To install an Envato Elementor Template Kit, keep its downloaded ZIP intact, install Elementor and the Template Kit Import plugin, then upload the ZIP at Tools > Template Kit. Import Global Kit Styles before individual templates. First check the item type: a classic Template Kit, an Elementor Website Template, and an Envato Full Site Kit use different import routes, and a Full Site Kit requires Elementor Pro.
What a WordPress Template Kit is—and what it is not
Envato defines a Template Kit as “a collection of pre-designed page layouts with starter content in a cohesive visual style, built for use with the Elementor page builder for WordPress.” In practical terms, it supplies Elementor design layouts and starter content; it is not a WordPress theme or a complete demo-content database. Envato’s Template Kit Import plugin handles Elementor Template Kits, not themes or HTML templates. See Envato’s definition and its importer troubleshooting guidance.
Before downloading, check the marketplace item’s product type. The steps below are for an item explicitly labeled Elementor Template Kit. A WordPress Theme, HTML Template, Site Template, or Full Site Kit may look similar in a marketplace listing but does not necessarily use the same importer.

Choose the correct installation route

For Website Templates, Elementor’s install dialog may offer to import Site Settings, including global colors, fonts, theme styles, layout, lightbox, and background settings. Follow Elementor’s Website Templates instructions. Envato describes its newer Full Site Kit format separately; use Envato’s Full Site Kit instructions for that route.

Install a classic Envato Elementor Template Kit
The steps below follow Envato Market’s current manual workflow for a classic Template Kit. The exact settings shown can vary with WordPress and Elementor versions, so check the kit listing’s plugin requirements as well.
- Download the right item. In your ThemeForest/Envato dashboard, download the kit labeled Elementor Template Kit. Keep the ZIP as downloaded: do not extract, rename, or repackage it before importing. Safari may automatically open downloaded files; Envato advises disabling “Open Safe Files after Downloading” if that changes the ZIP.
- Prepare WordPress. In the WordPress dashboard, go to Settings > Permalinks, select Post Name, and save. Install and activate the Hello Elementor theme.
- Install Elementor and check compatibility. Install and activate the Elementor plugin. For kits published after October 1, 2023, Envato says to confirm Flexbox Container is active under Elementor > Settings > Features. Review Elementor > System Info and the kit’s stated plugin requirements. If the listing requires Elementor Pro, install and connect Pro before importing.
- Install the importer. Go to Plugins > Add New, search for Envato, then install and activate Template Kit Import.
- Upload the original ZIP. Open Tools > Template Kit, choose Upload Template Kit ZIP File, and select the intact ZIP. If an orange banner appears, select Install Requirements and complete the requested setup.
- Import global styles first. Import Global Kit Styles before importing pages or other templates. These styles establish kit-wide colors, fonts, and site settings so page layouts can use them.
- Import the layouts you need. Import the kit’s pages, blocks, popups, or other templates individually. A kit provides layouts to add to your site; importing it does not automatically create a finished site with all pages and site settings in place.
- Insert a page template into a page. Go to Pages > Add New Page > Edit with Elementor. In the editor, open the Envato/folder icon, choose View Installed Kit, select a page or container, and insert it. Customize site parts such as headers and footers under Templates > Theme Builder.

Do you need Elementor Pro?
Not for every classic Template Kit: check the marketplace listing’s plugin requirements, and install Pro before importing if that kit requires it. A newer Envato Full Site Kit is different: Envato specifies that it requires Elementor Pro and should be imported through Elementor > Tools > Import, using the original downloaded file. A kit’s stated requirements—not the word “kit” alone—determine whether Pro is needed.

Fix common import problems
- “Invalid ZIP” or ZIP processing fails: Confirm the product is an Elementor Template Kit and upload the original downloaded ZIP. An extracted folder, altered archive, or different product type is not the expected kit file.
- The importer reports a PHP Zip extension error: Ask your hosting provider to enable the PHP Zip extension, then review server logs for related errors.
- The import times out or stops partway through: Check Elementor > System Info and your hosting limits. Envato’s troubleshooting page gives the following as guidance in its WordPress 6.2-era documentation, not as guaranteed requirements for every current host: PHP 8.1, at least 256 MB PHP memory, at least 1,000 max input vars (3,000 for WooCommerce), 128 MB post size, and a 64 MB upload limit. Ask your host to compare the active limits with the file size and server logs before retrying. See Envato’s troubleshooting guidance.
- Styles, images, or formatting are missing: Temporarily deactivate unrelated plugins, leaving Elementor (and Elementor Pro, if used) and the importer active. Run Install Requirements, then retry the import.
- The importer will not accept the item: Template Kit Import is not for WordPress themes, HTML templates, Bootstrap templates, or other non-Elementor products. Confirm the listing’s product type and switch to the installation route that product specifies.
If Envato Elements’ old plugin is still installed
Envato discontinued the Envato Elements WordPress plugin. New installations should use Template Kit Import and Envato’s manual upload guide instead. Removing the old plugin does not remove templates and pages that were already imported into WordPress. Read Envato’s discontinuation notice.
