The clearest documented route is LineageOS 23.2, based on Android 16, for the OnePlus 13 codename dodge. Its official guide supports models CPH2649, CPH2653, CPH2655 and PJZ110. Android 15 builds are community options with separate firmware requirements and installation procedures; do not apply LineageOS commands to them. Unlocking the bootloader erases the phone, and mismatched firmware or an unsafe downgrade can leave it unbootable.
This walkthrough covers the official LineageOS path. If you choose another ROM, use that project’s current device-specific instructions from beginning to end.
Before you flash: confirm the model, firmware and risk
Check Settings → About device → Model and compare the exact model number with the ROM’s device page. The official LineageOS page for the OnePlus 13 lists CPH2649, CPH2653, CPH2655 and PJZ110; its device codename is dodge. A similar product name is not enough: do not use files for the OnePlus 13T, 13R, OnePlus 12 or any other device. Regional variants can differ in firmware, modem, carrier support and unlocking behavior. Check the supported models and current LineageOS release and read its installation guide before downloading anything.
Back up before unlocking. Bootloader unlocking triggers a factory reset, and formatting data during installation erases internal storage again. Copy photos and files to a computer, export anything your apps do not back up, and secure authenticator and two-factor recovery codes. Remove Google accounts before wiping to reduce the chance of Factory Reset Protection complications.

Bootloader unlocking permits unofficial images to be installed; it is not the same as rooting. It may affect device-integrity checks, banking and enterprise apps, DRM, or some streaming features. Android documents that fastboot flashing unlock requires on-device confirmation and resets user data. Read Android’s bootloader unlocking documentation. Do not relock after installing a custom ROM unless that ROM’s own device instructions explicitly say it supports relocking.
Take anti-rollback reports seriously
Do not assume Android 15 firmware is a safe downgrade from Android 16, or downgrade OxygenOS/ColorOS simply to match an old tutorial. A January 2026 report described a possible anti-rollback risk associated with ColorOS build 16.0.3.501 on Snapdragon 8 Elite OnePlus phones, including the OnePlus 13. The report did not establish that identical behavior affects every OxygenOS region or build. That uncertainty is not proof that downgrading is safe: check your exact region and build number against the ROM maintainer’s current warnings before proceeding. Read the report on the alleged anti-rollback risk.
Choose a ROM and method

The Android version of a ROM is not the same as the required stock vendor firmware. A ROM may require a particular Android 15 or 16 stock baseline even if its own Android version is different. Android 15 and 16 packages—and even two ROMs based on the same Android release—may use different partition images, recoveries, fastboot commands or Windows scripts. For GSIs, Google requires an unlocked bootloader, a Treble-compliant device launched with Android 9/API 28 or later, and an image that matches the device architecture. AVB and rollback considerations also apply; Google warns that a non-compliant device may become unbootable. Read Google’s GSI requirements and warnings.
Prepare the phone and computer
- Confirm your exact supported model and the ROM’s required stock firmware. Boot stock successfully first, and keep the complete build number and region noted.
- Before modifying anything, confirm calls, SMS, mobile data, Wi-Fi calling, VoLTE, cameras, fingerprint reader, NFC and Bluetooth work in stock OxygenOS. LineageOS specifically recommends checking calls and messages because some devices need VoLTE/VoWiFi provisioning before changing ROMs.
- Use a Windows, macOS or Linux computer, a reliable USB-C data cable and current Android SDK Platform Tools from Google. Platform Tools are free; avoid third-party “one-click” flashing or driver bundles.
- Charge the phone, download the ROM and every image from the project’s own device page, and verify provided hashes or signatures. Keep a copy of the stock restore package and the project’s recovery instructions on the computer.
With the phone connected in Android, verify the tools:
adb version
fastboot --versionIn OxygenOS, open Settings → About device and tap Build number repeatedly until Developer options are enabled. In Developer options, enable OEM unlocking and USB debugging; menu wording can vary by version and region. When you connect to the computer, approve its RSA debugging prompt.

fastboot devices
fastboot flashing unlockDo not continue unless fastboot devices shows the phone’s serial number. Confirm the unlock on the phone’s screen using the volume and power keys as prompted. The phone will erase itself and restart. Complete initial setup, then enable Developer options and USB debugging again before continuing.
If unlocking fails, check that OEM unlocking is enabled, stock Android has booted, the phone is in bootloader fastboot mode, and the model and region permit unlocking. A carrier or firmware restriction may also apply. There is no safe universal bypass; do not flash an unlock token or modified bootloader from an unverified source.

