To start a new PDF page in Syncfusion’s current Blink HTML-to-PDF route, apply a print CSS rule to the element that should begin the next page. A practical pattern is break-before: page with the older page-break-before: always fallback, either in the HTML stylesheet or injected through BlinkConverterSettings.Css. Syncfusion’s documentation confirms the CSS-injection mechanism, but the pages reviewed do not provide a Blink-specific forced-break example or guarantee for a particular declaration. Treat the rule as an implementation pattern and verify the generated PDF with the exact Syncfusion version, operating system and input you deploy.
Use a print break on the element that should start the next page
Give the target section a class, then define the break in print CSS:
<style>
@media print {
.new-page {
break-before: page;
page-break-before: always;
}
}
</style>
<section class="new-page">
<h2>Terms and conditions</h2>
<p>This section should begin on a fresh PDF page.</p>
</section>
break-before: page is the modern CSS fragmentation property. page-break-before: always is the legacy alias commonly retained for renderer compatibility. Put the class on the section, heading wrapper or other block that must move to the next page; placing it on an inline child can produce confusing results.

Inject the rule with BlinkConverterSettings.Css
If the HTML comes from a template that you cannot edit, inject the print rule before conversion. The following is a concise C# pattern; use the converter construction, license setup and document-saving code appropriate to your Syncfusion package and version.
#1 Best Overall

- HOME PRINTER DESIGNED FOR RELIABILITY — The Epson EcoTank ET-2800 All-in-One Supertank Color Printer creates vivid, detailed prints and documents thanks to Micro Piezo Heat-Free Technology; Fire off 10 ISO pages per minute1 to easily finish large jobs
var settings = new BlinkConverterSettings();
settings.Css = @"
@media print {
.new-page {
break-before: page;
page-break-before: always;
}
}
";
converter.ConverterSettings = settings;
// Convert your HTML with the configured converter, then save the PDF.
The documented feature here is the Css property on Blink settings. The exact break declaration above is a portable CSS implementation pattern, not a code sample or compatibility promise published in the reviewed Syncfusion pages. Open the resulting PDF and check the break after every engine or package upgrade.
A complete HTML-to-PDF example
This self-contained input demonstrates two deliberate breaks and avoids relying on external stylesheets. Supply it to your normal Blink conversion call, or inject the same CSS through the settings object.
<!doctype html>
<html>
<head>
<meta charset="utf-8">
<style>
@page { margin: 18mm; }
@media print {
.new-page {
break-before: page;
page-break-before: always;
}
.keep-with-next { break-after: avoid; }
}
</style>
</head>
<body>
<h1>Project report</h1>
<p>Executive summary content appears on the first page.</p>
<section class="new-page">
<h2>Implementation details</h2>
<p>This heading and section begin on a new page.</p>
</section>
<section class="new-page">
<h2>Appendix</h2>
<p>The appendix starts on another new page.</p>
</section>
</body>
</html>
When a break appears unexpectedly, inspect the block’s computed styles, parent layout and content height. A break can be visible but still leave a nearly empty preceding page if the previous block is too tall to fit.
Choose the correct Syncfusion rendering route
| Route or setting | Use it for | What to remember |
|---|---|---|
| Blink plus CSS | The standard current HTML renderer and deliberate CSS pagination. | Blink is Chromium-based. Custom CSS is supplied with BlinkConverterSettings.Css. The reviewed documentation does not guarantee a specific forced-break declaration, so validate the output. |
IE plus AutoDetectPageBreak |
Legacy Internet Explorer converter settings. | The API reference documents AutoDetectPageBreak with a default of true for IE settings. It is not a Blink setting and should not be added to BlinkConverterSettings. |
SinglePageLayout |
Rendering all HTML as one PDF page. | It is disabled by default and the resulting page is limited to 14,400 points. It creates one long page; it does not force conventional page breaks. |
| HTML-to-metafile plus PDF layout | A separate metafile rendering workflow. | PdfMetafileLayoutFormat.IsHTMLPageBreak belongs to that path. Do not copy it into a direct Blink conversion without confirming that your API and version use the metafile workflow. |
Prevent common pagination surprises
Keep headings with the content that follows
A forced break controls where a block starts, not whether its heading is separated from the following paragraph. Use print fragmentation rules such as break-after: avoid on a heading or a wrapper where the Blink version supports them, and test long headings that wrap to multiple lines.

