifies the package. - Check whether the package installed several folders together. They may be modules or libraries rather than unrelated add-ons.
Do not delete every folder with a similar name automatically. A shared library may be used by multiple add-ons, and package layouts differ between add-ons and versions.
Choose what “uninstall” means
Disable the add-on
Unticking an add-on at the character-selection screen disables it for that client or character, but its files remain on disk. This is useful for temporary troubleshooting, not a full uninstall.
Remove the add-on but keep its settings
Move the add-on folder from InterfaceAddOns while leaving its WTF files alone. This preserves settings if you may reinstall the add-on later.

Remove the add-on and its settings
WoW add-ons generally use two separate storage areas:

Character-specific settings may also be under:
World of Warcraft<version>WTFAccount<AccountName><RealmName><CharacterName>SavedVariablesLook for files resembling the add-on’s internal name, such as:
AddonName.lua
AddonName.lua.bakCheck both the account-wide and character-specific SavedVariables folders. The filename may not exactly match the add-on’s visible name, and not every add-on stores all of its data in one file. If you want to preserve the configuration, copy these files to a backup rather than deleting them.

Do not delete the entire WTF folder for one add-on
Deleting or renaming the whole WTF folder is a broad UI reset, not the normal way to uninstall one add-on. It can remove or reset unrelated interface settings, keybindings, macros, chat configuration, and other saved preferences.
Likewise, deleting the entire Interface folder removes every installed add-on, not just one. If you need to troubleshoot widespread UI problems, use a backup-first reset instead.

- Check your add-on manager. Close it before manually removing files. If it manages a profile, remove the add-on from that profile or disable automatic installation and synchronization.
- Remember that uninstalling the manager is different. CurseForge states that removing the CurseForge application does not remove installed game content; the add-on folders can remain on disk. See CurseForge’s uninstall explanation.
- Check for another WoW installation. Use Battle.net’s Show in Explorer or Reveal in Finder option and inspect the active client folder.
- Check for modules. Some packages install several related folders. Removing only the main folder may leave a module behind, while removing a shared library may affect other add-ons.
- Check synchronization and backups. A manager profile, cloud service, copied interface profile, or backup utility may restore deleted files.
Leftover files in WTF do not necessarily mean the add-on is still installed. They are usually saved variables, not executable add-on files.

If the AddOns list or interface is still wrong
- Confirm WoW is fully closed before changing files.
- Verify that you edited the correct version folder.
- Make sure the add-on folder is directly inside
InterfaceAddOns, not nested one level too deeply, such asAddOnsAddonNameAddonName. - Remove the matching saved-variable files if you want a clean configuration reset.
- Relaunch WoW and check again.
If several add-ons are malfunctioning, temporarily move the entire Interface folder somewhere safe and start the game. This tests whether the problem is caused by add-on files without permanently deleting them.
For a broader reset, Blizzard’s procedure uses renamed backup folders rather than immediate deletion: close the game, rename Cache, Interface, and WTF, then launch WoW so it can create fresh folders. Keep the renamed originals until testing is complete. This resets much more than one add-on, so use it only when targeted removal does not solve the problem. See Blizzard’s UI-reset instructions.
Recovery checklist
- If you moved the wrong folder, close WoW and move it back to the same client’s
InterfaceAddOnsdirectory. - If the add-on loads with default settings after reinstalling, restore its backed-up
SavedVariablesfiles. - If unrelated settings disappeared, restore the backed-up
WTFfolder or the specific saved-variable files you moved. - Do not use
/reloadas a substitute for file removal. It reloads the current UI; it does not uninstall files from disk.
Optional Windows inspection command
No command line is required for a normal uninstall. If you only want to list Retail add-on folders in PowerShell, use:
