Install the Microsoft Intune Company Portal app from the Microsoft Store on Windows 11 or from Google Play on Android, then sign in with your work or school account. Installation alone does not enroll a device or guarantee that work apps will appear. Windows users normally choose Set up your device and Connect; Android users follow the enrollment flow required for their ownership type. Remove device management before uninstalling Company Portal, especially on Android.

What Intune Company Portal does

Company Portal is the end-user app for securely accessing organization-provided applications, data, websites, Wi-Fi, VPN settings, and device-management actions. It is separate from the Intune admin center, which administrators use to configure policies and assignments.

The app is available for Windows, Android, iOS, and macOS. The Company Portal website provides browser-based access to some app and device actions, but it does not replace every function of the installed app.

On Android, do not assume every corporate-owned enrollment uses Company Portal. Personal devices and some work-profile scenarios use Company Portal, while certain corporate-owned, fully managed, dedicated, QR-code, NFC, token, or zero-touch enrollments use the Microsoft Intune app, often with Android Device Policy.

Installation, enrollment, and app installation are different

Action What it means
Install Company Portal Adds the end-user application to Windows or Android.
Enroll the device Registers the device with your organization and applies its management and compliance policies.
Install a work app Downloads an application that your organization assigned as Required or Available.
Uninstall Company Portal Removes the app itself; it does not necessarily remove device enrollment.
Remove, retire, or unenroll a device Ends management or access according to the organization’s policy. The exact result depends on ownership and enrollment type.

Before you begin

Windows 11 requirements

  • A Windows 11 device with internet access.
  • A work or school account and permission to enroll in Intune.
  • Microsoft Store access, unless your IT department deploys Company Portal through Intune.
  • An organizational license, enrollment restriction, and app assignment that permit your account or device to use Intune.
  • Local administrator rights are normally not required for a standard Store installation, although policy can restrict installation or enrollment.

Android requirements

  • A supported Android version and manufacturer configuration. Microsoft’s Company Portal enrollment guidance lists Android 8.0 and later and notes Samsung Knox Standard 2.4 and later; your organization may require a newer version.
  • A work or school account, internet access, and Google Play access unless an approved alternative is required.
  • Any security settings required by your organization, such as a screen lock, encryption, current security updates, or a work profile.
  • Knowledge of whether the phone is personal, corporate-owned with a work profile, fully managed, dedicated, or using legacy device-administrator enrollment.

Microsoft’s published support information, updated August 18, 2026, says Android Company Portal versions earlier than 5.0.5421.0 became unsupported on October 1, 2025. That is a support cutoff, not a statement that 5.0.5421.0 is the latest release; install the newest version offered by your approved store.

Install Company Portal on Windows 11

  1. Open Start and select Microsoft Store.
  2. Search for Intune Company Portal or Company Portal.
  3. Choose the Microsoft-published Company Portal app, then select Get or Install.
  4. Select Open when installation finishes.
  5. Sign in with your work or school account.
  6. If the app displays a setup prompt, continue with the enrollment steps below.

Microsoft’s installation guidance is in Get the Intune Company Portal app.

When IT deploys the Windows app

An administrator can deploy Company Portal from the Intune admin center: Apps > All apps > Create > Microsoft Store app (new). Search for Company Portal, select the Microsoft app, choose an appropriate install behavior, and assign it as Required or Available. Microsoft documents system/device-context deployment, including Windows Autopilot scenarios, in Add and assign the Windows Company Portal app. Assignment, group membership, device check-in, and the selected install context determine when it appears.

Enroll a Windows 11 device

  1. Open Company Portal and sign in.
  2. On Home, select Next or the device-setup prompt.
  3. Select Connect.
  4. Complete the Windows account, registration, and management prompts shown by your organization.
  5. Return to Company Portal after enrollment.
  6. If status is not updated, select Check status or Sync and allow time for the first policy check-in.

The labels and screens vary with Windows edition, Microsoft Entra configuration, enrollment restrictions, and whether the device is personal or corporate-owned. Microsoft’s Windows guidance covers Windows 11 in Enroll Windows devices in Intune.

Install Company Portal on Android

  1. Open Google Play Store.
  2. Search for Intune Company Portal.
  3. Confirm that Microsoft is the publisher.
  4. Select Install, then open the app.
  5. Sign in with your work or school account.
  6. Accept the terms and permissions requested by your organization.
  7. Follow the prompts to create a work profile, enable security settings, or complete another enrollment method.
  8. Return to Company Portal and check device compliance.

Google Play is the normal source. Microsoft also documents Amazon Appstore, Portal AppStore, supported Chinese marketplaces, and sideloading for specific situations in Get the Intune Company Portal app. A sideloaded package does not receive normal automatic updates or fixes, so it must be maintained manually and may be blocked by organizational policy.

Android enrollment: choose the correct app and method

Personal Android and some work-profile enrollments

These commonly use Company Portal. The app guides you through registration, work-profile creation, permissions, and compliance checks. Personal data remains separated from organizational data according to the configured work-profile policy.

Corporate-owned Android

Corporate-owned work-profile, fully managed, dedicated, and zero-touch deployments may use the Microsoft Intune app instead of Company Portal. NFC, QR code, token, and zero-touch setup can install that app automatically. Follow your IT department’s instructions rather than substituting Company Portal. Microsoft’s current flow is described in Enroll corporate device with Microsoft Intune app.

