To hide the Microsoft Edge Sidebar, open Settings and more (…) → Settings → Appearance, find the Sidebar controls, and turn off Show sidebar button or the equivalent option shown in your Edge version. If you mean the Copilot icon rather than the Sidebar, change Copilot’s toolbar setting separately. Edge’s labels and layout can vary, so search Settings for sidebar if you do not see the same path.
First identify what you want to hide
Edge has several related controls, and hiding one does not necessarily hide the others.
| What you see | What to change |
|---|---|
| A vertical panel with apps or shortcuts | Close the panel or turn off the Sidebar visibility control. |
| A toolbar icon that opens the Sidebar | Turn off Show sidebar button or its equivalent in Appearance settings. |
| A Copilot icon in the toolbar | Turn off Show Copilot button on the toolbar in Copilot’s settings, if available. |
| A sidebar or side pane enforced by work or school | Check edge://policy or ask the organization’s administrator. |
| Pinned Sidebar apps that have vanished | Microsoft is gradually retiring the Sidebar App Tower; this may not be a local browser fault. |
Microsoft describes the Sidebar App Tower and Copilot separately. Its support documentation says the traditional app list is being retired gradually, while Copilot is not affected by that specific retirement: Microsoft’s Sidebar update.

- In Edge, select Settings and more (…) in the upper-right corner.
- Select Settings, then open Appearance.
- Find the Sidebar or Copilot and sidebar section.
- Turn off Show sidebar button, Show sidebar, or the similarly worded visibility control available in your build.
If the setting is not where expected, use the search box in Edge Settings and enter sidebar. Microsoft is changing the Sidebar interface, so the label and location are not guaranteed to be identical across releases. This removes or hides the button for the applicable browser profile; it should not be treated as a permanent removal of every side-pane feature.

Remove the Copilot button separately
If the icon you want gone opens Copilot, hiding the Sidebar button may not remove it. Copilot has its own Edge toolbar control and can open in an Edge sidebar or side pane, as described in Microsoft’s Copilot in Edge guide.
- Open Settings and more (…) → Settings.
- Go to Appearance or Copilot and sidebar.
- Open the Copilot-specific settings.
- Turn off Show Copilot button on the toolbar, if that option is available.
Removing this Edge toolbar button does not disable Copilot across Microsoft products, and it may not remove other side-pane features. A work or school administrator can also control whether the option is available.

Close an open Sidebar without changing settings
If you only want the panel out of the way right now, select its X, collapse control, or Sidebar toggle if one is shown. If the panel is Copilot, close the Copilot pane instead. Closing an open panel is a temporary action: the toolbar button may still be available to open it again.
Disable the Sidebar on managed Windows devices
For an organization that needs to enforce the setting, Microsoft provides the Show Hubs Sidebar Group Policy. This is an administrative control for managed Windows deployments, not the usual fix for a personal browser.

- 【Rechargeable Wireless Mouse】: Equipped with a 500mAh lithium-ion battery, it charges in 2 hours for over 7 days of use and 30 days on standby. The mouse sleeps after 5 minutes of inactivity to save power and can be woken with any click.
- 【Colorful LED Breathing Light】: Features 7 colorful LED lights that change randomly, adding a fun atmosphere to your workspace.
- 【Portable Mouse】Compact size (4.4 x 2.3 x 1.1 inches) makes it easy to fit in your laptop bag. Lightweight and ergonomic, it's perfect for travel. Contact us anytime for support.
- 【Wide Compatibility】: Works with laptops, PCs, tablets, and smartphones across various operating systems, including Android, Windows, and Mac. Ideal for home, office, and travel.
- Open Group Policy Editor on the managed Windows device.
- Go to Administrative Templates → Microsoft Edge.
- Open Show Hubs Sidebar and set it to Disabled.
- Restart Edge. Depending on the organization’s setup, a policy refresh or Windows sign-out may also be needed.
The associated policy is HubsSidebarEnabled. Microsoft says disabling it blocks the Sidebar and its apps by default; in Edge versions with Discover, this can also remove access to Discover. The policy’s effect depends on how Group Policy is applied to users or devices, and the editor or policy templates may not be available in every Windows edition. See Microsoft’s Edge Sidebar policy documentation.
If the setting is missing, locked, or keeps returning
- Check policy: enter
edge://policyin the address bar and look for Sidebar-related policies, especiallyHubsSidebarEnabled. A managed setting may appear grayed out. Other policies or Edge interface changes can also affect the control, so a locked setting does not by itself prove this policy is responsible. - For a work or school browser: contact the organization’s IT administrator rather than trying to override its policy.
- Restart Edge: after changing a setting or policy, close and reopen Edge if the interface has not updated.
- Search Settings again after an update: Edge may rename or move Sidebar controls. Searching for sidebar is more reliable than depending on an old menu label.
- Avoid unofficial flags or registry edits: they are not the supported consumer route described by Microsoft’s documentation and may stop working or affect unrelated browser behavior.
In a Workspace or another special browsing context, an icon or pane can behave differently from the standard browser window; do not assume that one profile-level toggle will remove every icon in every Edge surface.

Restore the Sidebar button
- Open Settings → Appearance or Copilot and sidebar.
- Turn on the Sidebar visibility control or Show sidebar button.
- Restart Edge if the button does not reappear immediately.
If the control is unavailable, check edge://policy or contact the administrator for a managed browser.
Why Sidebar apps may have disappeared
Microsoft says it is gradually retiring the Sidebar app list, also called the App Tower: new apps can no longer be added, and existing pinned apps may be removed in a future Edge update. Microsoft has not given a confirmed final retirement date in its support article. Some services may remain accessible through their websites or other Edge controls. This change applies to the traditional app list; Microsoft says Copilot is not part of that specific retirement. The support page does not promise that removed pinned apps can be restored.

These consumer controls are in Edge Settings; the Group Policy instructions above are specifically for managed Windows deployments. On macOS and Linux, use the normal Settings route if the control is present, since the Windows policy procedure does not apply to those platforms.
