You can sign in to Discord on a desktop app or browser by scanning its login QR code with the Discord mobile app—but the phone must already be logged in to the account you want to use. Open the code on your computer, scan it from User Settings → Scan QR Code in Discord mobile, then approve the login on your phone.
Before you start
- Discord is installed on your iPhone or Android phone, and the correct account is already signed in.
- You have Discord’s desktop app open, or a browser pointed to discord.com/login.
- Both devices have an internet connection.
- Discord can use your phone’s camera when it asks for permission.
- The computer screen shows the entire QR code clearly at a useful size and brightness.
This method signs in to Discord on a computer. It is not the QR code used to configure an authenticator app, Xbox integration, or another third-party service, and it cannot recover an account when you are signed out everywhere.
How to log in to Discord with a QR code
- Open Discord on the computer. Launch the desktop app, or open https://discord.com/login in your browser.
- Leave the login screen visible. The page displays a QR code. If it says the code has expired, use the refresh control or reload the page to generate a new one.
- Open Discord on your phone. Check the account avatar and make sure it is the account you intend to use on the computer.
- Open User Settings. Tap your profile avatar, then choose User Settings. Discord’s interface can place the avatar at the bottom-left or bottom-right depending on the operating system and app version.
- Choose Scan QR Code. Allow camera access if iOS or Android asks for it.
- Scan the computer’s code. Keep the whole code inside the scanner frame until Discord recognizes it.
- Review the approval screen. Confirm that the login is for your own computer and that you initiated it. Tap Log in to approve, or Cancel if anything is unfamiliar.
- Wait for the session to finish. The desktop app or browser should open your usual account, servers, and messages.
Discord’s QR-login FAQ says a QR code is available for about two minutes. Treat every new code as single-use for the login attempt you just started.

Where is “Scan QR Code” in Discord mobile?
Open Discord, tap the profile/avatar button, enter User Settings, and look for Scan QR Code. Discord’s support pages show different avatar positions in different interface versions, so follow the label rather than relying on a fixed corner of the screen. If the option is missing, update Discord, fully close and reopen it, verify that you are signed in, and check the app’s camera permission in your phone settings.

QR code not working? Try these fixes
| Symptom | What to do |
|---|---|
| The code expired | Reload the desktop or browser login page and scan the newly generated code. Discord says codes last approximately two minutes. |
| The camera will not open | Allow camera access for Discord in iOS or Android settings, then reopen the app and select Scan QR Code again. |
| The scanner cannot read the code | Maximize the computer window, enlarge the page, raise screen brightness, clean the phone lens, and hold the phone steady with the whole code visible. |
| Scanning does nothing | Make sure Discord—not just the phone’s generic camera—is completing the flow. Update Discord on both devices, restart the apps, and try a fresh code. |
| No approval prompt appears | Check that the phone is online and signed in to the intended account. Look for Discord opening in the background, then refresh the computer login page and rescan if the prompt was dismissed or the code expired. |
| The login is rejected | Cancel, generate a new code, and confirm the correct mobile account. If it continues, use email/phone-and-password login and complete any security check Discord requests. |
| You are signed out on the phone | QR login cannot bypass this requirement. Sign in normally or use Discord’s account-recovery process first. |
| MFA blocks normal login | Use an authenticator-app code, configured SMS authentication, or a saved backup code. These options work only if they were set up and remain available. |
Discord’s current system-requirements guidance recommends keeping the desktop and mobile apps updated: check supported operating systems and versions.
Is Discord QR login safe?
The important safety question is who generated the code and whether you started the login. Generate the code yourself on your own Discord login screen. Never scan a code sent by a stranger, posted in a server, shown in a video, or supplied by someone claiming to be Discord support in a direct message. A QR code can lead to an account-login approval even when it looks harmless.

On the phone’s confirmation screen, verify that the computer is yours before tapping Log in. If you did not initiate the attempt, tap Cancel. If you approved an unauthorized code, change your Discord password promptly and review account security and multi-factor-authentication settings; Discord says changing the password can log devices out, although session termination can vary.
When QR login is not the right option
Use the standard form at discord.com/login when the mobile app is not already authenticated. Discord accepts the account email address or a phone number verified to that account, plus the password. With MFA enabled, Discord may then request a time-based authenticator code. Authenticator apps and one-use backup codes are described in Discord’s authenticator guide.

SMS authentication or backup codes are recovery alternatives only when configured in advance. If you are locked out of MFA and have neither a usable backup code nor another supported method, Discord says it cannot remove MFA or issue new backup codes; see its MFA recovery guidance.

In the desktop or browser client, open User Settings → Log Out. On a public or shared computer, also close the browser window and avoid saving credentials.