A company-owned device can be deliberately locked into management. End users generally cannot remove it from the Microsoft Intune app; contact IT instead of attempting to bypass management or factory-resetting the device.

Install work apps through Company Portal

Windows

  1. Open Company Portal.
  2. Select Apps, or choose a featured app on Home.
  3. Select the application and choose Install.
  4. Track progress under Downloads & updates.

Microsoft’s Windows app guidance lists states such as Available, Installing, Installed, and Install failed in Install work apps from Intune Company Portal for Windows. Required apps may install automatically. Available apps appear only when assigned to your user or device and allowed by platform, licensing, filters, and compliance policy.

Android

Use the Apps section in the approved Company Portal or Microsoft Intune app. Required applications may be pushed automatically; optional applications appear only when assigned. Company Portal is not a replacement for Google Play or Microsoft Store for personal applications.

Uninstall Company Portal from Windows 11

  1. Open Start > Settings.
  2. Select Apps > Installed apps.
  3. Search for Company Portal.
  4. Select the three-dot menu next to it and choose Uninstall.
  5. Confirm the removal.

This removes the Windows application, not necessarily the device’s Intune enrollment. If the device remains managed, Company Portal may be redeployed or protected work resources may continue to require enrollment.

Remove a work application from Company Portal

For supported Win32 and Microsoft Store applications, open Company Portal > Apps, select the app, and choose Uninstall. The option is not available for every application; some are required or configured without user removal.

Remove and uninstall Company Portal on Android

Remove a device managed through Company Portal

  1. Open Company Portal and sign in.
  2. Select Devices.
  3. Select the device.
  4. Open its menu and choose Remove Device.
  5. Confirm with OK.

Microsoft says this unenrolls the device, removes it from Company Portal, ends access to organizational apps and websites, and stops applicable management requirements. See Remove device from Intune Company Portal for Android.

Alternative removal path

  1. Open the Company Portal main menu.
  2. Select Remove Company Portal and confirm.
  3. After management is removed, uninstall the app from Android Settings or by holding its icon and selecting Uninstall.

Company Portal generally cannot be uninstalled while it still has device-management privileges.

Legacy device-administrator recovery

If normal removal fails, open Android Settings and find the device-administrator area. Depending on the manufacturer, it may be under Security > Additional Security Settings > Device Administrators or Security and privacy > Other security settings > Device admin apps. Disable or clear Company Portal as an administrator, follow the prompts to remove management or the work profile, and then uninstall the app. Menu names vary by Android version and manufacturer.

What removal changes

  • Company apps can disappear or stop working.
  • Corporate email, Wi-Fi, VPN, and internal websites may become unavailable.
  • Compliance restrictions stop applying when management is removed, but access controls may still deny sign-in.
  • The device can disappear from your Company Portal list.
  • Work-profile data may be deleted, depending on enrollment type.
  • On a company-owned device, removal may require IT approval or may be unavailable to the user.

Do not uninstall Company Portal as a first response to a noncompliance message. Protected resources may depend on registration and compliance evaluation.

Troubleshooting

The app is not in the store

  • Check that you are using the correct regional Microsoft Store or Google Play account.
  • On Windows, Microsoft Store components may be disabled by policy.
  • On Android, the device may lack Google Mobile Services and require an organization-approved alternate source.
  • Ask IT whether the device type, country, operating-system version, or ownership mode is excluded.

Sign-in fails or setup stops

  • Confirm that you selected the work or school account rather than a personal account.
  • Check date, time, internet access, and required multifactor authentication.
  • Read the specific enrollment restriction or Conditional Access message and contact IT if the account lacks permission.
  • If you accidentally declined terms of use on Android, follow the device-administrator removal path or reinstall and restart enrollment as directed by Microsoft.

The app opens but no work apps appear

  1. Verify the signed-in account.
  2. Confirm that the device appears under Devices and has completed enrollment.
  3. Select Sync or Check status.
  4. Restart Company Portal.
  5. Ask IT to verify app assignment, group membership, platform filters, licensing, compliance, and device check-in.

The device is noncompliant

Check the required screen lock, encryption, operating-system version, security patch, security software, work-profile state, and organization-specific rules. Removing the app can make access worse rather than fixing the underlying requirement.

Company Portal keeps reinstalling on Windows

The app may be assigned as Required, deployed in system context, or included in a Windows Autopilot configuration. IT must change the assignment or policy; local uninstalling will not override a required deployment.

Android has no Uninstall option

Company Portal is probably still the active device administrator or management app. Remove or retire the device first, disable administrator privileges or remove the work profile when prompted, then uninstall. If the device is corporate-owned, contact IT.

When to contact IT

  • Your account cannot enroll or is blocked by a license or restriction.
  • The required app or device does not appear after synchronization.
  • A company-owned Android device cannot be removed.
  • Removal could delete work-profile data or disconnect business services.
  • Company Portal was deployed as Required and immediately returns after uninstall.

For administrator planning, Microsoft’s Company Portal and Intune app configuration documentation covers self-service actions and policy settings.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does installing Company Portal enroll my device?

No. Installation adds the app. You must complete the organization’s enrollment flow, and your account, license, device type, and policy must allow enrollment.

Can I uninstall Company Portal without removing Intune management?

On Windows, you can remove the app while the device may remain enrolled. On Android, management or administrator privileges generally must be removed before the app can be uninstalled.

Which Android app should a corporate-owned phone use?

Some corporate-owned enrollment methods use the Microsoft Intune app rather than Company Portal. Follow the setup method supplied by your organization.