Install LineageOS 23.2 (Android 16)
The following is the LineageOS device-specific sequence, not a general recipe for other ROMs. Follow the live OnePlus 13 installation guide if its files, firmware requirement or instructions have changed. The guide warns that using the wrong firmware can cause failure, crashes or permanent damage.
1. Download the matching images
From the current LineageOS download page for dodge, obtain the build’s boot.img, dtbo.img, init_boot.img, vbmeta.img, vendor_boot.img and recovery.img, plus the LineageOS ROM ZIP. Use the files belonging to the same supported device build. Never substitute another model’s images, files from a different release, or another ROM’s partitions.
2. Flash the required partitions
With the phone in bootloader fastboot mode and the matching image files in your Platform Tools working directory, run:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash dtbo dtbo.img
fastboot flash init_boot init_boot.img
fastboot flash vbmeta vbmeta.img
fastboot flash vendor_boot vendor_boot.img
fastboot reboot bootloader3. Flash and enter Lineage Recovery
After the phone returns to the bootloader, flash the recovery image from the same LineageOS build:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.imgUse the bootloader menu to select Recovery. LineageOS recommends its supplied recovery; another recovery may not support installation or updates. If you do not see the LineageOS recovery, stop and check which image was flashed and how recovery was entered before proceeding.
4. Format data
In Lineage Recovery, select Factory Reset → Format data / factory reset and confirm. This is not just a cache wipe: it deletes internal storage and removes its encryption so the new system can use the data partition. Confirm your backup is complete before doing it.

In recovery, choose Apply update → Apply from ADB. On the computer, replace the example path with the actual ZIP location:
adb -d sideload /path/to/lineageos-rom.zipWait for recovery’s result. LineageOS documents that a successful sideload can appear to stop near 47% and that ADB may print messages such as adb: failed to read command: Success, No error or Undefined error: 0. Those messages can be harmless if recovery says installation completed successfully. Do not dismiss an actual failure shown on the recovery screen.
6. Install optional Google Apps before first boot
LineageOS does not include Google Apps. If you want them, use an ARM64 package explicitly compatible with this Android/LineageOS release, then sideload it in recovery immediately after the ROM and before the first system boot. Android 15 GApps are not automatically compatible with Android 16. If you want a Google-free setup, skip the add-on. Root is a separate procedure; do not mix it into the base installation unless the ROM documentation explicitly supports it.

7. Reboot and check the essentials
Select Reboot system now. The first boot can take several minutes; LineageOS says it normally takes no longer than about 15 minutes. After setup, test mobile service, calls and messages, cameras, fingerprint reader, NFC, Bluetooth, charging and apps that rely on Widevine or device-integrity checks. Do not assume every proprietary OxygenOS feature or camera behavior is reproduced.
Android 15 and other ROMs: use their own instructions
Community coverage has identified Android 15 options such as Nameless AOSP and SunOS, and a wider range of Android 16 projects. Their presence in a roundup does not prove a given build is still maintained, supports your exact model, or is safe for your current firmware. Before choosing one, locate the project’s current official OnePlus 13 page and confirm:
- The exact supported model number and device codename.
- The required stock firmware version, region and whether a downgrade is involved.
- Whether installation uses fastboot, fastbootd, recovery sideload, a hybrid sequence or a Windows
.batscript. - Which recovery and partition images are required, and whether data must be formatted.
- GApps compatibility, known bugs, maintenance status and the project’s supported return-to-stock or recovery route.
Do not combine commands from a LineageOS guide with another ROM’s package. Do not flash Android 15 over Android 16 firmware unless the ROM’s current device-specific instructions explicitly confirm that route is safe for your exact build. In particular, check anti-rollback warnings before any downgrade.
Troubleshooting and recovery
fastboot devices shows no serial number
Stop; do not run flashing commands. Verify the phone is in bootloader fastboot mode rather than Android or recovery, then try a known data-capable cable, another USB port or another computer. On Windows, check the device driver. On Linux or macOS, check USB permissions. Make sure you are running current Platform Tools from the expected directory.
The phone returns to stock recovery
The recovery may not have flashed, the phone may have rebooted to Android before entering the new recovery, the image may be wrong, or stock software may have overwritten it. Return to bootloader, confirm the image belongs to the exact device and ROM build, and repeat only the current project’s documented recovery steps.

Check the model, required stock firmware baseline, ROM release, all required partition images, recovery, data-format step and any required GApps timing. Confirm that no images from different projects were mixed and that you did not cross an anti-rollback boundary. Avoid repeatedly flashing random boot images or commands for another OnePlus model.
No cellular service
Possible causes include missing VoLTE/VoWiFi provisioning on stock, regional firmware mismatch, modem/vendor mismatch, a ROM bug or carrier/SIM compatibility. This is why testing calls and messages before flashing matters. If mobile service fails, follow the ROM maintainer’s device-specific troubleshooting rather than changing modem images at random.
Soft brick versus hard brick
If the phone still reaches fastboot or recovery, it is generally a soft-brick situation: use the ROM’s documented recovery route or the correct stock restore package you saved. There is no verified universal OnePlus 13 restore command sequence here, so do not improvise with MSM, EDL or third-party flash tools. If the phone cannot reach a usable bootloader or recovery, stop experimenting and contact OnePlus service or a qualified repair provider; recovery is not guaranteed.
Returning to stock
There is no safe universal stock-restore sequence to apply across OnePlus 13 regions and firmware builds. Use only a current OnePlus-supported or ROM-project-supported restore package and instructions that match your model, region and present firmware state. Confirm anti-rollback implications before downgrading. Do not assume that relocking the bootloader is part of restoring stock—or safe on a custom ROM.
