Short answer: AMD currently documents Minimal as an option inside the AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition installer, but it does not publish a universal, supported command-line switch that selects Minimal without the normal setup flow. Directly launching an extracted installer may work with some package versions, but the executable name, parameters, and required folder structure are not stable public interfaces.
For a reliable installation, use AMD’s documented path: open Additional Options, set Software Type to Minimal, then choose Accept & Install. If your real goal is an unattended deployment or a driver-only installation, the correct approach is different.
Minimal Install is not the same as Driver Only
AMD’s current installer separates the software into three choices:

Choose Minimal if you still want AMD Software’s basic control panel. Choose Driver Only if you want no Radeon control application at all. These definitions come from AMD’s installation documentation, although the exact screens and available features can vary by GPU, driver release, Windows version, and OEM configuration. The supported way to install Minimal
AMD’s current documentation, updated February 9, 2026, uses Adrenalin 26.1.1 as its example. The supported procedure is:
- Download the appropriate package from AMD’s driver download page.
- Run the downloaded package and allow it to unpack.
- Wait for the AMD Software Installer to complete compatibility detection.
- Accept the applicable license terms.
- Open Additional Options.
- Under Software Type, select Minimal.
- Keep the recommended installation directory, normally
C:Program FilesAMD, unless your deployment requires another location. - Decide whether to enable Factory Reset.
- Select Accept & Install.
- Expect the display to flicker briefly while the driver is installed, and restart if prompted.
Factory Reset removes previous AMD Software packages, temporarily pauses Windows Update, and removes the normal option to roll back to the previously installed driver. Do not enable it casually on a production machine or a system that is difficult to recover.
AMD’s current article lists Windows 11 version 21H2 and later and Windows 10 64-bit version 1809 and later, but support remains release- and product-specific. Installation also requires administrator rights. For notebooks, handhelds, and all-in-one systems, check the release notes and the manufacturer’s driver guidance before using AMD’s reference package.
What “without Setup.exe” can mean
The request can refer to three different objectives:

- Bypass the outer download: extract the package once and launch a file from the extracted directory.
- Hide the setup wizard: perform an unattended or silent installation with documented command-line options.
- Avoid AMD’s installer framework: install only the display-driver INF files using Windows tools.
These are not equivalent. Extracting the package may be possible for a particular release, but it does not prove that the internal executable is supported as a public interface. A silent installation requires valid parameters for that exact package. Installing an INF can provide a driver, but it does not reproduce AMD’s Minimal software installation.
Inspecting an extracted AMD package
AMD packages commonly unpack under C:AMD, although the location can differ. You can inspect the files without assuming that direct execution is supported:
- Run the AMD package once and wait for extraction to finish.
- If you are only investigating the files, cancel the graphical installer after extraction has completed.
- List executable files in the extracted tree:
dir /s /b C:AMD*.exeYou can also look for commonly encountered names:
dir /s /b C:AMDAMDSoftwareInstaller.exe
dir /s /b C:AMDSetup.exeBefore attempting an installation, run the help forms supported by the executable you found:

AMDSoftwareInstaller.exe -helpReplace the filename with the full path to the actual executable. Record the exact package version, executable path, help output, exit code, and any generated logs. Keep the extracted package’s complete directory structure, including its Packages directory if present; moving only the executable can break prerequisite checks or package discovery.

This is an investigation procedure, not a guaranteed AMD installation recipe. Internal names, parameters, working-directory requirements, and folder layouts can change between releases. Direct invocation may also skip compatibility checks, show weaker error messages, install the default software type, or fail because the executable expects to be launched by the outer bootstrapper.
What AMD documents for command-line installation
AMD publishes a separate command-line guide for Radeon Pro Software. It documents commands such as:
Setup.exe /?
Setup.exe /Help
Setup.exe -INSTALL
Setup.exe -INSTALL -USE C:packagedriver
Setup.exe -UNINSTALL ALLThese commands describe the Radeon Pro installer framework. They do not document a current consumer Adrenalin parameter such as -MINIMAL, /MINIMAL, or an equivalent switch. Therefore, Setup.exe -INSTALL must not be presented as proof that Adrenalin will select Minimal.
Likewise, commands such as the following should not be treated as universal solutions:

AMDSoftwareInstaller.exe -Minimal
AMDSoftwareInstaller.exe /MinimalUse a parameter only when the exact executable’s own help output or AMD documentation for that named package confirms it. A switch observed in an older release, a Radeon Pro package, or a forum post may not apply to Adrenalin 26.x.

If you need an unattended deployment
For a repeatable deployment, first identify the exact driver package, GPU family, Windows edition, and target hardware. Test the package on a representative machine, preserve the full extracted tree, and capture the installer’s exit code and logs. Do not build a production deployment around an undocumented Minimal switch.

A command that completes without displaying a wizard does not necessarily mean that Minimal was installed.

After deployment, verify both the installed AMD Software version and the display-driver version. Also confirm that the expected limited controls are present and that advanced tuning, recording, and capture features have not been installed if Minimal was the requirement.

Use Driver Only in the AMD installer when available, or use an appropriate Windows driver-deployment method for the display-driver package. Windows tools such as Device Manager and pnputil can install driver packages, but they do not install AMD’s Minimal user interface.
Manual INF installation is therefore closer to Driver Only, not an alternative way to select Minimal. It is suitable only when the system will be configured through Windows, games, or other tools and no AMD Software interface is required.

Troubleshooting failed installations
If the supported installer fails, use this recovery order:
- Close other applications and finish or restart any pending Windows Update operation.
- Confirm that the account has administrator rights.
- Temporarily check whether antivirus, endpoint security, firewall controls, remote-access software, or streaming software is interfering with setup, following your organization’s security policy.
- Uninstall AMD Software from Windows Installed apps.
- Restart and retry the correct AMD package.
- If remnants or conflicts remain, use AMD Cleanup Utility, reboot, and retry.
On laptops and handhelds, a failed reference-driver installation may indicate an OEM dependency rather than a Minimal-install problem. Manufacturer drivers may be required for switchable graphics, custom display modes, hotkeys, power profiles, or device-specific control panels.
Verification checklist
- AMD Software appears in Windows if you selected Minimal.
- The installed application and display-driver versions match the intended package.
- The interface contains basic controls but not the advanced tuning, recording, and capture features excluded by Minimal.
- Device Manager reports the expected display driver.
- No optional component, such as the AI Bundle on supported 26.1.1 systems, was installed unintentionally.
- The installation was tested on the same GPU, Windows version, and OEM platform used in deployment.
Bottom line
AMD supports Minimal as a choice in the Adrenalin installer, not as a publicly documented universal command-line mode. Use Additional Options > Software Type > Minimal when reliability matters. You may investigate and directly launch an extracted installer for a specific package, but do not assume that /Minimal, -Minimal, or the Radeon Pro -INSTALL syntax will select Minimal across current Adrenalin releases.
