To move a Google Doc into WordPress as editable post or page content, open a new item in the block editor, copy the content from Docs, and paste it into the editor. Then check the structure, handle images, and preview the page before publishing. You do not need a special import tool for ordinary text.
How to import Google Docs into WordPress
-
In WordPress, go to Posts > Add New or Pages > Add New. This opens the block editor, where content is assembled from blocks such as paragraphs, headings, images, and lists. WordPress.org Documentation describes it as “the new way of publishing content in WordPress.” Learn about the WordPress editor.
-
In Google Docs, select and copy the content you want to publish. Return to the WordPress editor and paste it into the content area. This is a direct copy-and-paste workflow, not an automated Google Docs import wizard.

Review the pasted content in the editor. Check headings, paragraphs, lists, links, and spacing; use the editor’s document outline or List View to navigate headings and blocks if needed. Make corrections in WordPress rather than assuming every formatting detail transferred as intended.

If the document contains images, paste them where they belong and check how they appear. When available, select an image and choose Upload to Media Library in its toolbar. A Media Library copy is safer than relying on the original image source remaining available or shared. WordPress explains how copied images from Google Docs may upload automatically.
-
Save the post or page as a draft, use the editor’s view or preview controls to inspect it on your site, and publish only when it looks right. The editor’s controls and rendered page can reveal issues that are not obvious while editing.
What to check after pasting
Headings, lists, and links
Confirm that headings have the right levels and that lists remain lists rather than turning into plain text or oddly spaced lines. Click through links to check their destinations. WordPress content is made from individual blocks, so inspect the structure as well as the visible text.

Check that each image appears in the right place and displays in the preview. If the editor offers Upload to Media Library, use it when you want the site to retain its own copy instead of depending on the original source.
Unexpected formatting or block warnings
If the editor or preview looks different from the document, inspect the rendered page first. WordPress notes that unexpected or invalid block content can arise when markup does not match the expected block structure, including from copied or manually added HTML, or when a theme or plugin interferes. That is a general troubleshooting explanation, not a claim that Google Docs pastes always create invalid blocks. See WordPress’s block editor documentation.
Optional cleanup for specific paste artifacts
If you encounter unnecessary markup, Tooltester Clean Paste for Google Docs is an optional plugin aimed at a narrow set of artifacts. Its WordPress.org listing says it removes certain <span style="font-weight: 400;"> wrappers, font-weight: 400 styling on list items, and aria-level list attributes when a post or page is saved. The listing says it leaves bold, italic, links, headings, images, and content inside <code> and <pre> unchanged, and that cleanup runs server-side in both the block and classic editors. It is not required for importing a document and is not a guarantee that every formatting problem will be fixed. Check the plugin listing for current details before installing; compatibility and maintenance information can change.

Should you use a DOCX file instead?
Downloading a Google Doc as a Word file and uploading that DOCX are not the same as importing its contents into editable WordPress blocks. WordPress’s File block provides a way to link downloadable files; it does not establish that a DOCX will be converted into a post with its formatting intact. The available documentation does not verify a built-in DOCX-to-editable-block workflow that preserves formatting. If you need the document to be downloadable, a file link may suit that purpose; if you need editable post content, paste the content and check it in the editor and preview. Do not assume headings, lists, images, or styling will convert intact through a DOCX route.