Understand oversized blocks
If a table, image or code block is taller than the printable page, the renderer must split it or overflow it. A page-break rule cannot make an oversized, unbreakable element fit. Permit table-row and paragraph fragmentation where appropriate, or redesign the content into smaller blocks.
Use print media deliberately
Put pagination rules in @media print when the same HTML is also used in a browser. This prevents the forced break from changing the on-screen layout while allowing the converter’s print rendering to see it.
Resolve relative resources
The Blink guide documents HTML-string conversion with a base URL for resolving images, stylesheets and other resources. Set a correct base URL or use absolute, reachable resource URLs; a missing stylesheet can make it look as if the break rule was ignored.
Platform and runtime checklist
- Use the Blink package and settings for the route you intend to run; do not mix IE-only properties into Blink configuration.
- Match the Syncfusion PDF package and native Blink runtime to the target .NET deployment.
- For Linux Blink conversion, the guide states that
libgbm1is required starting with version 20.1.0.55. Confirm the current prerequisite list for your exact package and distribution. - Render with the same fonts, locale, viewport and resource permissions used in production. Font substitution changes line wrapping and therefore page positions.
- Save a representative PDF in automated tests and inspect page count, the first element on each intended page and any blank pages.
How to verify that a break really worked
- Include a visible marker in each section, such as its heading, so the intended first element is unambiguous.
- Convert the same HTML with the production Blink package and platform.
- Check that the marked section is the first content block on a new page, not merely lower on the previous page.
- Check the page before the break for orphaned headings, excessive white space, clipped images and split tables.
- Repeat the test with the longest realistic text, translated strings and missing optional images; pagination often changes when content wraps.
Troubleshooting ignored or incorrect page breaks
The section stays on the previous page
- Cause: The CSS was not loaded, was overridden, or was injected into the wrong converter settings object.
- Fix: Put the rule in the HTML temporarily, confirm it is inside a stylesheet, then set it through
BlinkConverterSettings.Css. Check that the converter is actually using Blink.
AutoDetectPageBreak is unavailable
- Cause: That property is documented for
IEConverterSettings, not Blink. - Fix: Use the CSS approach for Blink. Only use the IE property when you intentionally run the legacy IE converter.
The PDF has a blank page
- Cause: Two adjacent elements both force a break, or a preceding block consumes the printable area and the next forced break advances again.
- Fix: Apply the class only to true section starts, inspect neighboring margins, and remove duplicate breaks. Test with the actual page size and margins.
The break works on one machine but not another
- Cause: Different Syncfusion versions, native Blink runtimes, fonts, operating systems or resource availability alter layout.
- Fix: Pin package/runtime versions, install required platform dependencies, provide the same fonts and rerun PDF assertions in the deployment environment.
Images or styles disappear
- Cause: Relative URLs cannot be resolved, or the conversion process cannot access protected resources.
- Fix: Supply the documented base URL for HTML-string conversion, use reachable URLs or configure the converter’s resource access according to your application, then verify the computed layout again.
Everything is one very long page
- Cause:
SinglePageLayoutwas enabled. - Fix: Disable that option when you need normal pagination. It is intended for a single-page result and has a 14,400-point page-size limit.
Performance, reliability and maintenance
Pagination is layout work: large DOM trees, high-resolution images, web fonts and JavaScript can change where breaks land and increase conversion time. Keep templates deterministic, wait for required content before conversion, and avoid using a delay as the only synchronization method when a specific selector can signal readiness. Cache or pre-process stable assets where your application permits it, but do not cache a PDF whose source data is still changing.

For upgrades, compare PDFs produced by the old and new package/runtime with the same fixture set. Record the engine route, page size, margins, fonts and base URL alongside the test artifact. This makes a changed page count diagnosable instead of treating it as a random CSS failure.

If your requirement is a clean image or PDF of a live webpage rather than a PDF assembled from your own HTML template, ScreenshotNeo makes the capture a single API request. It accepts cookie and consent banners as a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups and chat widgets before capture; each step can be turned off. Bot checks and CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads and cache hits are not billed, and the response identifies the result with X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info and capture_pdf tools for Claude, Cursor and other MCP clients.

FAQ
Can I force a break before a heading instead of before its section?
Yes. Put the break class on the heading or, preferably, on a wrapper containing the heading and its opening content so the heading is not stranded at the bottom of the preceding page. Confirm the result with the generated PDF.
Does SinglePageLayout make page-break CSS unnecessary?
No. Single-page output intentionally removes normal pagination. Disable it when the deliverable must contain conventional PDF pages.

Should I use the IE converter for more predictable breaks?
Not solely for that reason. AutoDetectPageBreak is an IE setting, while Blink is the current Chromium-based route described by Syncfusion. Choose the engine required by your application and validate its output.
Why did a package update change page count without changing my HTML?
Renderer, font, native-runtime and platform changes can alter line wrapping and resource loading. Pin versions and compare representative PDFs after every upgrade.
