If your Galaxy Watch4 or newer runs Wear OS, Google Play Store should already be built in. If you own an original Galaxy Watch, Galaxy Watch3, Galaxy Watch Active or Galaxy Watch Active2, those Tizen-based watches cannot gain Google Play through a normal download or APK installation.
The key is identifying your watch’s operating system, then using the built-in Play Store—not Galaxy Wearable—to install compatible watch apps.
Which Samsung watches support Google Play?
Google Play Store is part of the Wear OS experience. Google supports watch-app installation on Wear OS 2 and newer, while Samsung’s Wear OS Galaxy Watch range begins with the Galaxy Watch4 family.

Samsung identifies the Galaxy Watch8 platform as Wear OS-based, so the same Play Store process applies. However, Samsung’s general support pages may lag behind the newest models and regional variants. If Play Store is missing on a Watch8 model, verify the exact model and region before troubleshooting.

You can check the model in Galaxy Wearable or in the watch’s settings. Galaxy Wearable handles pairing, updates and device management; it is not a replacement for the Play Store.
Google’s Wear OS Play Store instructions and Samsung’s compatibility guidance provide the current platform details.
Open Google Play directly on the watch
On a supported Galaxy Watch:
- Wake the watch.
- Press the Power/Home button or swipe up to open the apps screen.
- Tap Play Store.
- Search using the search icon, microphone or keyboard, or browse a category.
- Select the app and tap Install.
Menu names and gestures can differ slightly between One UI Watch versions. If you do not see Play Store in the first view, open the complete app list rather than looking only inside Galaxy Wearable.

The watch needs internet access through Wi-Fi, an LTE connection or the paired phone. LTE is not required: a Bluetooth model can install apps when connected to a phone or Wi-Fi.
Install Galaxy Watch apps from an Android phone
You can install a compatible watch app from the Google Play Store on your phone:

- Open Google Play Store on the phone.
- Search for the app.
- On the app page, look for Available on more devices, a device selector or a down arrow beside the install control.
- Select your Galaxy Watch.
- Tap Install.
Google and Samsung use slightly different labels across Play Store versions, so you may not see the exact words “Install on watch.” The watch must be associated with the relevant Google Account, and the developer must have published a Wear OS version of the app.
You can also browse categories such as Watch apps and Watch faces. On some watches, compatible apps already installed on your phone appear under Apps on your phone. They still need to be installed separately on the watch; phone apps do not automatically appear there.

Install an app from a computer
Google also supports remote installation from the web:
- Open the Wear OS section of Google Play on a computer.
- Search for or select an app.
- Choose Install or the app’s price.
- Under Choose a device, select your Galaxy Watch.
- Complete the installation or purchase.
If the watch is absent from the device picker, the app may not support Wear OS, may be unavailable in your country, or may not be associated with the same Google Account as the watch.

Requirements before installing apps
- A Galaxy Watch running Wear OS, not Tizen.
- A compatible Android phone for initial setup on most models.
- The current Galaxy Wearable app.
- Google Mobile Services on the phone.
- A Google Account signed in on the relevant devices.
- Wi-Fi, LTE or a working phone connection.
- Sufficient battery and watch storage.
- An app and account catalog available in your country.
Phone requirements vary by watch generation, model, carrier and region. Do not treat Samsung’s older general Android requirements as universal for current watches. For example, Samsung’s U.S. Watch8 product page specifies compatible Galaxy smartphones running Android 12 or later.

Samsung phones generally provide the broadest Galaxy ecosystem integration, but supported non-Samsung Android phones can also work. Google Mobile Services and model-specific compatibility still apply. Current Samsung Wear OS watches are not normal iPhone-compatible accessories.
What to do if Play Store is missing
If your watch is Tizen-based
There is no supported Play Store installation for the original Galaxy Watch, Galaxy Watch3, Galaxy Watch Active or Galaxy Watch Active2. These watches use Samsung’s older Galaxy Store ecosystem. Installing a Play Store APK will not convert Tizen into Wear OS.
If Google Play apps are essential, the practical choices are to use the apps available through Samsung’s existing ecosystem or replace the watch with a Wear OS model. Samsung’s Tizen watch-app distribution notice documents the move toward Wear OS for newer Galaxy Watches.
If your watch runs Wear OS
Try these checks in order:
- Finish pairing and Google Account setup in Galaxy Wearable.
- Confirm the watch has Wi-Fi, LTE or a working phone connection.
- Open the full watch apps screen and search for Play Store.
- Restart both the watch and phone.
- Update the watch software, Galaxy Wearable and Google Play services.
- Check that the intended Google Account is active.
- Check available watch storage.
- If the software offers the option, clear Play Store cache or app data.
- Only after recording account and backup details, consider removing and re-adding the Google Account.
- As a last resort, back up what is possible, reset the watch and pair it again.
Clearing data, removing an account and performing a factory reset can require sign-in, app reinstallation and watch reconfiguration. There is no single troubleshooting sequence that applies identically to every Galaxy Watch software version.

Why an app appears on your phone but not the watch
A normal Android phone app is not automatically a Wear OS app. The developer may have:
- Published no Wear OS version.
- Supported a different Wear OS version or hardware profile.
- Restricted the app because of the watch’s display, processor, sensors or input method.
- Limited availability in your country.
- Required a phone companion.
- Temporarily removed or delisted the watch version.
Wear OS apps can be standalone, meaning they work primarily on the watch, or companion apps that require a phone app or phone connection for some features. Some phone apps provide only notifications and have no watch application at all. Android’s Wear OS packaging documentation explains the standalone and companion distinction.
If the watch does not appear in Google Play’s install selector, that is usually a compatibility, region, account or connectivity signal—not proof that Play Store itself is broken.
Can you use Google Play with an iPhone?
Do not confuse limited general Wear OS documentation with Samsung’s model-specific setup rules. Samsung says the Galaxy Watch4 and Watch5 cannot be set up with an iPhone, and newer Samsung Wear OS watches are likewise not normal iOS-compatible devices.
An iPhone may be mentioned in some general Wear OS guidance for limited Wi-Fi situations, but that does not override Samsung’s compatibility restrictions for pairing a Galaxy Watch4-or-newer. For these watches, plan on using a compatible Android phone.

Should you sideload Google Play?
Sideloading an APK is not the same as installing the official Google Play platform. Phone APKs may be incompatible with a watch, require unavailable Google Play services, use unsuitable screen layouts, or depend on hardware the watch does not have. Split APK packages may not install as one file, and unsupported software can stop working after an update.
Random APK sites also create malware, privacy and account-security risks. Do not download a supposed “Play Store installer” to convert a Tizen watch. The supported solution is the built-in Play Store on a Wear OS watch.
If your current watch cannot run Google Play
If you need Google Play apps and own a Tizen model, upgrading to a Wear OS watch is the practical fix. Samsung’s current Wear OS range includes the Galaxy Watch7, Galaxy Watch Ultra, Galaxy Watch8 and Galaxy Watch8 Classic. A Pixel Watch is another Android Wear OS option, although it may not provide the same Samsung Health and Galaxy-device integration.

The bottom line
On a Wear OS Galaxy Watch, Google Play is already part of the watch software: open the app list, select Play Store and install compatible apps. You can also target the watch from Google Play on an Android phone or computer.
On a Tizen Galaxy Watch, there is no supported way to add Google Play. Check the operating system first, then troubleshoot pairing, internet access, Google Account, storage and app compatibility before considering a reset.
