Make groovy lo-fi music by building a relaxed, slightly swung beat first, then adding a warm bass part and a short, mellow melody. Beat Shaper is a practical browser-based starting point: it generates editable drums, basslines, synths, loops, and arrangements, with controls for genre, mood, energy, and syncopation. Its entry lists MIDI clips and DAW export options, but does not confirm a dedicated lo-fi style or a particular swing control. Treat lo-fi as a prompt and editing direction, and check the tool’s current controls before relying on a specific sound.
What Gives Lo-Fi Its Groove?
For this tutorial, aim for a beat that feels steady but not rigid. Keep the kick and snare pattern simple, let a few percussion hits fall between the main beats, and leave space for bass and melody. A softer, less busy arrangement usually leaves room for the relaxed feel associated with lo-fi.
These are musical directions to try, not confirmed presets or genre guarantees from any tool. Listen to each generation and adjust the prompt or editable parts toward the feel you want.

Build A Lo-Fi Beat In Beat Shaper
- Open the browser workspace. Beat Shaper runs in a web browser rather than as a standalone desktop app. Start a new beat-making session and choose a slow, relaxed mood and low energy if those controls are available for the project.
- Set the style direction. In the genre control, try “lo-fi hip-hop” or “groovy lo-fi instrumental.” The directory confirms a genre control, but does not establish whether these exact labels are available or how the tool interprets them. If they are not selectable, use the closest available style or describe the feel in your own prompt.
- Generate a restrained drum part. Ask for a laid-back kick and snare with sparse percussion and a human-feeling groove. If the syncopation control is available, raise it modestly: the goal is a few offbeat accents, not a busy, restless beat. Beat Shaper lists syncopation as a control, but not a swing setting.
- Make room for bass. Generate or edit a bassline that follows the kick without filling every gap. Keep notes short and simple at first; if the result feels stiff, revise the prompt or piano-roll notes rather than adding more layers.
- Add one melodic layer. Try a mellow synth or short repeating loop, then lower its energy or density if it competes with the drums. The tool lists editable synths and loops, but its entry does not specify particular lo-fi instruments, effects, or sound libraries.
- Arrange and listen again. Use the arrangement controls to shape an instrumental section with a clear opening, a settled main groove, and a brief change before the groove returns. Listen on your phone speaker or headphones and check that the kick, snare, bass, and melody remain easy to distinguish.
- Export for the next step. Beat Shaper lists MIDI, WAV, MP3, stem, and DAW project export options. Its Starter downloads are limited to MP3 and non-commercial use; Ableton Live project export and real-time MIDI require Producer. Check the current plan details before choosing an export or using a track beyond personal listening.

Use these as starting directions, not guaranteed presets. Replace any wording the tool does not recognize with controls or edits that are available in your session.

The information here does not establish whether it offers a lo-fi preset, swing control, or particular sound palette, so check its current options before choosing it for those specifics.
