A screenshot saved on your phone or computer does not have a URL other people can open. To share it, upload it to an image-hosting service or use a photo service’s sharing feature, then copy the right kind of link. Choose a hosted page link if you want people to see the post around the image; choose a direct image URL if the destination specifically requires the image file. Before sending either, check what someone with the link can access.
Choose the kind of screenshot link you need
There are two common things people mean by “a URL for a screenshot.” A share-page URL opens a page on the service that hosts the image. A direct image URL points to the image itself, rather than its surrounding post or album. They are not always interchangeable: a forum, form, or document may require a direct image address, while a message to a person may work better with a page that includes context and sharing controls.
- Use a share page when you want the recipient to land on the hosted post or album.
- Use a direct image link when the destination asks for an image URL or needs to display the image itself.
- Use a photo-library share link when the screenshot is already in a service such as Google Photos and you want to share it without separately uploading it elsewhere.
If a site rejects your link, check whether you copied the page address instead of the image address. Open the copied link in a browser to verify where it leads before you paste it into the final destination.
Get an image link with Imgur
Imgur provides separate ways to share a whole post and to copy the address of a specific image. The controls vary by platform. Its help pages cover uploading content, locating an image URL, and sharing posts and images.

On a desktop browser
- Open Imgur and click New post.
- Browse for the screenshot on your computer, or drag the file into the upload area.
- After it uploads, decide whether you need the post page or the image itself. To copy the image address, right-click the image and choose Copy image address. The exact menu wording can vary by browser.
- Paste the address into the message, forum, or document. Open it once to confirm that it points to the intended image.
If you want to share the whole post rather than the image file, use the post’s share control and copy its link. Do not assume the post URL and image URL are the same.
On mobile web
- Upload the screenshot to Imgur using the mobile site.
- Open the three-dot menu on the image or video itself and select Copy link.
- Paste the copied address where you want to share it and confirm it opens the intended item.
In the Imgur app
- Tap the + upload control and choose a screenshot from your device gallery.
- To share the post, use its share icon. To get a link for a particular image or GIF, long-press that item and choose the available copy-link option.
- Paste and check the link in the destination.
Imgur says uploads made in its mobile apps are hidden by default; users can choose public posting separately. “Hidden” should not be treated as a promise of confidential or guaranteed private access. If you upload while signed out, keep the link somewhere safe if you may need deletion support: Imgur says it cannot locate anonymous uploads without the direct link. Signed-in users can find uploads on the account’s Images page.
Make a Google Photos link for an existing screenshot
If the screenshot is already in Google Photos, you can create a sharing link rather than move it to another image host. Google’s steps are documented for Android and for creating links on a computer through its photo-sharing controls. Button labels and screen layouts may vary by device and app version, so look for the photo’s Share control.

On Android
- Open Google Photos and select the screenshot.
- Tap Share, then choose Create link.
- Copy or share the generated link, and check that it opens the correct photo or album.
On a computer
- Open Google Photos and select the photo or video you want to share.
- Choose Share and create a link using the sharing option shown.
- Copy the link and test it in a browser where you are not relying on the same open session, if practical.
A Google Photos shared-album link allows anyone who has the link to view the album. Google describes the URL as unguessable, but anyone who obtains it can pass it along. For access details and controls, see How shared album controls give your photos more privacy.
Check who can see the screenshot—and revoke access if needed
A share link is convenient, but it may reach beyond the person you first send it to. Check the service’s sharing settings before sharing anything that includes account details, private messages, addresses, payment information, medical details, or other sensitive content. If necessary, crop or redact the screenshot before uploading it.
For Google Photos, removing someone from an album does not by itself stop access for someone who still has the original link while link sharing remains on. Google says to remove collaborators and turn link sharing off to make the album private. If link sharing is turned off and then on again, the old link stops working because sharing is reset. Anyone who already viewed or saved a copy may still have that copy; revoking a link is not a way to retrieve an image already received.

For any service, distinguish “the link works” from “only my intended recipient can open it.” Test the link and review the service’s access settings; do not infer privacy from a link being difficult to guess or from an upload being described as hidden.

The link opens a post, but the form asks for an image URL
You likely copied the hosted page link. On desktop Imgur, right-click the image and choose Copy image address; in the mobile app, long-press the specific image and use its copy-link option. Try that address in the destination. A share-page address can be correct for a message while still being unsuitable where a direct image link is required.
The recipient cannot view the screenshot
Check that the upload or link creation completed, that you copied the current address, and that the service’s sharing settings allow the recipient to open it. For a Google Photos album, check whether link sharing is enabled. Also verify that you did not copy a link to a different image or post.

Imgur advises signed-out uploaders to retain their link if they may need help locating or deleting the upload later. If the direct link was not saved, the service says it cannot locate anonymous uploads without it. For future uploads, sign in and use the account’s Images page to find them.

The screenshot contains information you no longer want to share
Remove or replace the uploaded image if the service offers that control, and disable or reset link sharing where available. For Google Photos, turn off link sharing to stop the old link from working; simply removing a collaborator is not sufficient while link sharing remains enabled. Remember that recipients may already have viewed or saved a copy.
The destination does not display the image
Some destinations accept only direct image addresses, while others accept a hosted page link. Check the destination’s requirement, then copy the matching link type from the hosting service. If the screenshot is in an album, make sure you are sharing the intended individual image or the album, not a different page.
