Yes—you can join a FaceTime call from an Android phone, Android tablet, or Windows PC, but only through a FaceTime link created by someone using an iPhone, iPad, or Mac. Open the link in the latest version of Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge, enter your name, allow camera and microphone access, select Join, and wait for the Apple-device host to admit you. You do not need a FaceTime app or Apple Account for this browser-based process.
Android and Windows users cannot independently create official FaceTime links or join a FaceTime call without an invitation link. Apple’s current requirements are documented in its FaceTime support guide.
What you need
- An Android device or Windows computer.
- A FaceTime invitation link from an iPhone, iPad, or Mac user.
- The latest available version of Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge.
- A reliable Wi-Fi or cellular connection.
- A microphone for audio and a camera if you want to use video.
FaceTime’s browser experience uses WebRTC technology. Apple’s technical documentation lists a microphone as necessary and a camera for video calls. The guest does not need to sign in with an Apple Account.
How to join FaceTime from Android
- Open the message, email, or app containing the FaceTime link.
- Tap the link. If asked, open it in the latest version of Chrome.
- Enter the name you want other participants to see.
- Tap Continue.
- Allow Chrome to use your camera and microphone if prompted.
- Tap Join.
- Remain on the page while the Apple host approves your request.
- Tap Leave when you are finished.
Choosing Join does not necessarily enter you immediately. You normally wait in a holding state until the host lets you into the call.

How to join FaceTime from Windows
- Open the FaceTime link from your message or email.
- Use the latest version of Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge.
- Enter a display name.
- Select Continue.
- Allow the browser to access your camera and microphone.
- Select Join.
- Wait for the host to approve your request.
- Select Leave to exit.
Apple specifically lists the latest Chrome and Microsoft Edge for browser participation. If one does not work, try the other rather than relying on an in-app browser inside a messaging app.
What the iPhone, iPad, or Mac host must do
The Apple user must create and share the invitation. On an iPhone or iPad:
- Open FaceTime.
- Select Create Link.
- Optionally select Add Name to name the call.
- Share the link through Messages, Mail, or another app.
- Enter the call and remain available to approve guests.
Apple supports FaceTime link creation on an iPhone or iPad running iOS or iPadOS 15 or later, and on a Mac running macOS Monterey or later. Sending the link alone does not automatically admit the Android or Windows guest—the host must approve the join request.

- Mute and unmute the microphone.
- Turn the camera on or off.
- Switch between available front and rear cameras.
- Enter full-screen mode.
- View participants.
- Use grid view where supported in group calls.
- Leave the call.
However, web participants do not get full feature parity with Apple-device users. Apple says SharePlay and screen sharing are unavailable in FaceTime on the web. If the meeting depends on either feature, another cross-platform video service may be more suitable.
Fix FaceTime when the link will not work
The link opens an Apple support page
- Check that you received the complete FaceTime link, not a copied message or truncated preview.
- Copy the link and paste it directly into Chrome or Edge.
- Avoid opening it inside a messaging app’s embedded browser.
- Update Chrome or Edge.
- Ask the host to create and send a fresh link.
The Join button is missing or does nothing
Confirm that you entered a name and that the page finished loading. Then check your internet connection and verify that the host has not ended the call. A malformed or altered link can also prevent the session from starting. Reload the page or reopen the link in the other browser Apple lists.
The host cannot see your request
Make sure you actually selected Join and did not leave the waiting page. The host should remain in the FaceTime call and check for the approval request. If the request still does not appear, try this recovery sequence:
- Close or leave the guest page.
- Have the host leave and create a new FaceTime link.
- Open the new link in current Chrome or Edge.
- Verify that both sides have a stable internet connection.
These are practical recovery steps rather than guaranteed requirements. A disconnected host session, stale link, failed browser connection, or regional limitation can all interfere with admission.

No camera or microphone permission prompt appears
The permission may have been denied previously or blocked in Windows. Grant access only to the FaceTime webpage.
Chrome on Windows
- Open Chrome and select More (the three-dot menu).
- Go to Settings > Privacy and security > Site settings.
- Under Permissions, select Camera or Microphone.
- Find the FaceTime site and change its permission to Allow.

Edge on Windows
- Open the FaceTime page and select Allow when Edge requests camera or microphone access.
- If access was blocked, select Settings and more > Settings.
- Open Privacy, search, and services > Site Permissions > All sites.
- Find the FaceTime site and allow camera and microphone access.

Windows privacy settings
Open Start > Settings > Privacy, then review the camera and microphone permissions. Ensure browser or desktop-app access is enabled. Also close other applications that may be using the camera or microphone. Menu names can vary slightly by Windows edition and release.

The microphone works but the camera does not
- Remove any physical camera cover or open the privacy shutter.
- Close other video-call and camera applications.
- Check that the correct camera is selected.
- Refresh or reopen the FaceTime page after changing permissions.
- Restart the browser and rejoin the call.
- Restart the computer if another application still appears to control the camera.
There is echo, delay, or poor video
- Move to a stronger Wi-Fi or cellular connection.
- Use headphones to reduce echo.
- Stop downloads and streaming that consume bandwidth.
- Close other apps using the camera or microphone.
- Turn off your camera temporarily if the connection is struggling.
- Leave and rejoin the call.
- Try Chrome instead of Edge, or Edge instead of Chrome.
Apple recommends a strong Wi-Fi or cellular connection but does not specify a minimum internet speed in its cited support documentation.
The browser says it is unsupported
Update Chrome or Edge and retry. Apple’s public instructions specifically name those browsers. Do not assume that Safari, Firefox, Opera, or an embedded messaging-app browser will provide the same supported experience.
You are in mainland China
Apple identifies a specific regional limitation: FaceTime links are not supported in mainland China, and creating a link is not supported on iPhones purchased there. This is a geography and device-market limitation, not a general Android or Windows compatibility problem.

No. For the official browser-joining workflow, Android and Windows guests open the invitation link in Chrome or Edge, enter a name, and join without installing FaceTime or signing in with an Apple Account. Avoid unofficial apps claiming to be “FaceTime for Android” or “FaceTime for Windows.”
The name you enter is visible to participants, but it is not an Apple-verified identity. Grant camera and microphone access only to the FaceTime page and only when you intend to participate.
When another video service makes more sense
Use another service when participants need screen sharing from Android or Windows, SharePlay, recording, breakout rooms, advanced moderation, business administration, or a dedicated app with consistent features across platforms. FaceTime is a convenient option when an Apple user already has a link and the group needs a straightforward audio or video call.
