Open the video, select Share, choose Copy link, then paste the address where you want to use it. You can do this in the YouTube app or on a computer, and YouTube also offers a way to make the link start at a chosen time.
Get a YouTube video URL on a computer
- Open YouTube in a web browser and go to the video.
- Click Share below the player.
- Click Copy link.
- Paste the link into your message, email, document, or another app. Use Ctrl + V on Windows or Linux, or Command + V on a Mac.
YouTube’s computer sharing instructions also describe options such as sharing from a selected time. Button placement and labels can vary with browser, language, and YouTube’s interface.
If you cannot find Share
Copy the page address from your browser instead. Click the address bar—or press Ctrl + L on Windows or Linux, or Command + L on a Mac—then copy with Ctrl + C or Command + C. This copies the current page URL. It may include playlist or other parameters, so YouTube’s Share → Copy link option is usually the clearer choice.
Get the URL on Android
- Open the video in the YouTube app.
- Tap Share below the player.
- Tap Copy link.
- Open the app where you want to send or save it, then paste.

Get the URL on iPhone or iPad
- Open the video in the YouTube app.
- Tap Share below the player.
- Tap Copy link.
- Paste it into Messages, Mail, Notes, a browser, or another app.
YouTube documents this path in its iPhone and iPad sharing instructions. Depending on your device and app version, you may see an iOS sharing sheet; choose Copy or Copy link if offered.
Make the link start at a specific time
A timestamp link is useful when you want someone to begin at a particular moment. It does not trim or edit the video; it asks YouTube to start playback at that point. The viewer can generally continue watching the rest.

- Computer: Open Share, enable Start at, enter or select a time such as
2:30, then choose Copy link. - Android or iPhone/iPad: Move the video to the intended moment, tap Share, enable the Minute : Second option, then tap Copy link.
See YouTube’s sharing instructions for computer, Android, and iPhone and iPad. Playback at the selected time may vary in embedded players, other apps, or third-party services. If the exact moment matters, include the time in your message too.

Special cases
YouTube Shorts
Open the Short, select Share, then Copy link. The URL may look like https://www.youtube.com/shorts/VIDEO_ID. You can share it as YouTube provides it; you do not need to convert it to another format.

Unlisted videos
Open the video and use Share → Copy link. Anyone with an unlisted video’s link may be able to watch and reshare it, and unlisted videos generally do not appear in YouTube search results or on the channel’s public Videos tab. Treat the URL as access, not as a private or confidential message. See YouTube’s video privacy settings.
Private videos
Copying a private video’s URL does not make it viewable to everyone. The owner must grant access to the intended people through YouTube’s private-sharing controls; merely sending them the URL is not enough. YouTube explains the distinction in its privacy settings guidance.

Videos opened from a playlist
A copied link may include playlist information or a position in the playlist. It can still open the intended video, but may keep the viewer in the playlist context. For a straightforward individual-video link, open the video itself and use Share → Copy link. Avoid deleting URL parameters unless you know what they do.

A watch link is not the same as embed code. On a computer, open the video, select Share → Embed, copy the generated HTML, and paste it into your website’s HTML editor. YouTube also offers a privacy-enhanced embed option using youtube-nocookie.com. Age-restricted videos may not play on most third-party websites. See YouTube’s embed instructions.

Share a Clip rather than the full video
If Clips are available for the video, open or create the Clip, select Share clip, then Copy link. A Clip depends on the original video remaining available and viewable; it may become unavailable if the original is deleted, made private, or violates YouTube guidelines. See YouTube’s Clip guidance.

YouTube can provide different forms of link depending on the device, video type, and sharing method. Common examples include:
- Watch link:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIDEO_ID - Short link:
https://youtu.be/VIDEO_ID - Shorts link:
https://www.youtube.com/shorts/VIDEO_ID - Embed link:
https://www.youtube.com/embed/VIDEO_ID
For ordinary sharing, use the link copied from Share. You do not need to identify or edit the video ID yourself. An embed link is for placing a player on a website, not the usual choice for sending someone to the video page.

If the link does not work
- Check that the whole URL was copied. Copy it again using YouTube’s Share menu, then paste it into a browser address bar to test it.
- “Video unavailable” does not always mean the URL is wrong. The video may have been deleted, changed to private, restricted by age or region, or require sign-in. Re-copying the URL will not remove those restrictions.
- If a private video works for you but not the recipient, ask the owner to grant that person access. A URL alone is not permission.
- If the link starts at the wrong point, check whether it has a timestamp or playlist context. The destination app may also handle or remove URL parameters differently. Copy a fresh link from YouTube and include the intended time in your message.
- If the pasted address is very long, it may include playlist or other context. It can still work, but use the Share menu to get a cleaner link rather than deleting unfamiliar parameters.
- If Copy link is missing, open the video directly in the YouTube app or a full browser, try the browser address bar, or restart/update the app. If you cannot access the video, ask the sender for the link or access.
- If a URL is not clickable where you pasted it, the destination may not automatically turn it into a link. YouTube also disables clickable URLs in some locations, including Shorts comments and descriptions; this does not prevent copying the address. See YouTube’s guidance on sharing links with audiences.
